Pavilion Theatre Autumn/Winter 2025 Brochure

Executive Director’s Farewell

This is my final programme (of 38) for Pavilion Theatre, a journey that began in July 2011 when I joined as Director.

From the outset, my ambition was to put Pavilion Theatre, Dún Laoghaire, firmly back on the map and see it regarded among the best theatres in Ireland. I believed the programme should drive the profile of the theatre, never any one individual. The goal was to try and secure and promote the best art, build large and loyal audiences, and thanks in large part to the vision and commitment of Ronan Fingleton, Pavilion’s Technical Director, nurture a space that could be enjoyed through to the next generation.

Pavilion Theatre has a long and rich history, and I’ve done my best to advocate for it. For the artists, producers, companies, and partners, by helping deliver strong, engaged audiences for their work; for the audiences, by ensuring a memorable and enjoyable experience; and for the staff, by fostering a positive culture and an inspiring place to work.

The most fulfilling aspect of this role, creatively, was the opportunity to programme across the genres, curating a vibrant offering that balanced artistic quality with broad appeal. I’ve often heard it said that Pavilion has “great audiences.” It certainly does — and I want to thank everyone who supports the theatre. Long may that continue to grow and thrive.

To all my colleagues, past and present — thank you. It’s always been a team effort, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together. I also want to acknowledge our volunteers and board members, who have so generously given their time. And a special thank you to Ned Sullivan and Enda Cunningham, for their consistent support, guidance, and encouragement over the years.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s (Killing Eve) Fleabag is a riproaring look at some sort of woman living her sort-of life. Following a box office record-breaking run in cinemas in 2019, this one-woman show filmed live at London’s Soho Theatre returns to the big screen. Fleabag may seem oversexed, emotionally unfiltered and self-obsessed, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Don’t miss the hilarious, award-winning play that inspired BBC’s hit TV series.

Susan O’Neill is a rare and compelling force in contemporary music — an artist who defies convention with a voice that can both soothe and sear. Equal parts balm and blowtorch, her performances strike a unique balance between raw emotional power and delicate nuance. Her music blends folk, soul, blues, and indie elements into something unmistakably her own— intimate yet expansive, classic yet fresh.

Susan’s star rose significantly following her acclaimed collaborative album In the Game with Mick Flannery. She has toured extensively and earned nominations for prestigious awards such as RTÉ Radio 1’s Best Female Folk Artist and the Choice Music Prize. In 2024, Susan released her much-anticipated solo album Now in a Minute, confirming her status as one of Ireland’s most vital musical voices. Whether on stage or on record, she invites listeners to lean in, feel deeply, and journey with her through soundscapes rich in emotion and honesty.

Pavilion Theatre presents a Turning Pirate production Ye Vagabonds (LIMITED TICKETS)

Sun 14 Dec, 8pm | €32 (+ booking fee)

Brothers Brían and Diarmuid Mac Gloinn grew up playing music together around their hometown of Carlow. After moving to Dublin in 2012, they quickly became a staple of the live music and session scene in Ireland, playing their own original songs as well as folk songs from Ireland, Scotland, England and America. They weave rich harmonies and timeless stories into songs that feel both traditional and new.

A chance meeting with Glen Hansard at Electric Picnic in 2015 led to a European tour support slot and their debut EP Rose & Briar. They went on to tour extensively, open for acts like Villagers, Lisa Hannigan and Roy Harper, and sell out shows across Europe. Their acclaimed self-titled debut album arrived in 2017, followed by The Hare’s Lament (2019), which won multiple BBC and RTÉ Folk Awards. A 2020 EP, I’m A Rover / The Bothy Boys, further cemented their status as one of Ireland’s most awarded folk groups.

Their latest album, Nine Waves (2025), recorded at Hellfire Studios with producer John ‘Spud’ Murphy, features collaborations with members of Crash Ensemble, Cormac Begley and Alain McFadden.
