MEET THE NEW MEMBERS OF OUR MAINTENANCE STAFF Francisco Cheves Amaya moved from El Salvador to Las Vegas in 1980. He quickly adjusted to his new environment where he gained a wealth of experience. He started at the Circus Circus Hotel & Casino as a bus boy and rapidly advanced to become a cook. For 35 years, he cooked in many other casinos on and off The Strip, including The Dunes, Bourbon Street and Sam's Town. “I am so proud I went to culinary school. I can cook everything including, Italian, Chinese, New Orleans style, whatever you want,” Francesco said. He left the casinos to join the Sunrise Hospital, and later, University Medical Center (UMC), as a cook and worked for the last 30 years until he retired. He met his wife, Maybelline, who hails from the Philippines, when she worked as a nurse at UMC. They have been married 40 years. It wasn't long after he retired, when Francesco decided to look for a part-time job close to home. Coincidentally, his longtime friend, Jose Vargas, who was already on our Maintenance Team, suggested he apply for a part-time position at Sun City Aliante… and the rest is history. “I was bored, when I had the opportunity to work part-time, three to five days a week sometimes, I accepted,” said Francisco. “I have only been working six months and I have a lot of friends. It is like having a family working here. I like to speak with the residents. I really feel-good working here.”
Nathaniel Griffin, also called Nate, moved to Las Vegas nine years ago from San Bernardino, California in search of new opportunities. After he graduated from San Bernardino High School, he attended San Bernadino College, where he studied 12 different trades including engineering, technology, automobile, janitorial and more. He had a career in janitorial maintenance for 24 years before he joined Sun City Aliante. “I am so glad I came here; I have been welcomed since day one,” said Nathaniel. “I like working with the staff and our residents. It is a very welcoming environment, just like being part of family. “ We were very lucky to get Nathaniel. “I had a job interview with ABM,” Nathaniel said. “Then Juan called me the day I was hired to start at ABM. He offered me the job with First Service. In the end, I chose to accept Juan's offer. I am so glad I picked Sun City Aliante. It is a great place to work and live.” Nathaniel said he is very glad he moved to Las Vegas for a lot of reasons. “I have enjoyed accomplishments in investing in property and teaching my siblings to be independent and work hard. It was a big change coming to Las Vegas versus California. Las Vegas is a great location for me. “ In his free time, he really enjoys being with family. “I am really a homebody, and I love it. My free time is spent with my grandchildren, nieces and nephews. I came from a family of 14 with seven boys and seven girls. I am happy that some of my family members have followed me to Las Vegas.”
