This digital art exhibition creates a unique space for dialogue to honor Latin American artistry, celebrating its diverse cultures and transformative potential. Just as contemporary artists explore and reinterpret history and emotions in new ways, our exhibition challenges conventions and offers fresh perspectives.

If, on the one hand, we have a formal rapprochement between García Cruz and

the constructivist heritage, on the other hand, we have an attempted rupture that occurs in the very structure of the work. This collapse that occurs within the object is most evident in this glitched works - the paintings and sculptures are always on the verge of separating, multiplying elsewhere, seeking a life of their own by fragmenting their body-structure into contextual space. Historically, we can relate this act of rupture with a reflection on the project of modernity and its collapse in Latin American contexts, as well as on our current moment of global changes where we feel disoriented and anxious about what is about to happen.

García Cruz considers this production as an attempt to disorient the viewer’s perception in relation to the plane of the work and produce an effect of noise, like a temporary error or a “glitch”, an appropriate term used by the artist in the computer context and a reference to the title of the current exhibition. Repetition, movement, transformation, the limits between interior and exterior are some of the visible concerns in the artist’s production, in addition to the pictorial work itself, which may contain apparently opposite elements on its surface such as brightness and opacity, texture and flatness and that are not antagonistic, but rather share the same terrain and interest

‘‘HIS PAINTINGS ARE FULL OF EXPLOSIVE ENERGY AND MOVEMENT, WITH FLUID BRUSHSTROKES THAT EVOKE ORGANIC FORMS.’’

My work has developed in two directions: The first is a reflection on popular culture in Mexico, and the second is an open investigation into traditional forms of graphic arts and their possibilities for expansion to integrate with other artistic disciplines and areas of knowledge.

The overall goal of my practice is to develop a methodology that allows me greater agility to apprehend and recreate reality. Through humor and absurdity, my images reinterpret scenarios, characters, and situations from everyday life that allow me a broader understanding of the environment in which I live.

The artist experiments with the shape of the human body to explore femininity, queerness, and the power structures that act on bodies.

‘‘I DRAW HIGH HEELS, PANTYHOSE, AND AMORPHOUS BODIES, USING COLOR TO REPRESENT AND HOLD THE VARIOUS LAYERS OF MEANINGS ABOUT THE FEMININE’S VULNERABILITY, SENSUALITY, AND POWER.’’

Guaricha is a term of the Cumanagoto Caribbean ethnic group, used in Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Perú. Guaricha means woman, and over time this term has been transformed to define women as wise, warrior, indigenous, provider, macho, indomitable, devil, easy, witch, brave, and prostitute. In this series, the female body is exposed as an exhausted medium that carries the precariousness of being a woman. I draw high heels, pantyhose, and amorphous bodies, using color to represent and hold the various layers of meanings about the feminine’s vulnerability, sensuality, and power.

Entre Libertad Alcántara y su Bosque de niebla sucede un abrazo al que nos llama a: Percibir las gotas condensadas que caen rítmicamente de una rama a otra; a respirar los aromas que se acentúan o desaparecen conforme va pasando el tiempo; a observar el comportamiento titilante de la luz entre las nubes y las flores, a sentir el viento tranquilo e inquieto sobre todo lo que toca.

‘‘...ONGOING RESEARCH INTO SPACE, TIME, AND PERCEPTUAL PROCESSES. IT CONTINUES MY DEEP INTEREST IN THE PROPERTIES OF SHAPE AND COLOR, AND THEIR EVERCHANGING RELATIVITY.’’ This recent series of oil paintings is the result of my ongoing research into space, time, and perceptual processes. It continues my deep interest in the properties of shape and color, and their ever-changing relativity.

Each of these Reciprocal Systems functions as two separate fragments that make up a complete whole and, simultaneously, as in a process of mitosis where the whole is divided into two equal and interdependent parts, pointing to a notion of change versus continuity, and expressing ideas of mutual action and correlation.

The subtle changes in the repeated shapes are like captured moments in time, creating a dynamic tension between the illusion of depth and the flat surface of the canvas.

Each Reciprocal System is also an exercise in modulating hue, temperature and saturation to manipulate the intensity and visual vibration of the color field. They depict the versatile expressive powers of color contrast, where cool and warm, light and heavy, soothing and stimulating, far and near, all collapse into one.

Faced with the impression of the immaterial dimension and movement, my work provokes the gaze and encourages the viewer to adjust their cerebral and physical point of view, promoting multiple and alternative ways of seeing.
