A MESSAGE FROM

DAVID KORSE Speaking to International Glamping Business, David Korse, founder of The Glamping Show USA says, “It is difficult to comprehend how many things have changed in such a relatively short amount of time! A year ago, we were preparing for our first Glamping Show USA event to open in Colorado in October of 2019. Our fingers were crossed for a successful conference and exhibition for the dynamic glamping sector here in the Americas. 10 months ago, we were celebrating the show’s success. We had over 450 trade visitors that interacted with 43 exhibitors and sponsors. We had successful conference sessions and tremendous enthusiasm for the growth we were expecting for the 2020 edition. The growth is indeed happening, but so much differently than we could have ever expected. Who knew a pandemic was about to invade our existence? So now, it is our pleasure to welcome

04

everyone to The Virtual Glamping Show USA 2020. The event will open on October 13th and will remain available to registrants through October 31st. Our live-streaming conference sessions will be held from October 13th – 15th. Once finished, each session will be available on demand to conference delegates until the 31st. The entire experience has been an adventure. The most encouraging discovery was that the enthusiasm for the event remained strong. In fact, our registrations have been almost 300% ahead of last years because of the convenience (and reduced expense) that online access allows. A large number of our trade visitor participants would probably not had the time or resources for the trip to Colorado. Now, as a virtual event, they can participate at their convenience. These materially larger numbers will be a boon to our exhibitor/sponsor community and will help them all increase their branding and visibility to these pre-qualified trade prospects.

One of the largest challenges was figuring out the features and benefits we could offer to our exhibitors and sponsors and determining how best to educate them about the opportunities, and how to pivot their marketing strategies from an in-person exhibition to this digital opportunity. Thank heavens for Zoom, and Microsoft Teams and other video conferencing tools. We spent hundreds of hours working with our clients to help them figure out how best to highlight themselves. With several weeks to go before the event, we’re excited to have confirmed registrants from 40 States and over 30 other countries. So, more trade visitors from more places than in 2019. That’s good news for our exhibitors of whom there are more than in 2019 also. On behalf of our entire team, we’re excited to invite everyone to join us for The Virtual Glamping Show USA 2020. ”

DON’T FORGET YOUR LONGTERM VISION.

HOW TO BECOME SUCCESFUL IN GLAMPING Glamping, the upscale version of camping, has been continuously growing in popularity throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. An increasing number of people are opting for a unique outdoor experience without the extra work associated with traditional tent or RV camping, while maintaining some of the simple luxuries of home. Demand for this market segment has started to explode. Take a closer look at jumping on the bandwagon with the

extraordinary glamping tents from Outstanding. With years of experience and local team members around the world, Outstanding US advisor Jason Higbee is happy to share some tips on how to get started in glamping.

Some choices may seem very attractive right now, but will they still be in several years? It is important to develop a longterm vision that takes into account various factors, such as future expansion and cultural trends. Do you have the space to expand? Will your target group change over the years? For example, if your target group differs seasonally, it would be a wise decision to choose various tents that are suitable for multiple target groups in order to capture multiple audiences. DEMAND FOR GLAMPING DOMES GREATER THAN EVER

Another successful Glamping Show was held in the UK at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire in September and despite the unusual year and certain restrictions due to the worldwide pandemic, the industry was out in force. The TruDomes glamping dome difference was found in their unique, aircraft grade aluminium frames that do not corrode over time and have superior green credentials over more widely used metals like steel. As an environmentally conscious company, they strive to reduce the carbon footprint of their structures too. TruDomes were pleased to showcase one of their British designed, engineered and manufactured Classic Glamping domes that boast a 19-foot diameter and remains the most popular size in their Glamping dome line-up. The Classic Glamping geodesic dome offers approximately 280 square feet of floor space and was fitted out with an insulation kit, a blackout curtain, woodburning fire and stove, solid door solution and an extraction fan. Inside it demonstrated that a large bed, food preparation and seating areas along with some futon beds were all within the realms of possibility for this popular size; and the accommodation remained cozy yet spacious. Visitors loved the panoramic

window that allowed the outside in and makes a feature of any view or landscape. Feedback from campsite and holiday park owners was that with staycations on the rise for the foreseeable future they have more demand for accommodation than they currently have available and so the show was busy with owners looking to solve their accommodation shortages (many have sold accommodation for next year that they don’t even have yet)! Kelda Bassett, Sales Director for TruDomes reported, “After a slow start for the hospitality sector earlier in the year with many businesses around the world being forced to close for a number of months, campsite and land owners have told us that finding accommodation that would be easy to sell and attract customers to their sites was of utmost importance. Additionally, cash flow has been tight for some and so achieving that all important return on investment as soon as possible is top on the list for many of the buyers that we met with. As

