Welcome to

Welcome to the September issue of International Glamping Business... and a very special one at that! This edition doubles as the Official Show Guide for The Glamping Show, now in its 11th year.

It feels full-circle for us. When International Glamping Business launched alongside the very first show, we couldn’t have imagined just how far the sector would come, or how exciting it would be to witness companies grow, new ideas take hold and entrepreneurs step in to shape the future. Eleven years later, the energy hasn’t slowed one bit.

If you’re joining us at the NAEC this year, you’ll find us in the indoor arena on Stand 1018. Come say hello and pick up a free copy of the magazine to take home – we’d love to meet you and have a chat.

Inside this guide, you’ll discover all exhibitors, all speakers and the full seminar programme for all three days of the show, which our publisher Steph Curtis-Raleigh curated this year.

Beyond the show, this issue also looks further afield: we speak with Lars Schäfer and Kamrul Baksh about unlocking glamping’s potential in Guyana, where outdoor hospitality is shaping up to play a key role in the country’s tourism story. We spotlight Ronnie Smith, whose Glamping Revolution in Portugal is gathering real momentum. Her journey – and where she’s headed next – makes her one to watch.

We also focus on companies with water and wellness offerings, which make a great addition to any site, big or small. Here’s to an inspiring few days together. Whether you’re attending for the very first time or you’ve been here since the early years, The Glamping Show remains the place to celebrate everything our industry has to offer.

See you on Stand 1018!

GLAMPING FINALLY BREAKS THE ‘CANVAS CEILING’ AS DEMAND MATCHES TENTS

RMS, a leading hospitality platform for hotels, vacation rentals and outdoor accommodations, has released its 2025 State of Outdoor Hospitality Report.

Based on responses from over 550 U.S. campers, the report shows upscale outdoor stays have broken the “canvas ceiling.” Luxury yurts, domes and treehouses now account for 29% of first-choice accommodations – a five-point rise over 2024 and, for the first time, equal to tents.

Traditional camping enthusiasm remains, but concerns are growing: 43% fear government staffing cuts could erode the national park experience, and 45% say financial uncertainty may limit trips.

Generational preferences stand out. Nearly a third of Gen Z campers opt for glamping, Millennials favor tents, and Gen X and Boomers lean toward RVs. Most campers take just one or two trips a year, but 58% would go more often if time and money allowed.

Technology continues to reshape bookings: 64% now book directly via campground websites, with fewer than one in ten using desktops. Confirmation messages are key, with 61% calling them “extremely” or “very” important.

Adam Seskis, CEO at RMS, said: “The fact that glamping has now matched traditional camping as a top accommodation choice is a clear sign that comfort and convenience are no longer just nice-to-haves, they’re now expected.

“This report shows that for campsite operators three things matter most. First, ensure your booking experience is effortless on a phone. Second, treat automated messages as opportunities to add value. Third, keep pricing transparent and deposits flexible so guests feel confident booking even when budgets are tight.”

Beyond logistics, motivations differ: glampers and van campers are the most

budget-conscious but also most willing to pay for extras like hampers, linens and hot tubs. RVers prioritize hookups and activities, while younger tent campers are swayed by social media – though scenery remains the top draw across all groups.

The full report, plus a first look at RMS’s new branding, is available at rmscloud. com/rms-resources-2025-state-ofoutdoor-hospitality-report

Chester Zoo has officially opened The Reserve, its highly anticipated safaristyle lodge resort, combining outdoor hospitality with frontline conservation funding.

The landmark development welcomed its first guests on 18 August 2025, marking a new era for the zoo as both a world-class visitor attraction and a sustainable tourism destination.

The resort features 51 lodges, designed with natural materials and set within a lakeside and savannah-inspired landscape. Guests staying in The Reserve enjoy uninterrupted views of giraffes, zebras, and blesbok antelope from their private terraces –immersive encounters that blend seamlessly with the comforts of a boutique hotel.

CHESTER ZOO OPENS SAFARI RESORT ‘THE RESERVE’ WITH CONSERVATION AT ITS HEART

Amenities include the Amboseli Restaurant: offering contemporary dining inspired by global conservation regions; Tsavo Lounge: serving cocktails and light bites with panoramic views; Exclusive guest benefits such as early morning zoo access, curated animal experiences, and dedicated concierge services.

Each lodge is fully equipped for comfort and sustainability, offering climate control, modern furnishings and spacious interiors suitable for families, couples, or small groups.

