CASA ROJA Casa Roja es un proyecto cultivado por nosotros, Georgia Durán y Marcelo Vallecillo con la intención de explorar, apoyar y coleccionar arte contemporáneo emergente. Nos enfocamos principalmente en artistas regiomontanos y mexicanos o con alguna conexión a México. La intención es que este proyecto sea una obra viva que nos trascienda.

COLECCIÓN CASA ROJA La Colección se originó de manera formal en el 2016 y tiene tres propósitos. El primero es la exploración del arte contemporáneo para visualizar el zeitgeist de este momento y comprender nuestro lugar en él. El segundo propósito es el apoyo al arte emergente y artistas jóvenes mexicanos que consideramos la voz de nuestra generación. Finalmente hay un interés estético y en tener a nuestro alrededor objetos que generen inspiración.

artist OTHIANA ROFFIEL explores ‘‘the multiple ways of coming-to-be, and it is thus that, through the freedom provided by understanding the transitive nature of pictorial becoming, we can connect with that of our own becoming, and approach both as an infinite rehearsal.’’

Othiana Roffiel’s “Rehearsal of Becoming” art series, exhibited at Galería Karen Huber, marks a significant evolution in her creative journey. Departing from photographic references, she embraces memory, imagination, and the subconscious, delving into a highly corporeal intuition. Her paintings depict fluid and transitional scenarios reflecting the changes of time and the metamorphosis of bodies, drawing inspiration from the body-nature relationship explored by artists like Georgia O’Keeffe. Roffiel’s pieces go beyond constituting landscapes, framing and reconfiguring ecosystems in tandem with the bodies they inhabit. Navigating the paradox of agency, her visual language explores the recombination of motifs, ranging from abstract to figurative elements, influenced by diverse contexts. The contemplative sensation generated by her work emanates from a bodily awareness rooted in a deep connection with nature and the subconscious, resulting in paintings that are not only mystical but also light and playful. While the pieces may be perceived as finished, they maintain an openness to experimentation, allowing viewers to engage in an infinite rehearsal of their own becoming through Roffiel’s transitive and transformative pictorial exploration. Interior and exterior concerns are visible in the artist’s production, alongside the pictorial work itself, containing apparently opposite elements on its surface, such as brightness and opacity, texture and flatness, sharing the same terrain and interest.

MANUELA GARCIA is interested in

the relationship between bodies in space, a concept also related to philosophical issues linked to human conditions and how these relationships imply an experience of dwelling.

In her sculptural practice, the artist explores the tension and structure of ‘‘Circuitos’’, where the thread’s tension supports each angle, marked by nails outlining the perimeter. The air between the components provides the necessary strength for each point to support itself, and four copper elbows guide and determine the circuit’s directions, creating electricity with a glance. Meanwhile, her series of ‘‘Lineas’’ comprises metal sculptures woven with felted wool, light and possible due to the surrounding air. These sculptures engage in a dialogue with the material characteristics of our environment. The artist’s work, reminiscent of Gego’s wire sculptures, presents a view of space through curved loops and spirals, challenging the conventional 90-degree angle geometry.

Combining steel and wool, she weaves threads over the steel, utilizing specitif colors to symbolize graphite, drawing, earth, vitality, and death. García’s sculptures, with their curved and arched aspects, signify the transformative and unstable nature of materials.

nantly narrative... ‘‘como un diario en el cual registro algo de lo que pienso y siento día con día.’’

Miguel Gonzalez engages primarily in narrative work, increasingly viewed as a diary where he records thoughts and feelings on a daily basis. The content and themes vary along with his evolving thoughts and the changing world over time.

In terms of form, he tends towards the frenetic, abrupt, flat, raw, cartoonish, embracing error as success, crooked lines, ugly drawings, sensation over reason, and impulse. While he acknowledges that these preferences are temporary, subject to change, he hopes for a complete transformation tomorrow.

Lucía Vidales’ work is concerned, above all, with painting. The body is recurrent as figure, as the painted gaze, and as the painting itself. Fragmented limbs often seem to emerge from, or sink into, the luminous or shadowy depths of her painterly surfaces. For Vidales, painting can transform time, our relationship with matter, and how we experience our own bodies. She is interested in a liminal and polyvalent use of color, and a fluid relationship with drawing — as evidenced by the layered remains of decision after decision, which are by turns sedimented in the work’s material surface, or invisibly erased, or still pending. Vidales’s work is informed by the consequences of historical and colonial imaginaries as they continue to impact actual bodies and the body of painting itself. The beings that populate her paintings suggest the potential for confrontation, but seldom follow through. Instead they play with humor or anxiety, or seek consolation from ancient wounds.

Ruth Aragón’s artistic production has always been tied to a curiosity for working with different materials and understanding new production processes.

This exploration has gifted her new languages, ways of thinking, doing, and resolving, which are not only applied formally but also become part of the questions she has about herself and her environment. Growing up in Monterrey, Mexico, a city that values industry over its mountains, economic growth over the artistic, industrially made over handmade, and hard, polished, and cold materials over the soft, imperfect, and feminine, she confronts a context that doesn’t allow these qualities to flourish. Her interest in creating from textures and volumes, rooted in an imaginary of nature, is also a way to counteract and pause the screen culture. With soft materials like textiles and time-consuming processes such as building ceramic pieces, she has found a gentle and stubborn response to a harsh and dense environment.