TruDomes Glamping domes reflect British made quality and exceptional value for money they offer one of the quickest returns on investments available - and so we have seen our biggest post-glamping show surge in orders to date. It gives us all confidence that the hospitality sector is bouncing back and that the coming year can be strong and successful for the glamping industry.” TruDomes are delighted to participate in this year’s virtual programme of the Glamping Show USA and will virtually walk and talk guests through their popular Classic Glamping Dome set-up and answer some frequently asked questions. They anticipate that the demand for staycations seen in the UK will be replicated throughout the world. Seemingly, there has never been a better time for sites in the US looking to startup or expand their business with additional accommodation. Contact them today to find out more. www.trudomes.com

GET A PROFITABLE TASTE OF THE WILD WITH PLAINSCRAFT COVERED WAGONS The story of PlainsCraft Covered Wagons begins not far from the story of America’s expansion into the west. Pioneers in the mid-1800s packed their wagons full of basic necessities and treasured possessions as they headed from the Kansas City area into the wilderness. To many, a covered wagon represents going into the unknown, looking to expand horizons beyond the familiar prairie frontier. And while the original utilitarian covered wagons are now gone from the landscape, PlainsCraft wagons bring that magic of the past to life to give glamping guests a camping experience unlike any other. Today’s campers are looking for nontraditional travel experiences and a way to authentically explore nature without sacrificing comfort, which is exactly what the wagons bring to glamping and unique luxury outdoor hospitality providers. A modern, fully outfitted PlainsCraft wagon answers the demands campers are looking for. Not only are they are designed to be unforgettable, they’re also built to help your business grow. Owned by Dennis and Donna Steinman, long-time entrepreneurs from the Kansas area, PlainsCraft was born from Dennis’ love of covered wagons. “I’m from Kansas, grew up on a farm, always had horses and just kind of always had a thing for the wagons and the pioneers and the guts they had,” he says. “When I was a kid my dad built a little covered wagon for us.” Alongside his wife, Donna, who has a background in interior design and has owned her own retail and interior design stores, PlainsCraft is the perfect combination of their passions.

PlainsCraft wagons are meticulously designed and built with attention to every detail. The wagons feature powder coated metals for weather resistance. The wagon’s woods as well as its canvas cover are treated to withstand the elements. And its Amish-made wheels are fully functional to allow for storage off-season or movement if needed. For those seeking interior design, Donna brings a high level of comfort and class to the deceivingly spacious wagons. The moment you walk in the wagon, that attention to detail is obvious. All wagons are built with flexibility. From full, luxurious bathrooms to space for a mini fridge or even a fleet of bunk beds, floor plans are simple enough to give you the right option for your needs. PlainsCraft also offers full bathrooms and heating and air to deliver on that luxury travel experience. The only limit is truly your imagination. “We’ve listened to our market and we’ve built these wagons so our clients will get good rental rates and good return on investment,” Dennis says. “We are doing this from the heart. We’ve been willing to go the extra mile to do what is right and what our customers need for their business.” Locations charging significant premiums for stays in the covered wagons can quickly generate significant returns on their investment. PlainsCraft offers an ROI calculator to understand the overall potential of these glamping luxury accommodations for your business. Plus, financing is now available through True Core Capital. FLAMERS NATURAL FIRELIGHTERS BY CERTAINLY WOOD Certainly Wood’s goal this year was to introduce a safe and natural firelighter to people who wanted a better alternative for starting their campfires and woodstoves. Made of simple wood scrapings and refined wax, FLAMERS Natural Firelighters are the quick and easy way to light any fire. They are safe to cook with indoors or out, are odorless and won’t flavour your food, are highly effective and are super easy to use; They burn for a good 8-10 minutes and will light wet or dry. Certainly Wood are seeing FLAMERS used to start charcoal barbecues, woodstoves and fireplaces, pizza ovens and pellet smokers, firepits and chimeneas – and above all, for camping and starting campfires.

Certainly Wood believe in what they say, which is why they don’t just sell FLAMERS, they use FLAMERS. They value the beauty of Mother Nature, just like you do. Certainly Wood want the land to be protected and preserved for their children, they want the water to be clean and safe for the generations to come. Marketing Director, Cassie Simpher says, "We think that camping/glamping in general is already a form of social distancing and being outside is a great way to stay safe yet still have a vacation." Although their April occupancy did take a hit compared to 2019, May occupancy was up 8% from last year and June was up almost 20%. Jessica Hale is the Director of Operations for the Ridge Outdoor Resort, located in Sevierville, TN. She says they’ve had a great reopening and they’re staying completely full! They are also cleaning each unit with CDC guidelines. If you’re looking to add glamping to your resort, get in contact at Tent Masters and they can help guide you through the process.

