WHYSHOULD YOU VOTE?
Even if you went to a polling location and only voted for one person, it will be counted. By law your vote has to be counted. Your ballot cannot be skipped or ignored otherwise it is unconstitutional. Sometimes elections can come down to a small number of votes which greatly affects how your city, state, and nation are run. Your vote counts, vote!
Here some important ways voting directly affect you: It's Your Right. People have died defending this right. Don't take it for granted!
Not voting is giving up your voice. Elections are decided by the people who go out and vote. Take some time and learn about the measures and the candidates. If you don't vote, someone else will make the decision for you. Your power is in your vote.
The Amount of Money Allocated YourRegion. This money can be used for education, youth programs, healthcare, veterans, creating jobs, the environment, etc.
How Your Taxes Will Be Spent. Take an active role and find out if your candidate shares your views and will spend your money wisely.
YourHealthcare.Your vote grants the governor, legislators, and Congress the right to take action and pass or reject laws that will determine your access to health care.
Social Security.- Elected officials decide how much payroll tax is paid, your Medicare services and payments, cost of living increases, and benefit schedules for your Social Security pension.
Safety of YourNeighborhood.Elected officials and judges make day to day decisions on laws that will affect your community, law enforcement, crime prevention, traffic patterns, and where to build schools, parks, and recreational places.
Improving YourHighways.Take an active role deciding what highways are needed, what public transit to support and how the bill will be paid. Vote to elect people who will do something to fix the problems we face. An opportunity for change. Support the candidates and ballot measures that can help your community, state, and even the nation for the greater good. Make your voice heard in these elections.
Communities are made up of friends, loved ones, and neighbors. Some may not know how important voting is, while others don't have the privilege. Make the decision to vote for yourself and those around you. Make sure your voice is heard - vote!
NEIGHBORHOOD
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MONTHLY BULLETIN:
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
During the first quarter of 2022, we had three home break-ins. That may not sound like a lot, but even one is too many. There are a few things that we can do to make our homes and the Sun City Aliante community safer and hopefully crime free.
Let us start with our homes. A quality security door is a great start. You can find lesser quality, less expensive doors, but a better rated door is best. Alight duty door can be pried open with little effort.
Anoutdoorcamera systemis a very good deterrent. Be sure to purchase a camera with a doorbell that rings on your phone; so, you can talk to a person without opening the door. The advantage is you can speak directly to someone even if you are not at home.
A safety tip worth repeating is, if someone is at your door,
acknowledge that you are home. If that person is a burglar and thinks no one is home, they may try to break-in.
There are a few things that we, as good neighbors, should do to
protect ourhomes and ourcommunity.First, when leaving your home, check your surroundings. Look around… is there a person or persons sitting in a parked car or driving slowly and watching, waiting for someone to leave home? On your way out, as you leave your block, (you know your block better than anyone) you will know if something is not right. If something looks strange or out of place, drive back around the block and see if that car or person is now in front of your home.
Other things to be aware of are reports of someone or a group of people going around the community looking for open garage doors or cars parked on the street or driveway. In the early mornings, it has been reported that a group of four people have been checking the handles of cars parked outside. Even if your car is locked, please remember to never leave anything of value in your car and be sure to take your garage door opener in the house with you. The only time a garage door should be open is when you are in your car coming or going. An open garage door during the day or night is always an open target.
If your home or car has been broken into, please call the North Las Vegas Police Department and file a report. Also, please contact our Neighborhood Watch Coordinator, Jim Blossey and let him know what took place.
DATE Change: Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Sun City Aliante Home Safety and Health Expo originally scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2022, has been postponed until later date in the year.
For information regarding the Sun City Aliante Neighborhood Watch program, contact our Coordinator, Jim Blossey at jimandpatb@embarqmail.com or 775-530-5119.
Be safe: if you see something, say something! YourNeighborhood Watch Block Captains

Is yourvehicle a target fora catalytic convertertheft?
Is your vehicle a target for a catalytic converter theft? Although any vehicle can be a target for catalytic converter thieves, it seems high ground clearance vehicles are better prospects because of easier access. Vehicles such as pickup trucks, Jeeps, SUV's, RAV4's and similar vehicles are favorite targets.
Acatalytic converter is an exhaust emission device that converts toxic gases in the exhaust system for a cleaner exhaust. The converter is attached to the exhaust system and is about the size of a loaf of bread. Money is the main reason catalytic converters are stolen. They contain precious metals that are worth money when sold by the ounce. Thieves can get hundreds of dollars when they sell a stolen converter.
Since the theft of catalytic converters are random crimes of opportunity, homeowners can take the following action to deter this type of theft. You can mark the converter by etching the vehicle serial number on the unit, spray paint it with heat resistant bright spray paint, or attach locking cables or a bolted-on steel plate. According to the police, junk yards or scrap yards can be charged with possession of property for accepting painted catalytic converters.

When you are at home be aware if a vehicle pulls up to the curb near your parked vehicle. Thieves will quickly “case” the area; so, there are no witnesses. The actual theft only takes a about a minute as the thief goes under your vehicle and uses a battery-operated saw to cut the converter from your muffler system. If you park on your driveway, cameras and motion activated lights are good deterrents for this type of crime.
