MANAGERS NOTES

The girls have been excellent throughout the season and have continued to work hard to improve results on the pitch.

Welcome to Manadon Sports hub for this afternoon’s fixture against Hounslow in The FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division. I would like to thank those fans who have attended the last couple of fixtures away to Crawley and Southampton. It’s been a difficult last four games in terms of results against the teams at the top end of the table but what has been pleasing is the performances we have put in and how we have competed. We come into today’s game with confidence that we can continue our performances and turn them into points, which will help keep us in the league. Our target at the start of the season was to retain our status in the Women’s National League Southern Premier, and this was made

more difficult with four teams going down this year, but the target is still achievable and in our hands. The girls have been excellent throughout the season and have continued to work hard to improve results on the pitch. We need to stay focused on the last three games and continue to build on our current points tally, with a mid-table finish still achievable. Hounslow came here today having already been relegated, but their results in the second half of the season have improved, and they will be sure to make it a difficult game for us, and we will need to be at our best to get the result we need. I ask all our supporters to make as much noise as possible and get behind the girls.

Many Thanks, Ryan Perks - First Team Manager

Getting to know...

Charlotte Whitmore #6 Striker Charlotte Whitmore joined Argyle in April of this year after co-signing from cornish side St Austell. Whitmore had been in fine form before signing for The Pilgrims after she notched 29 goals in 18 games for St Austell, including a goal against Argyle in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup. Charlotte made her debut for Argyle in our away trip to Southampton last weekend. While she did not get on the scoresheet, she did impress upfront for Argyle utilising her pace and linking up well with fellow attackers

Amber Pollock and Beth Ireland. As we approach the end of the season, Charlotte will continue to be involved with St Austell as they look to win their league. But, she will also potentially be involved in some of Argyle’s final games ahead of joining up with The Pilgrims exclusively next season. Charlotte Whitmore is currently un-sponsored. Anyone interested in sponsoring Charlotte for this season or next should email womens@ pafc.co.uk to find out more.

match report

Southampton 6.1 argyle Sunday 17th april 2022, 14:00 snows stadium

lymouth Argyle Women fell to a heavy defeat away to champions-elect Southampton despite a performance full of character and endeavour from Ryan Perk’s young side. It was always going to be a tough afternoon away to the league leaders, but after weathering the early Southampton pressure, Argyle began to grow into the game, with debutant Whitmore impressing with her hold up play and combining well with pacy winger Amber Pollock. The pair nearly combined to great effect in the 23rd minute when Whitmore burst behind the Saints’ defence and cut the ball back to Pollock, whose shot on the spin cannoned off the inside of the post and away the rebound was cleared by a Southampton defender.

It would prove to be a decisive moment in the match as only three minutes later, Southampton took the lead. Argyle pushed forward but lost the ball in transition, and The Saints hit them on the counterattack. Pharoah slid Watling through on goal, and she finished into the bottom corner to give them the lead. Argyle looked to respond with a succession of corners, but it was Southampton who would get the next goal, doubling their lead in the 40th minute. Murphy played a short back pass to Read, which was intercepted by Pharoah, who fired in the Saints’ second goal. It was encouragement for the home side, who then added a third goal four minutes later. Kendall found herself free from a corner, and she planted her header into the back of the net for the third goal on the stroke of halftime. Southampton added a fourth in the 52nd minute. Freeland picked the ball up outside the Argyle box and arrowed a superb shot into the top left corner for the Saints’ fourth goal. Despite plenty of attacking endeavour from Argyle it was Southampton who scored the next goal in the 65th minute. A cross from the left-hand side found Kendall free in the box again, and she planted her header beyond Read for Southampton’s fifth goal. It would have been easy for Argyle to give in after the fifth goal, but they continued trying to get back into the game and found a consolation goal in the 68th minute. Southampton cleared the ball to Cunningham on the left-hand side, and she sent a stunning right-footed volley beyond Rendell and into the top right-hand corner. Argyle pushed on for more goals but with the clock ticking away, Southampton added a late sixth goal in added time. Rafferty found herself free from a corner and fired in Southampton’s final goal from close range to add more gloss to the scoreline before the final whistle.

NEXT UP vS Argyle vs Bridgwater United FA Women’s National league thursday 28th april 2022, 19:45pm Kimberly stadium

Queens Park Rangers Ladies FC was formed in May 2001 following the successful merger of two long running and well established women’s teams. The club spent four seasons in the top flight after a six year absence and was constantly working towards becoming an established Women’s Premier Club. At the end of the 2018/19 season Queens Park Rangers FC announced that they would be forming their own women’s teams run internally by the club. Following this decision the existing women’s club announced a rename and rebrand as Hounslow Women FC and would continue competing in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division as an independent entity.