THE GLAMPING SHOW UK The UK version of The Glamping Show went ahead this year with great success. Split into two sections, the physical show (The Glamping Show Visit) which was held at the NAEC Stoneleigh in Warwickshire, and the virtual event (The Glamping Show Virtual). The International Glamping Business Team were present at the event and we had such a great time. After a very difficult year where lockdowns and uncertainty have affected the UK glamping industry in a very real way, it was incredible to be able to get out and meet everyone again, learning about all the new products and services the industry has to offer. Getting back in touch with people we haven’t spoken to for some time due to current events, we were also lucky enough to make a number of new acquaintances too. For visitors and exhibitors, the news that the show was going ahead was welcome news. The UK Government had put in place strict restrictions to protect people from the ongoing pandemic, and safety was of paramount importance to The Glamping Show Organisers. A huge amount of effort was made by the

organisers to ensure that The Glamping Show UK was a safe and successful event. This, of course, meant that the show looked a bit different to previous years. The Glamping Show Visit held at the NAEC Stoneleigh was staged as an outdoor only event for the first time in its history and strict health and safety measures were put in place. Walking around the event we were overjoyed to see visitors and exhibitors alike adhering to social distancing, wearing masks where appropriate, limiting the amount of people in glamping structures at any given time and making good use of the hand sanitizer stations. Knowing what British weather is usually like we were slightly nervous when we heard that it would be an outdoor-only event, but thankfully are nerves were unfounded as everyone enjoyed three glorious days of sunshine.

We would like to send a huge thank you to the organisers of The Glamping Show UK, Swan Events, for putting on such an incredible event in such a difficult time. From planning, to build-up, to the show itself, the team were always on hand to answer any questions and help out in any way they could. We would also like to thank both the exhibitors and the visitors at the event for following the health and safety measures so stringently and helping to make sure that The Glamping Show UK went ahead safely. We here at International Glamping Business love what we do because the glamping industry is a collection of such incredible people and we believe that the UK show this year proved that more than ever. And what an important show it was.

With an incredibly rocky start to the year, glamping sites across the country were forced to remain closed until well into the season. It was a very difficult time for the industry, with no clear answers on when sites would be able to reopen. Once they did however, it became clear that glamping was in very high demand. With travel restrictions being placed on a lot of international travel, the people of the UK started to look for a way to go on a domestic holiday and experience the country that they lived in, in new and exciting ways. Glamping ticked all the boxes. There was a surge in staycations and a surge in glamping bookings with many sites very quickly becoming fully booked. This phenomenon is not restricted to UK shores however and can be seen happening across the globe, including the U.S.A. People are looking for domestic holidays to experience their own country in different ways, to get back to nature, in a more private and intimate setting. After months of lost business and uncertainty, we are happy to say that there has never been a better time to own a glamping site.

The Glamping Show Visit The Glamping Show Visit was held entirely outdoors at the NAEC Stoneleigh in Warwickshire over three uncharacteristically sunny days. With just under 60 companies in attendance, no matter what stage visitors were at with their dream glamping site, there truly was something for everyone. An incredible achievement, The Glamping Show UK was the first trade event to go ahead in the UK since lockdown and is one of very few to take place this year. Safety was of paramount importance to The Glamping Show UK organisers. The event was organised in compliance with the guidelines given by the UK government, and every precaution was taken to keep exhibitors and guests safe. The Glamping Show team also took advice from all available sources, including the "All Secure Standard", a framework compiled by events industry trade associations and approved by the DCMS. This led to limits on the number of people allowed to visit each day, clearly marked socially distanced routes through the exhibition, limits on the number of people allowed into glamping structures

at any given time, clearly marked areas where masks had to be worn and hand sanitizing stations present throughout the exhibition space. This not only made sure that everyone in attendance was as safe as possible, but also made the event much more comfortable and enjoyable. There were 58 exhibiting companies in attendance, providing everything that a glamping site owner, or soon-to-be glamping site owner, might be looking for. All types of glamping accommodation types were accounted for including yurts, shepherds hut, domes, cabins, treehouses, custom structures and more. It is always a great experience walking around The Glamping Show, seeing all of the incredible structures on display and this year was no different. Utility products were also well represented with furnishing, cooking, spas and hot tubs, and toilet solutions companies all exhibiting. Wi-fi, Power supply and solar solutions were also present, meaning that whether a site was on the grid or off of it, the owner would be able to find exactly what they needed.

