Royal Far West’s Ride for Country Kids smashes fundraising goal By SOPHIA MCCAUGHAN The 2025 Ride for Country Kids has officially wrapped up, marking the biggest Ride ever with 100 riders taking part for Royal Far West’s 100 year anniversary - reconnecting with its history to ensure a stronger future for country kids. This year’s Ride was more than just a journey, it was a powerful statement of commitment to go above and beyond for children living in remote, rural and regional communities. Covering 380km across far west NSW - from Bourke to Narromine - riders engaged with local communities and raised $820,00, with donations still coming in. This result has surpassed the organisation’s fundraising goal and will ensure more children in rural and remote Australia receive the critical health services they need This year’s event reinforced Royal Far West’s commitment to creating lasting change. Riders completing the epic journey in Narromine on Saturday afternoon were welcomed by community members at Rotary Park, with heavy machinery hoisting a banner marking the finish line. Music by the Narromine High School rock band and teachers added a festive spirit to the end of the gruelling event. Continued page 11

Landscaping transforms Trangie preschool and ELC By SHARON BONTHUYS A little vision, local support, and a lot of hard work has combined to transform the formerly bleak entrance to the Trangie Preschool and Early Learning Centre (ELC) into something truly beautiful. Six months in the making, the board of directors’ project to landscape the entrance and front yard area of the town’s early learning facility has delivered a securely fenced, functional outdoor space complete with sensory gardens, a picnic table, raised spaces for children to sit or play on, and an impressive stone yarning circle. Current and former members of staff and the board of directors joined some of the centre’s 78 families late on Tuesday afternoon to celebrate the completion of the project. Board president, Claire Austin, said providing extra space

and break-out spaces for the children and staff at the centre was a priority for the current board of directors. The unused front lawn provided the perfect opportunity to find this extra space at the centre, and Dubbo Landscaping brought the vision to life. “Previously, there was no fence, and people used to cut a track along the dead lawn to get to the front door,” Claire explained. The stone yarning circle is the spectacular centrepiece of the space. “It’s a spot where teachers can come and read to the kids, or the kids can have a bit of quiet time, or they can play across the stones,” Claire added. Centre director Katrina Jahnsen is delighted with the transformation of the previously unused space. Continued page 5