Crucially, every stay at The Reserve directly supports Chester Zoo’s international conservation work. All net proceeds will fund projects protecting endangered wildlife and habitats in the UK, Uganda, Kenya and beyond.

The zoo expects The Reserve to generate £10 million annually in visitor spending and to attract an additional 35,000 overnight guests per year, reinforcing its role as a key economic driver for the North West.

The resort has also created around 70 new jobs, with roles spanning hospitality, guest services, and wildlife engagement. Chester Zoo’s CEO described the launch as “a first-of-its-kind opportunity to merge unforgettable guest experiences with meaningful conservation impact.”

The development is part of a broader trend in the outdoor hospitality sector where luxury glamping models are being integrated into established visitor attractions, extending dwell time and creating new revenue streams.

COLLECTIVE LAUNCHES: BOUTIQUE MARKETING STUDIO AIMS TO FUTUREPROOF ECO-RESORTS

As digital disruption, AI search shifts, and changing traveller behaviours reshape hospitality, a new studio is helping luxury outdoor accommodation and retreat businesses not only survive, but scale with purpose.

Sarah Riley, hospitality consultant and founder of the Glamping Academy, has launched Inspired Collective Ltd, a fullservice marketing studio delivering donefor-you growth solutions for glamping sites, eco-resorts, retreat centres and experiential brands.

“Right now, many business owners in this space are being pulled in too many directions,” says Riley. “They’re creating extraordinary guest experiences, but falling behind online, losing visibility, missing bookings, and burning out. Inspired Collective was created to solve that.”

Travellers are demanding more personalisation, sustainability and storytelling,

AND GLAMPING SITES

while traditional marketing tactics no longer deliver results. With AI reshaping search, businesses need smarter strategies to win bookings. Inspired Collective combines creative execution with strategic consulting, backed by Riley’s decades of industry insight.

“My mission is simple: take the pressure off small businesses, without it costing the earth,” she adds.

The studio provides end-to-end support including crowdfunding campaigns, sales funnels and booking systems, paid advertising, email marketing, SEO, brand storytelling, PR, media pitching and concept development for pre-launch sites. It also offers co-branded content partnerships, professional photoshoot direction and ongoing consultancy to guide strategic growth.

With a deliberately small client list and a hands-on team, Inspired Collective delivers high-touch, bespoke marketing support for brands that are scaling up or launching with intention. “This isn’t just about visibility,”

Riley says. “It’s about building brands with soul. Brands that last. Our clients don’t want to shout louder… they want to connect deeper. We help them do that.”

Riley is a trusted name in unique hospitality with over 20 years of experience and more than 5,000 clients in 18 countries. She has founded Inspired Courses, The Glamping Academy, and now Inspired Collective Ltd, while also speaking internationally and leading one of the industry’s most active professional communities.

JOHN WHITE GITA UK

John White is a seasoned trade association professional, having worked in industries as diverse as garden furniture, amusement machines, timber and bread to name a few. In 2024, he established Arete Business Solutions to provide boutique trade association management to small and emerging trade bodies. He quickly secured a contract with the Glamping Industries Trade Association, (GITA UK), which has grown to well over 80 members in less than 12 months and is delivering member benefits that would flatter many larger organisations. He is also Managing Director of FCLA Ltd, a copyright licensing consultancy.

John believes that well-run trade bodies are a central pillar to good public policy development. In other words, governments need industry to explain the nuanced and practical implications of any public policy proposal if they are not to create many unforeseen and unhelpful consequences. As such, he has been involved in government relations for his entire career, both as CEO of a number of trade bodies but also as an advocate for Trade Associations more generally. He has sat on the Board of the CBI’s Trade Association Council and on the Trade Association Forum, which he chaired from 2003 to 2005.

In his spare time, John is an avid supporter of Leyton Orient Football Club and at one time played football, badly, for one of its fanzine’s teams. His biggest claim to fame is that he once appeared in an advert for Carling Black Label.

BEN GRIFFITHS CAMPING CONNECT

n THE CONNECTED GLAMPSITE

After a frustrating weekend at a holiday resort with no 4/5G signal or WiFi, my business partner and I set out on a mission: to bring fast, reliable connectivity to holidaymakers – no matter where they are on-site, or where that site is in the country. That was back in 2011, and since then Camping Connect has worked tirelessly with holiday parks and resorts of all sizes to enhance the guest experience, improve rebooking rates and help drive new van sales.

