Nursing Scholarships Help the Nurses of Today and Tomorrow Supporting team members who wish to grow in their profession is critical to providing such essential, life-affirming care throughout the community today and for years to come. Each year, donor-funded nursing scholarships are awarded to team members who wish to further their nursing education. Through experience and education, nurses become more knowledgeable and are also able to share their learnings with their team members, benefiting even more patients, as well as the community and the entire organization.

Advancing Expertise to Better Care for You Thanks to the generosity of donors, a member of the radiation oncology leadership team at Hackensack Meridian Ocean University Medical Center attended the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology’s annual summit, one of the industry’s leading educational events. Participating in conferences enables our team members to expand their knowledge with the latest diagnostic, treatment and research advancements and gain valuable insight from other leading practitioners - all to better care for you and your loved ones.

Our Hearts are Full! Ocean University Medical Center proudly opened the doors to the Dr. Robert H. and Mary Ellen Harris Heart & Vascular Center, which provides heart and vascular procedures in one convenient location. The center is equipped with three multipurpose catheterization/vascular labs and a hybrid OR, allowing for more efficient preparation, treatment and recovery. By having both diagnostic and surgical functions in one space, clinicians can diagnose cardiac and vascular conditions and offer immediate surgical treatment without delay. We are grateful for our donors who have supported this critical service!

We are changing the way that patients access heart and vascular care in the area with the latest technology, coupled with the unmatched expertise of our clinical teams.” —Frank Citara, MBA president and chief hospital executive, Ocean University Medical Center

Giving Voice to Parkinson’s Patients Hackensack Meridian Johnson Rehabilitation Institute (JRI) at Ocean University Medical Center is a specialized 40-bed acute inpatient rehabilitation facility that offers intensive physical, occupational and speech therapy for neurologicallybased issues, including strokes, traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries. Most recently, the JRI established two donor-funded speech therapy programs designed for Parkinson’s patients: LOUD This program has changed my life!” Crowd and SPEAK OUT!, which help —Grateful patient patients build and retain vocalization skills. SPEAK OUT! offers individual research-based medical therapy to help patients with Parkinson’s regain and maintain their voice. The LOUD Crowd weekly maintenance program is an opportunity for members to share resources, hold one another accountable for completing daily exercises and provide support and encouragement during group speech exercises.

Training the Next Generation of Local Physicians Thanks to the incredible generosity of donors, Ocean University Medical Center’s Graduate Medical Education program has continued to expand, and today has 120 total residents and fellows on its campus. The presence of residents and fellows within the hospital also improves communication and care coordination, and enables patients to be visited more often throughout the day, providing updates on care and emotional support to the patient and family. Thanks to your support towards educating tomorrow’s medical leaders, approximately 50% of Ocean’s graduates settle down in the area and join the medical staff, ensuring that medical care will be available for years to come.
