Good Afternoon and welcome to Manadon Sports Hub for today’s game against Chichester.

We come into the game on the back of two good performances against Keynsham and Hounslow, with the side coming away with six points and two clean sheets.

We have had a great start to 2022, with five wins from seven which has moved us outside the relegation zone with games in hand still.

We have a critical two weeks with games against today’s opponents Chichester and MK Dons to come, which will be crucial to the relegation battle.

The girls have come into the new year with a great attitude, determination and commitment, and they are finally getting their rewards on the pitch this season.

I feel we have had a good season up to now and have competed well in all our games this season, which is a huge step in the right direction for this club.

We continue to work hard on and off the pitch to move the club forward on and off the pitch.

We are really pleased with the squad and are pleased to announce that Jasmine Read has signed from Bridgwater to further strengthen the team.

Jasmine is a young goalkeeper with huge potential. She talks well and is a good shotstopper, and is one for the future.

Getting to know...

Lucy Hack #26 16-Year Old Lucy Hack made her debut for Argyle earlier this season in our 4-2 win against St Austell in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

Equally good with the ball at her feet, Hack looks likely to be one of the first names on the teamsheet for Argyle in the foreseeable future.

Since then, Lucy has been a near ever-present for Argyle in the heart of their defence. Having played in both a back three and a back four this season, Hack has developed an excellent partnership with fellow Central Defender Panagiota Papaioannou.

Lucy is another graduate from Argyle’s ADC, having moved from the U16 squad straight into the Argyle first team earlier this season.

Lucy Hack does not currently have a sponsor.

Despite being just 16 years of age, Lucy has shown experience beyond her years and has been a solid defensive addition to Argyle’s backline.

hounslow 0.2 Argyle Sunday 6th February 2022, 14:00 rectory meadow

Plymouth Argyle Women made back-to-back wins and finally moved out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 win against basement side Hounslow.

Argyle’s intent was clear from the first minute of the game; Cunningham tried a shot from range. Which Garrido in the Hounslow goal could only palm to Pollock, but her rebound shot drifted wide of the far post Argyle were seeing nearly all of the ball against their opponents who had yet to score a league goal this season and had another chance for the opener on 13 minutes.

Perrin played a short corner to Cunningham, who crossed into Giota at the near post. Giota won the header but got too much on the ball, and her header went narrowly over the Hounslow bar.

When Argyle did get their shots on target, Garrido was there to thwart their efforts. Cunningham, Ward and Knapman tested Garrido before Ward drew the save of the game from the Hounslow keeper.

Rose played a ball into Ward in space in the box, her shot had the power, but Garrido reacted brilliantly to reach out a hand and palm Ward’s shot wide.

Ward then turned provider for Knapman. After going on a brilliant run and beating several Hounslow players, Ward slid Knapman through, and she smashed the ball into the roof of the net. But the Argyle celebrations were cut short by the linesman’s flag, who disallowed the goal, having adjudged Knapman to be offside.

But Argyle did take the lead three minutes later. Ward got in behind Hounslow again and drew another save from Garrido, but this time the Hounslow keeper could only palm the ball to Jemma Rose, who slotted the rebound into the back of the net to give The Pilgrims the lead.

The second half continued as the first, with Argyle looking to double their lead.

Argyle were getting closer and eventually extended their lead in the 59th minute. Captain Zoe Cunningham played Knapman through on goal, and Knapman coolly knocked the ball around Garrido and finished into the empty Hounslow net.

Then with 10 minutes to go, Argyle introduced goalkeeper Jasmine Read in place of Poppy Soper for her Argyle debut.

Argyle saw the game out comfortably to make it back to back wins and finally move themselves outside of the relegation zone. With games in hand and more games to come against the teams around them, there’s still plenty of work to do, but it’s a big three points in the right direction for The Pilgrims.

Chichester & Selsey Ladies play in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.

Currently, Chichester & Selsey sit in 13th place in the league, having played 18 games. They now have a record of four wins, one draw and 13 defeats with a goal difference of -35.

Argyle and Chichester have faced each other twice this season, with Chichester winning on both occasions. The first game was a 3-1 defeat in the FAWNL Cup for Argyle when Tash Knapman’s equaliser was cut out by two late Chichester goals.

Then their last meeting in the league was a 2-1 defeat for Argyle, with Knapman once again on the scoresheet.

Chichester are currently five points behind Argyle, having played one game more than The Pilgrims.