We were fortunate to have strong foundations to build on, with degrees in Computing and Engineering and MBAs to guide the commercial side. Combining our technical backgrounds with a clear understanding of what guests actually need, we developed a managed service model that takes the hassle away from operators and delivers real, measurable benefits.

Personally, I feel incredibly lucky to spend each day combining my passion for design engineering with a love of the outdoors – work has taken me to some of the most stunning locations in the UK and brought me into contact with some of the most forward-thinking businesses in the leisure industry.

Camping Connect is always looking to evolve, and we’re proud to have recently partnered with Passman, a leading European provid er of connected solutions in the leisure and hotel sector. This partnership allows us to offer IPTV and Chromecast services alongside our core Broadband, WiFi, VoIP, and CCTV solutions, helping UK parks stay ahead of rising guest expectations.

BLACKDOWN Wellness Beyond the Hut

Bl ackdown’s story began in 2011 with the build of their very first hut to a customer order. Its founder William Vickery says, “Nowadays we would call that first hut a Retreat hut and although we have gone on to build our Turnkey and Brace double huts, fitted out with all manner of extras, the essence of what we wanted to create with that first hut is still very much with us.

“We wanted to build a shepherd hut capturing the heritage of the huts used on Victorian farms, with the quality we were known for in our work and, in doing so, create a space that would be treasured for years to come by our customers.”

When you talk to a Blackdown customer, it’s clear to see that their promise to create spaces to treasure has very much been honoured.

Elly of Devon Heaven Hideaways shares her Blackdown experience: “Our Blackdown Shepherd Hut, named Cherry Blossom, has been a core part of our glamping experience for almost 10 years, standing the test of time both in style and durability. While we’ve made a few brilliant changes to the hut over the years, it’s all been beautifully done and all to help the glamping experience.

“It is by far our easiest hut. I made a big mistake buying another hut from elsewhere

at one point, and I would never go anywhere other than Blackdown again. It has worn so beautifully – we’ve barely had to paint or do any maintenance, and it just gets better with age.”

This long-lasting quality is a testament to the craftsmanship of Blackdown Shepherd Huts, making them a smart and sustainable choice for glamping businesses.

The Glamping Show 2025 sees Blackdown showcasing the progression of that desire to build spaces that create a haven for hospitality clients and domestic customers alike. Alongside their best-selling turnkey hut, which provides an ideal space for hospitality guests, Blackdown have also developed a wellness offering which helps their clients extend the experience they can offer to their guests.

Wellness is front of mind for many people looking to book breaks in the UK, and an outdoor addition offering a wellness experience provides a cost-effective option to increase bookings and extend the season into the colder months.

Blackdown offer three sauna styles in a range of sizes. Choose from the Sauna Deck options, which offer a side vista window or a deck-facing Horizon glass wall and space for up to 6–8 guests, or opt for a ground-based

cabin providing sauna space for 2–3 people. Their oak canopy option offers a covered area that can be accessorised with LED lights and canvas sides, and then purposed for a number of uses depending on individual site owner preferences. It provides a well-built outdoor space for a kitchen, a large bath, a seating area with woodburner and, of course, Blackdown’s swinging day bed – perfect for lounging around, day or night.

Whether you are starting out on your hospitality journey or looking to add to your guest experience, a visit to Blackdown on stand 262 is well worthwhile.

SUPA HEATER The Secret to Smoother Hot Tub Changeovers

For glamping site owners, hot tubs are more than just a luxury – they’re a booking magnet, combining higher utilisation and greater revenue. Guests love the idea of slipping into warm, bubbling water under the stars and many will choose a site specifically for that feature. The problem? Changeovers. Draining, cleaning, and reheating between guests can take hours, adding pressure to turnaround schedules and cutting into operational efficiency. Enter: the SUPA Heater.

Designed specifically to tackle the hot tub headache, the SUPA Heater has become a game-changer for site operators. Instead of waiting 10+ hours for a tub to reheat, or having to be constantly available to re-stock a wood burning heater, this powerful yet efficient system can heat your clean water direct from the tap or heat a fully refreshed clean tub in compliance with HSG 282. Its ability to do 3 hot tubs in the changeover period at just £695 delivered including VAT with a 2-year warranty makes it the most versatile and economical option available. Guests arrive to a ready-to-use hot tub – and relieves owners, operators and staff from the stress of tight turnaround windows.

The advantages are clear. Faster changeovers mean more consistent check-in times, smoother housekeeping routines and fewer

awkward conversations with guests about delays, which can potentially have a negative impact on reviews. It also opens the option to offer hot tubs on more units without fearing the operational bottlenecks and even same day booking. In effect, SUPA Heater unlocks a site’s ability to scale up its premium offering without scaling up its headaches.

