On Monday 25th July at the Patchway Community Engagement day, young people were given the opportunity to learn about drug and alcohol awareness from a service designed for young people
WWW.PATCHWAYTOWNCOUNCIL.GOV.UK
The young people also had a workshop run by the Street Doctors who focused on unconscious and bleeding patients These information sessions were arranged by Patchway’s new youth work provider, FACE In the afternoon, a community football match was played on The Jason Franklin 3G Facility at Scott Park between the young people and Avon and Somerset Police. Although no official score was kept, the match was a brilliant success for all involved
You may have seen Amelia's Squirrel Hotel and Doggy Station when walking through Patchway Amelia's dad explains how these came to be: The idea of creating something like this came along with my daughter being interested in animals, We have a dog and spent lots of time outdoors She loved watching squirrels and there is an old tree in Gorse Covert where people used to leave food for squirrels that is when I thought of the little something for them Amelia enjoys leaving nuts and seeds for her little friends It just makes our regular walks a bit more exciting and make it like a little adventures We made a Doggy Station and that is her favourite, she just loves changing water and seeing local dogs using it I just think its great fun for kids, there's a few squirrel houses around Patchway, including bug hotel and birds feeder so you could do a little trail around the neighbourhood. I think me and Amelia will keep building and who knows what will be our next project & PETS

Last Thursday (August 25th), I held my regular surgery for local residents I often hold these in community hubs across our area, most recently, this was held at my constituency office in Bradley Stoke where I met a number of residents who had requested a meeting with me to discuss their concerns and situations
The past month I have been busy with my role as Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party, chairing multiple events including a leadership husting and a debate with Jacob Rees Mogg, Mark Harper advocating for their respective favoured candidates It is a very exciting time in politics, and we have two great candidates for the leadership of our party and our country.
Please telephone me on 01454 617783 or email me at: jack lopresti mp@parliament uk if I can be of assistance or to book a surgery
As always, should you need my help with anything, my office is open from Monday to Friday between 9am and 6pm.
Emily Lane, Neighbourhood Constable says: Patchway Neighbourhood Team have had a very busy (and hot!) Summer this year
On the 22nd of August I was supporting local GP services by meeting the management team at Coniston Medical Practice who have exciting plans for capacity expansion and are prioritising Face to Face appointments as the future of GP care I will therefore advocate for their expansion so that they may provide even better care for people in the local area In Parliament I was very honoured to speak in the first Sir David Amess Summer Adjournment debate. Sir David always raised a large number of issues relating to his constituency In this debate, which has now been named after him, I emphasised the frustration surrounding the situation with the M49 junction I will continue to raise this issue at the level of national government and cited the improvements that would be made from its completion to air quality in the surrounding areas and villages as well as reducing traffic in these areas to maintain their rural character. I also championed the local aerospace and defence industry and the local levelling up bid for the restoration of a Grade II listed WW1 hanger at Filton Airfield, and I took the opportunity to champion the importance of our aerospace and defence industry during the week of the Farnborough air show.
WWW.PATCHWAYTOWNCOUNCIL.GOV.UK NEWS FROM YOUR MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT JACK LOPRESTI MP
A highlight for us has been the ‘Community Engagement Day’ in Patchway which was held on 25th July This was a multi agency event whereby representatives from the Police, which included us as the Neighbourhood Team and officers from our Child Exploitation Team, the Council Violence Reduction Team, Patchway Town Council, local charities, and Patchway Community School, engaged with members of the Community, asking questions about what was concerning residents in their local area, as well as providing reassurance This engagement has enabled us to hear your opinion on what matters, and so we can target our patrols and future engagement accordingly This was also a great opportunity for all these agencies to come together and meet face to face, some for the first time since Covid 19 restrictions have relaxed.
This engagement day finished with a friendly football match at Scott Park, which was kindly organised by Southern Brooks Youth Club Members from our Neighbourhood Team, including our Sergeant, took the opportunity to test our skills against a young and competitive side! We had a lot of fun, even if it was quite tiring!

