Ensuring the Health of the Community Because of your generous support, the Jane H. Booker Family Health Center at Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center provides vital primary and specialty medical services to uninsured and underinsured community members. With pediatrics, general medicine, OB/GYN, infectious disease, dentistry and 15 subspecialties, the Booker Family Health Center plays a critical role in the health of the local community. Over the past several years, visits have increased by 40%, with approximately 150 patients seen each day. The Booker Family Health Center is easily accessible and provides seamless continuity of care for hospital-discharged patients who require follow-up services.

Advancing Cardiac Care Throughout the Region and Beyond Jersey Shore University Medical Center is expanding its cardiovascular care facilities, adding 10 new, state-ofthe-art electrophysiology and cardiac catheterization labs, as well as hybrid operating rooms. Patients will also benefit from a dedicated short-stay space for pre- and post-procedure. This project will improve the team member and patient experience by more effectively coordinating care. Now, Jersey Shore’s world-class cardiac team will be better able to perform complicated elective angioplasties and PCIs, all in one location. None of this would have been possible without the generosity of our supporters. You are at the heart of all we do!

Jersey Shore University Medical Center is at the epicenter of cardiac care in the region. Our donors’ support is truly impacting our community by helping us care for our friends, our families and our colleagues. Although I wish that people did not require this service, I’m happy that we are here and ready to care for you.” —Brett Sealove, M.D., chief, Cardiology, Jersey Shore University Medical Center

Helping Medical Residents Pursue Their Passion The Eileen Masterson, M.D., and David Kountz, M.D., Award was established to benefit four residents annually at Jersey Shore University Medical Center following the successful completion of their first year of training. In addition to high academic achievement and demonstrated financial need, award recipients exemplify high levels of humanism and professionalism. Award recipients have used the funds to alleviate the financial stress of pursuing a medical education, or for other educational needs. One resident, in fact, used the award to cover the cost of an online MBA program. This award builds upon the medical center’s academic standing, helping us to attract the brightest students.

I’m very honored and humbled to receive this award. Thank you for this opportunity.” —Harshavardhan Sanekommu, M.D.

Pink Fund Helps in the Fight Against Breast Cancer Breast cancer has touched many of our lives, disrupting families young and old. Fortunately, thanks to your support of the Pink Fund, a donor-funded program, we are able to continue our fight against this serious illness. The Pink Fund enables us to assist patients who do not have adequate resources to pay for their imaging and who may delay routine testing when faced with the financial expense. Tests include screening mammograms, breast MRI localization procedures and biopsies. In this way, patients receive appropriate and timely screening services for breast disease, which aid in earlier detection, and, ultimately, a better outcome.

Care Designed Especially for Kids In a hospital, children are often faced with stressful and potentially traumatic situations that may impact their ability to cope and heal. For example, when a child requires surgery, it can be overwhelming and frightening for the entire family. Thanks to the compassionate support of our donors, patients at Hackensack Meridian Children’s Health at K. Hovnanian’s Children’s Hospital receive support and guidance from a perioperative child life specialist, who prepares each child for surgery, offering support, guidance and resources. The child life specialist also manages the Scrub Club, which includes pre-surgical tours of the hospital, mask induction preparation and an opportunity for children to safely explore equipment before their procedure. The Pediatric Emergency Department also benefits from the services of a child life specialist, who sets the tone and provides continuity of care throughout the child’s hospitalization.

We are so thankful to extend child life programming to Surgical Services and the Pediatric Emergency Department. Through the generous support of our donors, child life specialists are helping support pediatric patients and families during challenging medical experiences.” —Beth Van Buskirk, BS, CCLS, manager, Child Life Services
