DONOR IMPACT REPORT

EDUCATING OUR NURSES

Financial barriers may sometimes inhibit individuals from reaching their educational goals. Fortunately, through the generosity of our donors, nursing scholarships are available to defray some of the costs. Ann May scholarships are awarded to assist team member students who are preparing to enter the nursing profession, as well as nurses who are seeking advanced degrees.

“The Ann May scholarship is the key that unlocks the door to my dreams, turning aspirations into achievable realities through the evolving opportunities of education.”
LEONARDO DOSONO, patient care technician

Specialized Care for Expecting Patients

Pregnant patients arriving at Hackensack Meridian Ocean University Medical Center’s Hirair and Anna Hovnanian Emergency Care Center for an obstetric related concern care are cared for in an obstetric emergency triage room, located in the Labor and Delivery department. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the room now features a stretcher designed specifically for obstetrical patients that is narrower and can be used by a patient throughout labor and delivery. The narrower stretcher enables the team to better care for patients and newborns, and facilitates quick and safe patient transfers in case of emergency.

Getting to the Heart of the Matter

Since its opening last year, Ocean University Medical Center’s Dr. Robert H. and Mary Ellen Harris Heart & Vascular Center has made a difference in the heart health of the Ocean community and beyond. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures, which are used to treat heart blockages, increased more than 138% over the previous year, and diagnostic catheterizations increased by 71%. Our team is now able to meet the ever-growing cardiac needs in the community and provide immediate treatment without delay. This is only possible through the compassionate support of our donors.

NEW TREATMENT BRINGS HOPE FOR METASTATIC PROSTATE CANCER PATIENTS

Ocean University Medical Center’s Nuclear Medicine Department now offers PLUVICTO(R), a revolutionary new medication for metastatic prostate patients. This FDA-approved treatment has been shown to improve clinical outcomes and patient survival rates. Thanks to our donors whose ongoing support of advancing our team’s knowledge and expertise, our clinical team was able to bring this option to our patients, offering hope for patients facing a difficult diagnosis.

Did You Know?

Ocean University Medical Center’s cancer program is accredited with commendation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, an achievement earned by less than one-third of all cancer programs across the country.

REDUCING INFECTION AND INCREASING SAFETY IN THE OPERATING ROOM

Hackensack Meridian Ocean University Medical Center’s surgical department implemented ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate, the energy molecule that is found in all living cells) testing, a simple and reliable way to verify cleanliness and measure contamination on the surfaces throughout the operating rooms in only 15 seconds. They also launched the Relay system, an innovative platform that combines hardware, cloud software and mobile connectivity that allows the team to communicate better, stay safe and increase efficiency. These advancements demonstrate our commitment to reducing infection and increasing patient safety and are made possible through the generosity of our donors.
