HACKENSACK MERIDIAN SOUTHERN OCEAN MEDICAL CENTER DONOR IMPACT REPORT

Rewarding Our Nurses For All They Do

Through the generosity of our donors, Hackensack Meridian Southern Ocean Medical Center is able to offer several nursing awards that recognize our incredible nursing team. Two donor-supported awards, the Pat Muszynski Award for Nursing Excellence and the Elizabeth Kellogg Award for Nursing Excellence, acknowledge the vast contributions nurses make in providing quality care. These awards not only recognize nurses for their outstanding work, they also enable awardees to treat themselves to something very special. For example, recipients are encouraged to use the funds to enjoy a spa day, take a vacation or purchase something special they’ve always wanted.

Medication Assistance Made Available for Patients Through a donor-funded program, Southern Ocean Medical Center is able to provide access to medications for patients who do not have the financial means to pay for them, such as uninsured or underinsured patients. The assistance helps ensure that financial restraints do not limit a patient’s access to proper treatment and care. This, in turn, helps improve patient outcomes, reduce readmissions and avoid additional medical complications as a result of not receiving medication.

The Gift of a Lyft! Southern Ocean Medical Center has partnered with Lyft to help members of the community who lack a reliable means of transportation to and from the medical center for care. Transportation assistance, made possible through philanthropic support from the community, ensures patients can get to and from their appointments at the medical center and alleviates some of the strain on caregivers. As a community beacon, Southern Ocean Medical Center is honored to be able to help patients in this meaningful way. Thank you to our donors who are helping those in need.

Reduced Emergency Department Wait Times Thanks to the generosity of donors, leadership implemented a new system approach known as Pull to Infinity in the Emergency Department at Southern Ocean Medical Center. The Pull to Infinity is a triage system for patients to be seen and assessed faster and more efficiently. The new streamlined approach has improved patient outcomes and satisfaction, in addition to reducing patient anxiety. Moreover, team members feel more confident in patient management, and staff retention has improved. This has all been made possible through the generous support of donors like you.

We want to keep our community members here in the LBI area. Offering this care helps keep our neighbors in their backyard.” —MaryClair Delbury RN, MSN, CNOR, NE-BC interim director of Perioperative Services

Advanced Surgical Technology Southern Ocean Medical Center is one of the few hospitals in the state that offer 24/7 robotic surgery; meaning no matter the time of day, patients can receive state-of-the-art surgical care at their local hospital. With robotic surgery, patients have smaller incisions, less pain and faster recovery times. For surgeons, robotic surgical systems offer greater dexterity and range of motion. Thanks to the support of donors like you, the hospital has been able to add a second da Vinci Xi® robotic surgical system. This additional robot has enabled the team at Southern Ocean Medical Center to more than double the amount of surgeries, offering a shorter wait time for patients requiring a surgical procedure.

50 Years of Philanthropy Philanthropy was the driving force in building Southern Ocean Medical Center back in 1972, when several women’s groups joined together to help raise funds for the then-new hospital. And today, these groups (no longer restricted to women) continue to work tirelessly to bring leading-edge health care to their families, neighbors and friends. The four auxiliary chapters, known as Boosters, Holly, Laurel and SOCH, represent the long-standing commitment of hundreds of people throughout the area—many of them retirees—who work together to fund new equipment, programs and resources for the hospital. Through their generosity, the members of the auxiliary chapters are ensuring that Southern Ocean will be able to serve the community they know and love for many more years to come.