There’s also the financial upside. A tub that’s back in action prior to check in doesn’t just improve guest satisfaction, it maximises revenue potential. Every time a hot tub is unavailable, operators risk disappointing guests or losing out on upsell opportunities. With a SUPA Heater in place, downtime is minimised, ensuring the hot tub is always a highlight rather than a hassle.

Guests rarely see the work that goes into creating seamless hospitality. What they do notice is whether the experience feels effortless. A warm, inviting hot tub ready on arrival can turn a good review into a glowing one, and glowing reviews keep bookings flowing.

Derry Green, owner of The Secret Garden Glamping and chair of GITA says, “At The Secret Garden Glamping, guest

comfort and experience is everything. SUPA Heaters are used across all accommodation spaces and hot tubs. Their fast, reliable and perfectly suited to the British weather – hot water in abundance is always available. When operating in a rural location on very tight turnover deadlines, ease of use, consistency and reliability are essential and SUPA Heaters deliver on all counts. SUPA Heaters help us to maintain our high standards, but also help cutdown on callouts and maintenance headaches – a huge win behind the scenes.”

For glamping businesses that want to raise standards, protect margins and keep operations stress-free, SUPA Heater delivers on all fronts. It’s more than just equipment; it’s the behind-the-scenes ally that turns hot tubs from a logistical challenge into one of your site’s biggest selling point.

WOODPECKER TUBS

Elevates Lincolnshire Rural Retreats

On e of the most interesting and appealing sites we have worked with this year is a site on the outskirts of the City of Lincoln: the former touring site named Lincolnshire Rural Retreats, run by the Hugill family – who also own the shepherd hut manufacturing company Lincolnshire Shepherd Huts.

The site, whilst in its infancy in terms of how long the business has been running, is definitely a site with a clearly defined identity. With a number of well constructed and manufactured shepherd huts and pods, there are also plenty of activities to undertake whilst staying there including the walking of alpacas, bike hire, and relaxation in one of the hot tubs and saunas that are located next to the accommodation units or alternatively in the wellness area on the site.

In addition to the welcoming ‘extras’ of the site, it is also important to remember that this site is constantly evolving, with the owners Karly and Jamie allowing people to unwind and relax away from the stresses and strains

of daily life, as well as enjoying everything that is on offer to them during their stay at Lincolnshire Rural Retreats.

It would also be remiss of me to mention at this point that LRR has only been open 8 months (at the time of writing this piece) but during this time, the owners Karly and Jamie have experienced over 85% occupancy for the year until at least November 2025, as well as receiving 5-star reviews from their guests who have been pleasantly surprised and delighted by what is on offer at this real gem in Lincolnshire.

So, why have Woodpecker Tubs decided to supply LRR with tubs and sauna products? For us, it was an easy decision, especially when you are presented with the visions of the Hugills, and why not – especially when guests are able to relax and unwind in the wellness areas or in their own hot tubs that are sited next to the accommodation units. After all, wellness and wellness areas are on the up, and there is a need to provide more that just the norm for guests as they strive to receive more than what they get at home.

Furthermore, at the site, we have provided a range of hot tubs including our Ofuro, our Prime and Elite tubs to the site, with more on the way to the site as it expands. Additionally, there is also the luxury of having one of our larger saunas that adds a touch of class, giving guests an opportunity to take in the sights that surround the site from all sides.

When speaking about the site and the Woodpecker products that are on the site at Lincolnshire Rural Retreats, Karly Hugill, owner of LRR said: “Here at Lincolnshire Rural Retreats, we are building something really special and having Woodpecker products on our site means that we are able to meet and exceed the needs of our guests, ensuring that our site has something for everybody, as they relax and enjoy their breaks away with us, in our very own piece of paradise!”.

HOW GUYANA IS UNLOCKING ITS POTENTIAL THROUGH GLAMPING

Guyana is embracing glamping as a way to elevate its world-class natural and cultural experiences with upscale accommodations. In this interview, Glamping Advisors and the Guyana Tourism Authority share the vision, opportunities and community impact of their glamping project.

What sparked the collaboration between Glamping Advisors and the Guyana Tourism Authority?

Kamrul: Guyana has long provided indelible experiences through its culture, pristine naturebased offerings, and incredible adventures. However, it was recognized that visitors could have enhanced stays with better-quality accommodation. Hence the pursuit of glamping, which is both practical and trendy.

