SUPPORT AFTER BARIATRIC SURGERY

Thanks in part to donor generosity, Bayshore’s Center for Weight Loss provides the full spectrum of support and ancillary services to help patients improve their long-term health and lifestyle after bariatric surgery. Services such as dietitian-led support groups, and sometimes nutritional counseling, are not covered by insurance. Fortunately, philanthropy enables the team to provide these impactful services free of charge, ensuring that our bariatric patients are offered all the help they need in their lifelong health care journey.

Bayshore’s Center for Weight Loss is accredited by the American College of Surgeons’ as a Center of Excellence

“I have never met a group of people like them. They care about us as individuals. They care about you from the day you walk in, and still care about you after you leave.”

Scholarships Help Nurses Achieve Education Goals

Thank you to donors who continue to fund nursing scholarships at Bayshore. These scholarships open doors and ease the financial stress of pursuing higher education by supplementing tuition, lab and other fees, books, supplies and other education expenses. Your support enables the nurses and nurse leaders of tomorrow to focus on learning, thereby elevating the care we provide to our patients.

Care Extends Beyond the Hospital

Caring for our patients goes well beyond the four walls of the hospital. Preparing patients and families for their return home is an important part of our work, and arming them with the information and tools they need is a critical component of their recovery. Patient-focused hospital discharge education increases and reinforces our patients’ understanding of their illness and treatment, while fostering a continuity of care, improving home safety and reducing the risk that patients will need to return to the hospital. We are grateful for our donors who fund this important work and help us care for our community.

Taking Care of Our Team

Thanks to compassionate donor support and the hospital’s Integrative Health & Wellness Committee, custom-made “Lavender Bags” are available to help team members decompress in private when they have had an exceptionally rough shift or are going through a difficult time. These special kits include self-care items such as journals, tea, coffee, breathing strips, aromatherapy items, sleep masks, face masks and lip balm, and serve as a reminder for employees to prioritize self-care. The Lavender Bags help staff process challenging situations and offer comfort when it is most needed.

COMPASSIONATE & ACCESSIBLE BREAST CARE

Donor support has made a difference in providing outstanding preventive and breast cancer treatment services. The 100% donor-funded Pink Program provides access to lifesaving breast cancer detection for uninsured patients, including screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms, breast MRI, MRI breast biopsies, stereotactic/tomo and ultrasound biopsies. All breast cancer patients also benefit from the services of health navigators who help coordinate programs, resources and services, making care less stressful throughout their cancer journey. Social workers also assist with concerns regarding treatment, finances and insurance, as well as provide valuable information and guidance after they are discharged from the hospital.

A CHILD’S SMILE IS A TREASURE

Hackensack Meridian Bayshore Medical Center recently introduced Dr. Bob’s Treasure Chest, a custom-designed toy chest for children seeking care in the Jean and John Fay Pediatric Care Area at the Dr. Robert H. Harris Emergency Care Center. The toy chest honors Dr. Robert H. Harris, affectionately known as Dr. Bob and beloved husband of Mary Ellen Harris.

Pediatric patients visiting the emergency department are offered a toy to hug or play with, providing a welcome distraction during a stressful and sometimes scary experience. This fun, brightly-colored cart is stocked with toys for children of all ages and brings smiles to their faces, as well as their families and caregivers.
