HACKENSACK MERIDIAN PALISADES MEDICAL CENTER DONOR IMPACT REPORT

Palisades Medical Center Foundation

Coming Soon: A New Emergency Care Experience Hackensack Meridian Palisades Medical Center will soon be home to a new and expanded Emergency Department, doubling its current footprint. This exciting renovation could not come at a better time and will greatly improve the care experience. Your support has helped move the project along, from government approval and design to implementation. The Emergency Department will feature an additional 17 private treatment bays, bringing the total to 50. Two new trauma rooms are being added, and plans feature dedicated spaces for immediate triage, and non-urgent “fast track” patients. In addition, two areas of the new unit will offer separate, secure locations for behavioral health patients. Your generosity is helping to bring a new emergency care experience to our community.

A Team Member’s Perspective

I like working in the Emergency Department because you see all kinds of patients, and most of them you can stabilize, treat and send home the same day. Each patient’s story starts and ends with you, and it can be very rewarding to know you are part of their care.” —Oscar Orbegozo, registered nurse

Thanks to the generous support of donors and investment of leadership, Palisades Medical Center has grown tremendously over the years, and long-term team members like Oscar Orbegozo have witnessed it firsthand. Oscar joined the Palisades family as an Emergency Department nurse in 2009 and has seen the benefits of capital improvement projects, new equipment and continuing education for team members. All of this has been made possible by donors like you.

Educating Our Nursing Team Gifts supporting nursing scholarships have a tremendous impact. They promote a culture of excellence and recognize nurses for their compassion, their caring and for their efforts to bring the latest learnings to the bedside. Scholarship support, funded through donor generosity, enables our nurses to focus on advancing their careers. Your support has helped our nurses realize their dreams, and, in turn, they will continue to care for you, your loved ones and your community with the latest information and greatest compassion.

Nursing is a passion of mine and a career I am so grateful to have. Furthering my education will allow me to continue to provide the best possible care for my patients.” —Melanie Kerekes, N.P., scholarship recipient

Stop The Bleed Education Saves Lives Thanks to you, the community outreach program at Palisades Medical Center recently provided tourniquets and holders for North Bergen’s “Stop the Bleed” program. Quickly controlling excessive bleeding in an injured patient is very important. Stop The Bleed’s goal is to educate the public on how to respond to bleeding injuries until help arrives. We are proud to partner with our community in this critical work, empowered by your generosity.

Little Things That Make a Big Difference When you make an unrestricted donation, you enable Palisades Medical Center to address needs across the entire medical center, as they arise. Unrestricted gifts also enable our team to provide special touches for patients, often small gestures that can make a big difference in their experience, like patient comfort items, such as hygiene products or clothing, earbuds, phone chargers and activity books. These seemingly simple touches can dramatically improve our patients’ stay. This kindness would not be possible without your kindness!

Forever Grateful Your gifts to Palisades Medical Center make extraordinary care possible - especially when every second counts, like it did for Lincoln Gerytch. After suffering cardiac arrest at home, paramedics revived Lincoln and rushed him to the Emergency Department. But Lincoln’s heart stopped again, and a physician immediately began CPR. Lincoln’s wife, Ay Li, was scared, “I kept praying to God that the doctor would not give up. We have been married for 40 years - I want another 40 years.” The doctor did not give up, and Lincoln’s heart was beating again. Once stable, a helicopter took him to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he underwent a procedure for a coronary stent.

We were very lucky to have Palisades close by. He is sitting here today with just one stent. It’s amazing.” —Ay Li Gerytch