Guyana issued a call for experts to help develop and implement a national programme to unlock the country’s extraordinary opportunities for glamping. In partnership with the Guyana Development Initiative, we found Glamping Advisors uniquely positioned to lead this effort.

What is the overall vision for the Guyana Glamping Project?

Kamrul: Guyana has a wealth of ideal adventure locations and a growing need for upscale lodging. Glamping fits perfectly with the country’s vast attractions and will fill a significant gap in the market.

The project aims to elevate visitor experiences while allowing travellers to immerse themselves in Guyana’s natural beauty. A range of accommodation options will provide the

Lars Schäfer (Founder of Glamping Advisors)

comfort and amenities that modern travellers expect.

Guyana already boasts five-star activities and is now focused on developing world-class facilities. The Glamping Project aims to bridge this gap and attract investment in facilities that make attractions and landscapes more accessible.

What makes Guyana a compelling destination, and how does it stand out from other emerging tourism markets?

Lars: Guyana offers breathtaking natural wonders, including one of South America’s largest unspoiled rainforests, some of which remain almost inaccessible to humans. This ecosystem is enriched with majestic waterfalls, immense rivers, beautiful lakes, and access to the Atlantic Ocean. It is no surprise Guyana is also called the “Land of Many Waters.”

With most of the population concentrated on the coast, Guyana is among the least densely populated countries on Earth. Wildlife thrives,

Kamrul Baksh (Director of Guyana Tourism Authority)

and biodiversity levels rank among the highest in the world.

Uniquely, Guyana pairs an “Amazonian surrounding” with a “Caribbean feeling,” reflecting strong cultural and historical ties with island nations. With English as the official language, travel is easy for North American markets, supported by daily direct airlift.

What are the key features of the three sites – Pakuri, Mashabo, and Kamana – and how were they selected?

Lars: Each site connects to Guyana’s “Land of Many Waters” identity:

n Pakuri Glamping sits on a calm riverfront at the edge of the rainforest.

n Mashabo Glamping will feature islands created around submerged palm trees in a vast lake, with common areas integrated into the village.

n Kamana Glamping is set beside a stunning waterfall between savannah and rainforest. All three are ideal bases for exploring surrounding nature and offer a wide range of

experiences – from wellness to adrenaline –with direct village involvement, such as artisan workshops.

Selection was guided by Glamping Advisors’ methodology, which evaluates inter alia accessibility, destination relevance, and infrastructure availability.

How are local communities being involved in the design, operation, and long-term vision of these sites?

Kamrul: Local communities have been consulted from the outset. Guyana believes in full and proper stakeholder engagement, and investors will be expected to work closely with communities for local knowledge, employment, and training.

We aim to create meaningful opportunities for Indigenous communities, building on Guyana’s strong tradition of equitable partnerships. Communities will benefit from job creation, cultural showcases, and diversified local economies.

What role does sustainability play in this project?

Kamrul: From the start, it was clear any nature tourism development in Guyana must respect the country’s rich habitats. The glamping sites are designed to facilitate nature-based experiences, creating a vested interest in protecting the environment.

Lars: Buildings will be integrated into the landscape without cutting trees. Solar PV panels will generate electricity for both sites and nearby villages, reducing reliance on diesel generators. A portion of revenues will support reforestation, and guests will be encouraged to participate in local initiatives.

All three projects are on Amerindian (Indigenous) land, supported by Village

Councils and guided by the Amerindian Act. No land will be taken from communities but rented to operators, generating revenues for local development. At least 50% of staff will be local, supported by training initiatives.

Who is the ideal guest for glamping in Guyana, and how will you attract them?

Lars: Two key groups stand out: international intrepid travellers seeking luxurious outdoor stays, and domestic travellers eager to try new experiences.

Guyana has seen remarkable economic growth and now ranks fourth in GDP per capita in the Americas, after the United States, Canada, and The Bahamas. Specific target groups include birdwatchers, nature photographers, and wildlife enthusiasts, as all three projects are in spectacular natural settings.

Attracting global travellers will depend on the uniqueness of the offer, complemented by professional marketing. As this is a flagship initiative of the Guyana Tourism Authority, national support will amplify operator efforts.

What opportunities exist in developing remote, nature-focused tourism?

Lars: Focusing on niche products allows Guyana to develop its natural assets –rainforests, waterfalls, rivers, lakes, and stunning landscapes. With over 85% of the country covered by rainforest, nature-based tourism presents vast opportunities.