In 2021 All trees growing on South Gloucestershire Council land within the ward of Patchway were surveyed At the time of this survey 130 Ash trees were showing signs of Ash Dieback. We also identified 221 potential planting sites for new tree assets. A second survey of all Ash trees and planting locations was conducted in 2022 to confirm the presence of Ash Dieback and the suitability for replacement planting.
PATCHWAY AND CRIBBS ASH DIEBACK AND CANOPY INCREASE PROJECT
You may already be aware of Ash dieback; it is a disease of Ash trees caused by a fungus called Hymenoscyphus fraxineus The disease causes leaf loss, crown dieback and bark lesions in affected trees, around 90% of Ash trees are expected to die as a result of infection. Ash dieback has now spread throughout the County and South Gloucestershire Council are in the process of surveying and mapping trees in their ownership currently infected with the disease. Using this data, a proactive management system has been adopted and the removal of affected trees will take place over the coming years In some instances, the removal of infected trees may generate enquiries from various stakeholder groups.
As a commitment to our declared climate emergency it is the intention of SGC to plant twice as many trees as we remove, this will result in increased canopy cover for future generations, and with it bring all the associated benefits
South Gloucestershire Council:
South Gloucestershire council have instructed Lawrence tree services to carry out the following works:
I am unable to give an accurate figure at this time as we will need to conduct service searches for underground utilities prior to planting We aim to plant 221 new trees Where possible we will plant in the same location, however each site has been individual assessed for suitability All new tree planting locations have been assessed to ensure that any new tree can grow onto its full mature potential without conflicting with persons or property, therefore removing the need for unnecessary, detrimental and expensive remedial works Where possible we will plant replacement trees within the ward where Ash trees have been removed If this is not possible due to a lack of suitable locations we will plant else were within South Gloucestershire.
The trees we are planting are heavy/extra heavy standards. This means the trees will have a positive impact from planting.

• 25th July 2022 31st October 2022 Remove all 130 infected Ash

STOKE LANE MAJOR MAINTENANCE WORKS 26
SEPTEMBER - 12 OCTOBER
The works will involve the planing off of the existing surface of the carriageway and the laying of a new surface. The work will start at 8.00pm and remain in place until approximately 6 00am weekday nights These works will create a significant amount of noise.
For the duration of the works, the road will be closed and all traffic will be diverted around the area whilst the closures are in place. We will make every effort to ensure that access to properties and amenities fronting the site and whose only access is from the closed road, is kept available and the disruption to local residents is kept to a minimum However, there may be periods of time when access to properties by vehicle will be unachievable, and for this, we apologise. Please note that adverse weather conditions or plant / delivery problems may affect these times and dates
See attached plan of site. Area of resurfacing shown in red.
Although alternative routes will be signposted whilst the works are in progress, it is possible that delays may occur on the surrounding network Please watch the local press for any further news, but you are advised to avoid the area if possible for the duration of the works South Gloucestershire Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by these essential works
From the 26 September 2022, the road will be subject to major resurfacing works.

Like many services we continue to see an increase in demand, currently this is around 22% higher than the same time last year This is largely from two aspects, patients whose mental wellbeing is suffering and those patients waiting for their hospital treatment Mendip Vale Fact File

Musical Memories are currently Closed
The cafe is open to anyone experiencing memory problems or living with dementia to come along with their carer. After I retired I did experience a period of loss and lack of purpose so I decided to look for some volunteering work that would interest me and help people in my community. I decided to volunteer for the memory cafe as some members of my family had dementia and I know how important it is for those people living with dementia and their carers to get back into their community and socialise I love my volunteer role it gives me a sense of giving back to my community and a real bonus is I have got to know so many people and work with a lovely team of volunteers to make the cafe a success We give six hours a month to running the cafe. Its such fun with our cafe members and we all enjoy the sessions and get to know those people so well and we learn by their feed back how important coming to the cafe twice a month is for them There are so many volunteer roles to choose from and you can give as much or as little as you wish to volunteering but you get so much back.
If you are interested in volunteering for the memory cafe, or one of the many local groups who are looking for volunteers please get in touch We would love to hear from you email volunteeringpfs@southernbrooks org uk or there is a drop in session at Patchway Library on the first and third Tuesday of the month from 1 3pm (term time only).
Come along we would love to meet you, if you can give a few hours a month it will help so many Sue I am the lead volunteer for our Free Patchway Memory Cafe which meets twice a month for people with Dementia and their carers, from 10 30 till 12 30 in St Chads Church Hall Rodway Road, Patchway.
