Aash and Rita Rai I hope... to help the Bhutanese Community Garden be successful so my family and community can continue to grow food and spend time together.

Bhutan - Nepal - United States Refugee Journey In 1992, we left our home in Bhutan because of political changes. For 19 years, we lived in a refugee camp in Nepal and taught young people in our community while continuing to farm as we did in Bhutan. We arrived in Kansas City in 2011. JVS helped us move to our new home and find our first jobs in the United States. For three years, we grew food with JVS Global Gardens, and we learned so much. We are honored that we can help our community manage our own garden now. We are excited to have this responsibility, and to be able to combine everything we learned from JVS with our farming knowledge from Bhutan. Our son, our parents and our whole family can spend time together in the garden, and we can keep our customs and traditions alive.

JVS Impact We are so grateful to JVS for allowing us to use their land for the Bhutanese Community Garden. We trust JVS and are happy they trust us with this land.

Kansas City We have ties to the land we cultivated as part of Global Gardens. This land is part of us now.