Kamrul: Guyana is home to more than 870 bird species, attracting birders worldwide. In 2025, the country launched its first Bird Guide Accreditation Programme to raise guiding standards and enhance the profile of birding tours.

Guyana is also a leader in community-led tourism, with Indigenous communities managing and owning enterprises. This model is being scaled up nationwide, with more than 60 communities developing authentic experiences.

How does this initiative support Guyana’s long-term tourism development goals?

Kamrul: Guyana’s vision is to be a global leader in ecotourism and sustainable tourism. The Glamping programme will help achieve this by meeting visitors’ expectations for upscale amenities while diversifying and differentiating the tourism portfolio.

What kind of investors or partners are you hoping to bring on board?

Lars: The next step is finding the right investors and operators. Alongside international interest, there are strong opportunities for regional players with established customer bases. Impact investors may also find appeal in the strong community development focus.

The opportunity lies in being first movers in meaningful hospitality offerings within an untapped tourism landscape. Our commercial projections show healthy profit margins, both individually and within Guyana’s robust investment ecosystem.

Looking ahead, what will success look like for glamping in Guyana?

Lars: Success will mean visitors enjoying a wide range of premium glamping options across Guyana. Their experiences will be enhanced by upscale amenities and world-class facilities, positioning Guyana’s accommodation portfolio on the global stage.

Kamrul: With glamping, Guyana’s accommodation portfolio will gain recognition on the global stage, setting a new standard for luxury ecotourism.

HOW RONNIE SMITH IS TRANSFORMING PORTUGAL’S OUTDOOR HOSPITALITY MOVEMENT

From the French Alps to Lisbon, Ronnie Smith has turned her passion for sustainable living into one of Portugal’s fastest-growing glamping enterprises. In this feature, she reveals how Glamping Revolution is reshaping hospitality with modular design, bold partnerships and a strong environmental ethos.

When Ronnie describes her journey to founding Glamping Revolution, the story starts far from Portugal. “I was born in the UK, raised in France, studied in Spain and relocated to Portugal to start my entrepreneurial journey in Lisbon, the start-up capital of Europe,” she recalls. After earning a dual master’s in chemical and process engineering and modern languages, she rejected corporate graduate programs to pursue what she called a dream of being a “real engineer.”

Growing up in the French Alps inspired her perspective. “People were so healthy and happy living in harmony with nature,” she says. “Then, travelling across Europe’s cities, everything felt wrong: too fast, too disconnected, too unsustainable.” That tension became the seed of Glamping Revolution, a company designed to provoke change by bringing people back to nature. Today, the business designs, manufactures and installs innovative structures for sustainable outdoor living, delivering turn-key hospitality projects across Europe.

Glamping Revolution has grown into one of the most recognisable names in Portugal’s glamping sector. Ronnie believes success lies in its identity as more than a business. “In Portugal we are widely recognised as a movement,” she explains.

The pandemic proved to be a turning point. When events arm Eurodome stalled, the company pivoted hard into glamping. “As our sales grew, waiting for others to install cement foundations delayed us. We started importing groundscrews and developed specialist carpentry teams. Suddenly we no longer depended on anyone. We could manage projects from start to finish, and this was a game-changer.”

Building close relationships with Portugal’s Tourism Ministry, regional governments and industry associations strengthened that momentum. International partnerships with suppliers across Belgium, Holland, Bulgaria and the UK extended its credibility and reach.

Portugal’s glamping movement Portugal’s appeal as a destination is undeniable: sunshine, scenery, food and culture. Yet accommodation shortages long plagued rural areas. “The insufficient housing stock, married with booming tourism, caused an accommodation crisis,” Ronnie says.

Glamping offered a fast, flexible solution.

With flat-packable structures requiring no permanent foundations and rapid assembly, developers could create resorts in record time. “Our projects achieved unmatched occupancy rates, not only in summer but year-round,” she notes. The results attracted investors, who reinvested profits to expand their parks. Today, glamping is recognised as one of the leisure market’s strongest investment opportunities, with demand moving toward luxury and wellness-focused experiences.

Landmark projects

Glamping Revolution’s portfolio now includes some of Portugal’s most ambitious outdoor destinations. Ronnie points to Reserva Alecrim as a milestone. “I still remember the first time I walked the land – 50 hectares of empty

space,” she says. “The mastermind behind it declared: ‘We will have the largest Glamping Project in Southern Europe.’ I replied: ‘Over the next decade we will become the largest equipment supplier.’ At that time we were only months old.” Eight years later, Reserva Alecrim accommodates over 200 guests with lakes, pools and a wide range of modular structures. Other standout projects include Gavião Nature Village, featuring 13 adventure domes on a riverfront site; Sois Ecolodge, with 10 luxury panorama domes nestled in vineyards near Lisbon; and Glamping Camp Faro, a beachside retreat with 16 bell tents that the company itself operates each season.

