Welcome to the Manadon Sports Hub for today’s game and thanks to everyone for the wonderful support we have received.

It was obviously frustrating to lose 1-0 to Billericay last weekend but I would be more concerned if we weren’t creating chances. We need to be a bit more clinical because I thought we were the better team and we have shown again that we can compete at this level.

Sometimes in football, you don’t get the rub of the green.

We have made a new addition this week, with Georgia Wilson coming into the club. While she is only 20, Georgia has played in the WSL with Bristol City and professionally in Denmark. She can play anywhere across the

midfield and has been with us since the summer, having now recovered from injury.

Portsmouth are another good side in this league and, despite some results going against them recently, they are a team that will be aiming for the top three or four positions. We expect a tough game but we are excited by the challenge, and we have the happy memory of a 2-1 win over them at home last season.

A warm welcome to the Portsmouth staff, players and supporters to The Manadon Sports Hub today.

Enjoy the game, Ryan

Portsmouth Football Club Ladies was formed in 1987, at a time when women's football was in its infancy and consequently the only option was for the team to play in the Southern Region League.

The club entered the league in 1988 where they enjoyed 10 good seasons. During this period the club started introducing Youth teams to compete at a local level.

In 1998, ten years after the team first entered the English women's league system, Portsmouth F.C.

Ladies gained promotion into the South West Combination League and in the same season won the South West Combination League Cup.

Portsmouth F.C. Ladies became the first women's club in Hampshire to receive the F.A. Charter Standard Club Award for excellence in provision of coaching and support staff in 2002. After having finished runners up in the 2000/2001 and 2001/2002 seasons, in the 2002/2003 season Portsmouth demonstrated the impact of this excellence in

coaching as the team won the South West Combination League in a convincing manner, dropping only 2 points during the course of the entire season, to gain promotion into the Premier League Southern Division for the first time.

2012 was a famous year for the club, as they won promotion to the Premier League National Division but found themselves back in the Southern Premier after the reorganisation of the leagues in 2013-14.

Argyle Women suffered a frustrating loss at Manadon Sports Hub to Billericay Town as The Blues took all three points in the final stages of the second half.

The Pilgrims set the pace in the first half through multiple efforts on goal from distance, but it was Billericay who broke the deadlock through a Jay Blackie goal in the second half. Although Argyle continued to push for an equaliser and came close on numerous occasions, it was not enough to level the scoreline.

The Greens started the first half with a few strikes on goal from distance, with Blues ‘keeper Alex Baker spilling one of Kayley Lane's efforts early on. Full-back Sophie

Perrin would later set up striker Lily Greenslade for a one-on-one chance in the box, but Baker once again cleared the danger when called upon.

Lane and Greenslade combined for a chance shortly afterwards, with Lane winning the ball on the wing and finding the head of Greenslade just outside the six-yard box. However, the attempt looped over the bar.

Billericay got their best chance towards the end of the first half through a loose ball in the box. Beau Parker fired a shot towards the net, but defender Jemma Rose was in the right place to block.

Argyle continued to take the game to the visitors after the break, pressing

high and boxing the opposition into their half for the best part of the early stages. Greens gaffer Ryan Perks made a change following this period of the game, bringing Amber Pollock on for Charlotte Whitmore.

Shortly after the substitution, Billericay’s Holly Turner shot just over, before Baker denied Pollock form a one-on-one.

Billericay took the lead through a set-piece that found Blackie in the penalty area, and she converted to give Town an advantage they would not surrender.

Argyle pressed for their equaliser, but were frustrated in their efforts. Cunningham had a

penalty appeal turned down, Greenslade had a shot from a distance that the outstretched Baker tipped over the bar, and Pollock again got through one-on-one, and this time would beat the onrushing Baker to the ball, but the shot missed by inches, and with that, the game ended shortly after.

Argyle: 1 Jasmine Read, 2, Sophie Perrin, 23 Rosie McDonnell, 5 Panagiota Papaioannou, 4 Jemma Rose, 20 Beth Ireland, 8 Kayley Lane, 13 Katie Dickson, 10 Zoe Cunningham, 27 Lily Greenslade, 7 Charlotte Whitmore (10 Amber Pollock).
