Welcome to Kimberley Stadium for our final home game of the season against Bridgwater United.

girls squads, and also those players who have transitioned into the Women’s Team and been great additions to the squad.

I want to thank all those who attended Sunday’s victory over Hounslow, as your support was greatly received. Sunday’s victory has all but confirmed our place in the Southern Premier division for another season, but 1 point from the final two games will confirm this.

Bridgwater have had an excellent season and sit 4th in the league, and they come into this game on the back of four wins from five. We know they are a physical side who work hard and have pace in attack. We need to make sure we prevent them from using this to their advantage.

It’s been a challenging season with a lot of ups and downs, and the credit goes to all the players and staff at this football club, who have continued to work hard and believe in what we are trying to build.

We still have a job to do ourselves and want to finish as high up the league as possible, and another three points tonight will help us continue on the right path.

We have worked hard behind the scenes to create a player pathway for all young players to aspire to play for the 1st team and this is thriving with multiple players receiving call ups to England squads and England School

I want to thank all the supporters for coming to games and getting behind the team, and we hope you have seen the progression of this squad throughout the season, with some exciting times to come, I’m sure.

Many Thanks, Ryan Perks - First Team Manager

Getting to know...

ruby murphy #19 Defender Ruby Murphy made her debut for Argyle as a substitute away to Ipswich Town earlier this season after impressing for Vicki Fannon’s U23 side before making the step up to the first team.

After making her debut as a substitute right back against Ipswich, Ruby made her first start at centre back against Crawley Wasps following an injury to regular centre back Lucy Hack.

Despite being just 16 years old, Ruby has impressed with her maturity and application since joining the club.

With Hack still injured, Murphy has retained her place in the team since then and kept her first clean sheet for the club in our 5-0 win against Hounslow.

A strong, aggressive defender, Ruby is also an excellent ball-playing centre back who is as comfortable in the tackle as she is bringing the ball out from the back and playing it to her teammates.

Ruby Murphy is sponsored by One Plymouth. Thank you for your support!

match report

Argyle 5.0 Hounslow Sunday 24th april 2022, 14:30 Manadon sports and community hub

Plymouth Argyle Women bounced back from last weekend’s 6-1 defeat to Southampton with a five-goal deficit win of their own after they hammered basement side Hounslow 5-0 to move themselves outside of the relegation zone. Argyle were boosted by the return of top goal scorer Natasha Knapman to the starting line-up against Hounslow, while manager Ryan Perks opted to start Gabi Alphous on the left-wing after she impressed as a substitute away to Southampton last weekend. It proved to be an inspired decision as, after just five minutes, it was Alphous who opened the scoring. A superb ball from the ball got the pacy Alphous clean through on goal, and she fired the ball beyond O’Hare in the Hounslow goal.

Argyle doubled their lead only a minute later through fortuitous circumstances. Zoe Cunningham fired a 40yard free-kick towards the Hounslow goal, it was straight at O’Hare, but the Hounslow keeper could only fumble the ball into the back of her own net to double The Pilgrim’s lead. Argyle added a third goal in the 29th minute. Alphous turned provider this time as she was played into space on the left-hand side. She picked her head up and whipped a brilliant cross into Knapman, who headed home her 15th goal of the season. As the first half neared its end Argyle got a 4th goal in the 41st minute. After winning the ball back, Argyle moved the ball from back to front, which culminated in Alphous being played through on goal again. She showed great strength to hold off a covering Hounslow defender before firing into the bottom left corner for her second goal of the afternoon just before half-time. Argyle started the second half in a similar fashion to the first and added a fifth goal only a minute into the restart. Lane picked up the ball on the edge of the box and fired into the back of the net beyond the outstretched O’Hare. Argyle nearly had a sixth in the 50th minute after Alphous cut the ball back to Pollock, but her snapshot from inside the penalty area went narrowly wide of the far post. The confidence was flowing through the Argyle side, which was epitomized by Natasha Knapman’s goal of the season attempt in the 53rd minute. A long ball dropped to Knapman 30 yards from goal, and she showed brilliant technique to volley the ball towards the Hounslow goal with it taking a superb fingertip save from O’Hare to touch the ball onto the bar to deny Knapman. Argyle were managing the game well and saw Lane and Rose both threaten the Hounslow goal from range with their shots narrowly going wide of O’Hare’s goal. Despite the Argyle pressure, they were unable to add a sixth goal against their already-relegated opposition, but they did see out the remainder of the game well to give goalkeeper Jasmine Read her first clean sheet for the club. It was a fantastic result for The Pilgrims that saw them escape the relegation zone and moved them above both Cardiff and MK Dons following Cardiff’s 2-1 defeat against Gillingham.