Clients and concepts

Glamping Revolution works with a wide range of B2B clients. Ronnie identifies four main project types: accommodation-driven resorts built from scratch, experience-driven projects that expand existing estates or activity parks, hotels seeking to increase capacity without major builds, and businesses adding glamping as a secondary revenue stream.

Each path requires tailored guidance. The company’s team supports clients from land purchase and design to licensing, infrastructure, construction and interiors. “We meet the unique challenges of every project, from concept to completion,” she says.

Building with sustainability in mind

For Ronnie, sustainability is non-negotiable. Her early career in waste treatment revealed how much society discards, and those lessons underpin every product. “Our domes are designed with full recyclability in mind,” she

explains. The metal frames are guaranteed for life, PVC covers can be recycled, and interiors use reused wood, recycled insulation and recycled polyester.

The approach extends to construction. Groundscrew foundations eliminate cement and protect local ecosystems, while flat-packed products cut transport emissions. By 2026, the company plans to launch its first fully off-grid dome with integrated water and solar systems.

Adapting to Portugal’s landscapes

From beaches to vineyards to mountain cliffs, Glamping Revolution has built on Portugal’s most challenging terrains. Elevated platforms and groundscrew foundations make nearly any location feasible. Projects are always tailored through site visits and careful mapping.

General principles guide design: orienting units toward views, grouping communal spaces out of sight and using uneven terrain or vegetation for privacy. The company’s catalogue of 14 product families ensures the right match for every environment, whether it’s bell tents in

vineyards, geodesic domes for year-round comfort, or panorama domes in windy regions.

Advice for investors

For those eyeing a glamping project, Ronnie stresses three points. “Location is everything – coastlines or areas of natural beauty perform best. Create your own identity and brand because clients come for unique experiences. And be ready to scale. Pre-plan phases and install infrastructure early so you can grow without disruption.” She also invites prospects to the Lisbon showroom, where case studies and structures can be explored firsthand.

The power of collaboration

With glamping still relatively new, Ronnie sees community as essential. “There isn’t a rule book to follow,” she says. “Community becomes essential to guide new projects and set standards.”

In Portugal, Glamping Revolution co-founded the Portuguese Glamping Association (AdGP) to protect and strengthen the sector, prevent unsafe builds and ensure high standards of safety, hygiene and construction.

What’s next?

Looking forward, Glamping Revolution is extending its expertise beyond glamping into residential, wellness and education projects. Sister brand Eurodome is also expanding across Europe and the Middle East, delivering everything from festivals to immersive shows. In 2024 a third company was launched: AMA – Amazing Modular Architecture. “AMA was born to unify our two brands and expand our offering,” Ronnie explains. It focuses on modular houses, plug-and-play kitchens and bathrooms, and larger-scale projects such as a new school planned for 2026. “AMA is really about pushing the boundaries of what modular architecture can do: scalable, sustainable and inspiring.”

Visit Dark Skies is all about unique sky experiences. Why should glamping hosts focus on stargazing?

When I first travelled to the darkest parts of Canada and Ireland, I realized how powerful and rare the sky can be as an experience. For glamping hosts, the night sky is an untapped asset, especially at remote sites, and creating guided stargazing moments isn’t just memorable, it’s profitable. If you look at the current market, providers like Star Struck Glamping in the US or Kosmos Stargazing charge premium prices for these high-value experiences. Specialization allows them to command much higher rates per guest, compared to standard accommodation alone. Their specialization is a combination of well-chosen location, branding and stargazing experiences on site. These experiences are a valuable asset when it comes to differentiation.

Good starguides are rare. How can hosts leverage the sky more easily?

That’s the beauty of our concept. Our 33-minute audio guide is expertly designed for guests to follow as their eyes adjust to the darkness. It’s hands-off for the host with no prior knowledge required. Guests lie back, listen and witness the sky transform. Couples can do it when they want – it is immersive, private and beats star tours when it comes to being a fit to glamping. Every license comes with ready-to-use marketing materials and full support, making it simple for anyone to integrate. You can offer a top-tier celestial experience without massive investment or a steep learning curve.

