Democratic Republic of Congo - Uganda - Kansas City Refugee Journey I fled the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2002, and lived in a refugee camp in Uganda for 15 years. In 2017, I moved to Kansas City with hopes to begin work and have a safe home for my family. With JVS' help, my life in America began to take shape. JVS helped me get my job with Ameristar Casino and create a home in Kansas City. After this great start, I was able to have my family join me and we were finally able to all be together. My daughter is going to school and is successful. I recently started working at JVS, and I love setting up apartments for new refugees and making sure they have everything they need for their family.
