Welcome to Home Park for today’s fixture against Ipswich Town. Firstly, I would like to thank those fans who travelled to St James’s Park a couple of weeks ago for our Devon Cup game against Exeter City.

been a very stop-start season so far and we have had a tough run of fixtures playing a lot of the top sides, so we are looking forward to having a run of fixtures in the coming months.

In our last outing I felt we put in a good performance and dominated large periods of the game but lacked the clinical edge in the final third. We created over 25 opportunities to create a goalscoring chance and, if it wasn’t for some excellent goalkeeping in the second half, the game would have been out of sight. To eventually lose the game on penalties was hard to take but we have reflected on the game and analyzed where we need to improve moving forward.

Ipswich have had a 100% winning start to the season and only conceded 3 goals, so we know it’s going to be a very difficult game, but we have prepared well and hopefully with the support of the crowd we can get a positive result.

We would have liked to have had the opportunity to bounce back straight away at home to Hounslow, but with Poppy Soper having another international call up our game was once again postponed. It has

We hope you enjoy today’s game and thank you for your support.

The girls are looking forward to the opportunity of playing at Home Park today and showcasing what we can do as a team and individuals.

Thanks, Ryan Perks - First Team Manager

Who she made her senior debut for in 2015

during a 1-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina. Having now made the move back to Plymouth, Jemma’s experience and quality from playing at a higher level, are clear for all to see. A leader at the back for Argyle and a resolute defender, Jemma is already one of the first names on the team sheet. Jemma scored her first goal for Argyle in the FAWNL Cup getting the 2nd goal in a 2-0 win over Exeter City and has looked a constant threat from set-pieces, as she continues her excellent start to her return to Plymouth Argyle.

match report

Exeter City Women 1.1 PAWFC Sunday 17th october 2021, 14:00 St James Park

Plymouth Argyle Women fell to a disappointing penalty loss against Exeter City women after a 1-1 draw in the Click Hub Women’s Premier Cup. Having already lost once to Argyle this season, it was right to expect a fast start from Exeter and buoyed on by a home crowd at St James Park, and the hosts did start well. It took a few smart stops from Soper to keep Argyle level in the game’s early stages. But as the match progressed, Argyle grew into the game, and in the 28th minute, Argyle took the lead. After a free-kick was given for handball 25 yards from the Exeter goal Zoe Cunningham stood up and fired a trademark free-kick off the underside of the City crossbar and into the back of the net. That goal was enough to give Argyle the lead going into half-time in what was an entertaining half for both sides.

Argyle had the better of the 2nd half and went close to extending their lead, with Knapman’s running in behind, causing plenty of problems for the City defence. But even when Argyle did work an opportunity, Abbi Bond in the City goal produced a string of stunning saves to prevent Argyle from extending their lead. Having failed to build on their one-goal advantaged Argyle were punished in the 73rd minute. After a loose ball was given away following an Argyle goal kick, City found Watkins free, and she fired into the bottom corner to level the score. In the 81st minute, Argyle nearly regained the lead, but once again, Bond did brilliantly to palm away a Knapman shot. Bond would then cement her player of the match display as with things level after regular time. We entered a penalty shootout. Bond produced two excellent saves in the shootout, and with City scoring all of their penalties, they won the shootout 4-3 and progressed into the next round of the cup. Founded as Ipswich Town Ladies in the mid 2000s, the club rebranded to Ipswich Town FC Women in 2018 after officially going under the umbrella of Ipswich Town FC. Since the rebrand, the Tractor Girls have been on an upward curve. They made history during the 2019/20 season by becoming the first fourth-tier side to reach the fifth-round of the Women’s FA Cup before being knocked out by eventual winners Manchester City. Following the disruption of the pandemic, Ipswich Town were finally promoted to the Southern Premier Division having led Division One South East prior to the two curtailed seasons. Since their promotion, Ipswich Town have made great progress. In addition to a strong start to the season, the Tractor Girls also signed 10 players to professional terms this summer for the first time in the club’s history.
