HACKENSACK MERIDIAN BAYSHORE MEDICAL CENTER DONOR IMPACT REPORT

Bayshore Medical Center Foundation

Breast Care for Those in Need Hackensack Meridian Bayshore Medical Center is proud to partner with generous donors to ensure vital breast care services are available for uninsured patients. Many patients delay obtaining regular breast care due to financial difficulties, but, thankfully, the donorsupported Pink Fund is available to help. Early detection is key to better outcomes, and the Pink Fund ensures that patients receive necessary diagnostic and screening services in a timely manner to detect disease in the earliest possible stage.

Donor support is vital for the existence of this program. We are extremely grateful because early detection is critical for successful treatment, and this program helps patients who otherwise would not be able to access these important screening and diagnostic services.” —Carolyn Napolitano, Breast Center Manager

We’ve Got a Ticket to Ride Bayshore Medical Center’s donor-supported patient transportation program is critical for members of the community who lack safe, reliable transportation after treatment. The program provides transportation through Lyft and local taxi services for many patients, very often after a visit to the Dr. Robert H. Harris Emergency Care Center. In turn, the program helps avoid delays for patients being discharged, and opens hospital beds for new patients more quickly.

Endoscopy Suite Offers Advanced Care and Technology Thanks to the generosity of donors, Bayshore Medical Center performs advanced endoscopy procedures, such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), for diagnosing and treating problems in the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas, as well as endoscopic ultrasounds for diagnosing biliary types of cancer. The suite features the most advanced equipment, including a spyglass, which provides extremely precise visualization of the affected area for the gastroenterologist. Nurses and technicians are nationally-certified for endoscopy, bringing a level of expertise not found in many other centers.

We are grateful for our family of donors who help us provide state-of-the-art care right here in the community.” —Karen Ranta Daly, DNP, Director of Surgical Services & Nursing Operations

Bettering the Health of the Community Through Education The medical profession is constantly evolving, with new information affecting how to best care for patients every day. Donor-funded nursing education enables the team at Bayshore Medical Center to advance their skills, directly impacting patient care. For example, Bayshore’s RN Competency Day provides hands-on educational stations to train team members on vital equipment and new techniques, and nursing scholarships provide funds for team members to pursue continuing education. Thank you to our donors whose support means so much!

Treating Death With Dignity Everyone deserves a proper burial no matter their means, including a person who may pass away with no loved ones to make final arrangements. At Bayshore Medical Center, caring for hospice patients sometimes involves providing burial services for hospice patients who have no families or the assets necessary to be put to rest. Through this final act of caring, the team and our donors bring dignified closure to patients’ lives.

Keeping Patients Close to Home Thanks to donor funding, Bayshore Medical Center’s specialized team of cardiologists, interventional radiologists, nurses and clinicians provides elective and emergency cardiac and interventional radiology procedures right here in the community. Dozens of types of outpatient and inpatient procedures are performed each month, and patients requiring these procedures don’t have to be transferred or travel to another facility. Instead, they are able to remain close to home where they can be supported by their family and other caregivers.