BECOME A STARGAZING HOST and Double Your Revenue

You recently launched Cloud Gazing. How does this fit in?

Guided Cloud Gazing lets guests enjoy the sky by day. It is mindfulness, science, and poetry combined. Developed with Gavin Pretor-Pinney from the Cloud Appreciation Society, it’s a meditative, weatherindependent activity: every sky, whether clear or cloudy, becomes a feature. Hosts can now create a signature “Sky Retreat” from sunrise to starlight, keeping guests on site, engaged and eager for more.

What impact can combining both experiences have on revenue?

Offering both stargazing and cloud gazing instantly doubles your on-site activity offering. This increases guest satisfaction, makes your site more attractive for longer stays and, critically, enables you to price packages as a true premium experience. Like Star Struck Glamping or Kosmos Stargazing, you’re not just selling a bed, you’re selling a memory. That’s where higher prices and greater profitability come in. And with our October launch offer – buy one license, get the other one for one year free – you get double value right from the start. This means, you can double your revenue: by raising your prices, attracting more guests and selling stargazing experience packages, all with a license that is paid back within one night.

How can hosts get started?

Join our live webinar with the Glamping Industries Trade Association on September 30th 2025 at 10am. We’ll show step by step how to add these experiences, maximize marketing, and deliver the wow-factor guests

will pay extra for. For GITA members, participation is free, or contact us directly.

Are there examples of this strategy in action?

Absolutely. Besides the above mentioned role models, plenty of hosts mention the sky and have built their whole brand around skyview experiences, commanding exceptional nightly rates. Adventurly in Switzerland, Raus.Life in Germany, Center Parcs Eifel – all have leveraged our tools to boost guest engagement. In an increasingly crowded space, glamping that offers experiences can maintain to be first choice.

Any final advice?

Don’t just provide a place to stay, instead stage the sky. When you make the cosmos an integral part of the guest journey, you stand out and open up new, higher-value revenue streams. The sky’s the limit!

Field to Favourite with

UNIQUE HIDEAWAYS

Working collaboratively with owners to create dreamy spaces guests can’t wait to stay in, Unique Hideaways is well-versed in getting glamping hideaways off the ground. Offering a field-to-finish service, we help transform a simple space into a magical escape, while also providing ongoing marketing and bookings management. Our team is dedicated to crafting memorable experiences for both owners and guests.

Dream, Experience, Repeat

There are many measures of success, but for us, the ultimate marker is when owners return to do it all again. Many of our partners, after a successful first venture, go on to build additional hideaways—creating a collection of retreats that attract new and returning guests alike.

Mark and Siobhan’s journey is a perfect example. Their first hideaway, The Little Cider House, is a tranquil cabin nestled in the Cornish countryside. We supported them from the very start, guiding them through every stage of the building and letting process.

Mark and Siobhan said: “We knew working with Unique Hideaways was right for us, having established a relationship long before we started building our accommodation. Their advice and support, which is based on

years of experience, detailed knowledge of the market, and insight into future trends, was invaluable to our design, build, and finishing process.”

After three years of glowing reviews and repeat bookings, Mark and Siobhan decided to expand with a second retreat. The Little Woodland House was born—designed to complement its predecessor, with whimsical touches that add to the sense of magic. Dog-friendly and family-focused, it features outdoor bathing and idyllic alfresco spaces. Together, the two hideaways are a perfect pairing, bookable separately for solo stays or together for group getaways.

A Unique Vision Comes to Life

We welcome owners at any stage of their glamping journey—from seasoned hosts to those still sketching out blueprints. We first met George and Olivia at The Glamping Show in 2021, when they shared their vision for a handcrafted treehouse in Wales. Built by George himself, Ty Coedwig was destined to be a Unique Hideaways favourite.

From the start, the design was brimming with unique features, including a bespoke slide from the treehouse to the forest floor—a playful detail that has been a huge hit with guests. Other standout touches include a balcony, alfresco bathtub, and a swing, all designed to create unforgettable moments. We were delighted to support

George with everything from interior design advice to selecting the perfect outdoor bath.

Today, Ty Coedwig is one of our topperforming hideaways, proving how thoughtful, unexpected details can transform a stay into something truly magical—bringing glowing reviews, loyal guests, and repeat bookings.

Whether you’re seeking advice on how to start your journey into unique accommodation, or the right marketing partner to bring your hideaway to life, our team at Unique Hideaways would love to help. Learn more at uniquehideaways.com or contact us at property@uniquehideaways. com.