A large number of companies who offered glamping services were also in attendance. From marketing to booking, finance to insurance, and designers to architects, The Glamping Show UK offered it all. As the only dedicated glamping trade show in the UK, what we think is great about the event is that someone could wake up, decide they want to open a glamping site, head on over to the show, and leave that evening with everything they need to do it. TruDomes were present showing off their domes. Fully furnished, with sunlight streaming through the large window and a lot of interior space meant that the tour was a joy. Riverside Shepherd Huts brought along one of their stunning shepherd huts and Pullman Carriages did the same. Yurts for Life were present showing off a couple of beautiful yurts, one small and one large. Conker living was in attendance and for the first time ever, brought along a full-scale version of their Conker which was among the most unique structures in attendance and fantastic to look around. The Coir Store were at the show with their

100% natural, eco-friendly coir matting perfect for any glamping accommodation. Camplus were exhibiting with their ensuite toilet and shower pods with Caravan Park Electrical Services (CPES) who are now their UK distributorship and also offer electrical distribution systems. Naked Flame had a large selection of off-grid, hand-crafted Scandinavian Eco WoodFired Hot Tubs, Saunas and outdoor cooking solutions, and the booking experts Quality Unearthed were also in attendance. Out of the 58 companies in attendance, 31 were exhibiting for the first time this year. This made the show the most extraordinary demonstration of brand-new products allowing visitors to the show the opportunity learn about companies they may not otherwise have been aware of.

The Glamping Show Virtual The Glamping Show Virtual was created for anyone who was not able to attend the live event, meaning that they would still be able to participate and gain access to the valuable content and vital information to help them develop and expand their business.

The online event included the ability to browse more than 60 online and offline exhibitors, request information or a call back from exhibitors, access to online seminars including more than 40 speakers covering every aspect or running and growing a successful glamping business, and the Glamping Debate, an online panel debate, discussion and networking experience. The Glamping Show UK Virtual gave people the ability to browse exhibitors who were present at the show, as well as virtual exhibitors. This was made possible due to enhanced exhibitor listings that were hosted on The Glamping Show UK website. These listings included information about the company, products being displayed at the show and contact information. Virtual visitors to the show were also able to request more information about the companies and also request a call. This allowed people who were unable to attend the physical event to still have access to this information, as well as the ability to get in contact with the companies that they wanted to do business with.

The Glamping Show UK seminar programme has always been at the heart of the show and represents the most concentrated learning experience in the UK glamping industry. Due to social distancing is was impossible to hold these seminars in person and so, they were moved online to The Glamping Show UK Virtual. Having built relationships with the most renowned experts in the sector, The Glamping Show Team UK drew almost 40 speakers who were willing to share years of experience and practical knowledge. The seminar programme covered a vast area of industry knowledge, including start-up, growth & development, diversification, eco & sustainability, marketing and planning. Highlights from the programme included “Glamping – Creating Unique Experiences in the Outdoors” by Janita Mossel of Spa Tree, “A Shared Voice foe the Glamping Industry” by Rob Farrow of The Glamping Association, “How to set your Glampsite Apart from the Competition – Whatever Your Budget” by Kate Morel of Morel & Co, “Selling on Social: the Secrets to Attracting More Guests through Social Media” by Sarah Riley of Inspired Camping, “Glamping – A Sustainable Future” by Tim Rees of Quality Unearthed and “How to Change Your Business From a Listing to a Brand” by Alex Haughton of YourWelcome.

Another highlight of the virtual show were the live glamping debates. Hosted by International Glamping Business publisher, Steph Curtis-Raleigh, the live debates consisted of 1-hour long debates with industry experts held at 4pm each day, followed by an hour of networking. The first debate was titled “Do you have to own your own land? Or is there another way?” where Steph was joined by Kerry Roy of Camp Katur and Cerchio Del Desiderio, and Josh Crick of Brown & Co. The second was called “How to sell your glamping business. Do you have an exit strategy?” with Richard Moss: Head of UK Parks Agency | Parks Sports and Marinas, Alternative Markets at Colliers International and Jo Ritzema, Managing Director of WCF Ltd. The third was titled “The UK Glamping Industry The Size and Scope of the Market” where Steph was joined by Edward Busby of Crown & Canopy to discuss the report that was carried out by International Glamping Business and Crown and Canopy looking into the UK glamping market. The International Glamping Business Team had such an incredible time at The Glamping Show 2020. Having been visiting the event since its inception in 2015, we’ve been lucky enough to watch as the glamping industry has matured into something truly special and unique.

The structures that were on display were breath-taking, and we noticed a real diversity to the offerings that wasn’t as apparent in the early days. As the industry has grown, the manufacturing companies have grown with it, and there are now more than ever offering structures that are being built solely for the purpose of glamping that improve year on year based on feedback and a better idea of what glamping customers are looking for. It was also fascinating to see all of the new services that are available to the industry. This year, more than ever, it was easy to see that they were all a lot more tailored to the glamping industry specifically. In the early days, a lot of the services available, such as planning, insurance, marketing, etc, were brought over from other hospitality sectors such as hotels and RV parks. but as the industry has grown, so too has the number of companies offering services that focus completely on glamping. We had a great time at The Glamping Show UK and it has only made us more excited for The Glamping Show U.S.A. Held as a virtual event between the 13th and the 15th of October, the International Glamping Business Team will be there, and we hope to see you there too!
