MANAGERS NOTES

To come away against the league leaders disappointed not to get anything, is a testament to the girls efforts.

Welcome to Manadon Sports Hub for this afternoon’s fixture against Crawley Wasps

however, the final product wasn’t there on this occasion as it was against MK Dons.

I would like to thank those fans who have attended the last couple of fixtures at home to MK Dons and those who travelled to Ipswich

We have six games remaining in the campaign, and we have a huge part to play in both ends of the table. With our destiny still in our own hands, we want to get back to winning ways today against Crawley.

I felt that some of our play against MK Dons and Ipswich was up there with the best we have played this season – and to come away last weekend against the league leaders disappointed not to get anything from the game is a testament to the girls and their efforts. It could have been easy after we went 2-0 down to give up, but our young group rallied and gave a great account of themselves, and this shows the strong mentality we have within the group and that we don’t give up. We had chances to get back into the game;

Crawley come into today’s game on the back of a difficult run of fixtures and will be looking to get back to winning ways, so we know it’s going to be tough, and we need to continue the high standards we have set over the last few months. Please get behind the team and make as much noise as possible. We hope you all enjoy the game.

Many Thanks, Ryan Perks - First Team Manager

Jasmine read #25 Goal Keeper Jasmine Read signed for Argyle from Bridgwater United just last month and made her debut as a substitute away to Hounslow in our 2-0 victory. Since then, Jasmine has been training with the team and became Argyle’s new number one goalkeeper after Poppy Soper completed her full-time move to Chelsea. Read made her first start for the greens away to Ipswich last weekend in our 2-0 defeat.

the league leaders. While there was nothing that could be done to stop the two Ipswich goals, Read put in an assured performance for Argyle. Commanding her area and defenders well while also making some good saves against the league leaders. Jasmine Read is currently un-sponsored. match report

Ipswich 2.0 argyle Sunday 27th march 2022, 14:00 The goldstar ground

Plymouth Argyle Women’s four game winning run was ended with a 2-0 defeat away to league leaders Ipswich Town despite a battling performance from The Pilgrims. Argyle handed a first start to new goalkeeper Jasmine Read who replaced Poppy Soper after her move to Chelsea. Ipswich were doing the early pressing, but Argyle’s young back four and goalkeeper were holding firm and keeping Ipswich from carving out clear opportunities despite their fast start to the game. But in the 15th minute, Ipswich carved out the best of the early opportunities. Boswell found space out on the right-hand side and crossed into Thomas, but the Ipswich striker couldn’t keep her header down, and her effort was comfortably over Jasmine Read’s bar.

However, a minute later, Read was forced into action. Ipswich had a free kick on the right-hand side, and Lafayette inventively tried to catch the Argyle keeper out, but Read showed good reactions to rise high and palm her shot over the bar. It was going to take a bit of invention to break down the Ipswich defence, and Lane nearly provided it in the 36th minute. The ball was played into Lane while under pressure in midfield, but she did superbly to spin and roulette beyond two Ipswich players before working the ball to Ireland on the right-hand side. But before she could find Knapman in the box, Ipswich got players back and snuffed out the danger Then just four minutes later, Ipswich took the lead. A long ball was played in behind Argyle’s right-hand side. The Pilgrims failed to clear their lines, and the ball fell to Hubbard, whose shot took a wicked deflection off of Lane, giving Read no chance as the ball squeezed into the bottom corner. It was enough to give Ipswich the lead at half-time. But just two minutes into the second half, they hit Argyle with a sucker punch to double their lead. Town worked the ball to King at the edge of the box, who drove at the Argyle defence and rifled her shot into the bottom corner for Ipswich’s second goal of the afternoon. It would have been easy for the Argyle heads to drop, but The Pilgrims reacted well to the setback and drew an excellent save from Quantrill just five minutes later. Cunningham dropped her shoulder and went on a trademark run towards the Ipswich goal before unleashing her shot from the edge of the box, which forced Quantrill to spring to her right-hand side and palm away the Argyle captain’s effort. Then Argyle drew another save from Quantrill. Giota’s long free-kick found Ward in space on the left, but the England U16 international’s shot was straight at Quantrill, who held her effort well. Cunningham then won a free kick on the edge of the Ipswich box, and while her shot was always dipping, it wouldn’t come down in time and fell narrowly over the Ipswich bar. The Pilgrims continued to attack the Ipswich backline, but the league leaders saw out the remainder of the game in resilient fashion despite the Argyle pressure as the game finished 2-0 to Ipswich.

Visitors Welcome Here is a brief description of our visitors, Crawley Wasps We hope you all enjoy the game today and have a safe journey home.

Crawley Wasps, founded in 1991. From its humble beginnings as a seven-a-side team in several Surrey competitions, the club now boasts over 150 female members ranging from Under-10s to senior squads. The 2018-19 season was unquestionably our most successful in the club’s history. The first team won the FA Women’s National League Division 1 South East (securing back-to-back promotions) and reached the League Cup final.

NEXT UP vS Crawley wasps vs Argyle FA Women’s National league Sunday 10th april 2022, 2.00pm camping world community stadium

Our first team then led the FA Women’s National League South for much of the following season, which was curtailed due to the Coronavirus pandemic, however, we did win the Sussex Women’s Challenge Cup for the first time, beating Chichester on penalties. In 2020 we began to put into place a new board of directors to increase our offfield operations, hoping to become a fully operational part-time club and win promotion to the FA Women’s Championship.
