ANZAC Day around the Shire

the importance of ANZAC Day with many people from the numerous community organisations laying wreaths in remembrance of those who have fallen.

By SOPHIA MCCAUGHAN ANZAC Day in the Narromine Shire is a solemn and heartfelt occasion, uniting residents in the community to honour the courage and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women. Hundreds of residents from Narromine and Trangie gathered in their respective towns to commemorate the legacy of the original ANZACs through dawn services, marches, and memorial ceremonies.

Narromine IN Narromine, the day began with a Dawn Service at the Cenotaph and following the early morning tribute was a free breakfast hosted by the USMC — fostering a sense of community and reflection. Narromine RSL Sub-Branch President, David Taylor, also spoke at the Dawn Service about the importance of remembering the ANZACs. “We are here this morning to honour them, to be grateful for what they have done, and to hopefully encourage one another to hold dear to ourselves the values that these brave men died for,” he said.

At 9.30am a memorial service took place at Narromine War Cemetery to honour the 12 servicemen interred there, including members of the Royal Australian Air Force and the Australian Army. The ANZAC Day march assembled out the front of the USMC with the Dubbo and District Pipe Band kicking-off the march with ex servicemen and

women marching and relatives of those who have served and since passed. All schools in Narromine carried banners throughout the march, as well as members of NSW Police, Fire and Rescue, Narromine Hospital, VRA, SES and other community organisations also taking part in the march. Following the march through

Dandaloo Street, the main commemoration service assembled again out the front of the Narromine Cenotaph. The whole town of Narromine was most likely at the main commemoration service with those in attendance withstanding the unseasonably warm Autumn conditions. TRANGIE held its own commemorations at the same time as Narromine’s with a Dawn Service commencing at 5.30am at the Trangie Memorial Hall - followed by breakfast at the USMC. Trangie ANZAC Day Committee Member, Cassie told the Narromine Star it was one of the biggest crowds she could remember at the Dawn Service as well as the main memorial service that happened later in the morning. “It was a very big crowd, it was great to see so many people from Trangie and those who travelled to Trangie for the service,” she said. A march also took place in Trangie before the mid-morning memorial service and the Narromine Star would like to thank Alex Gartside for supplying photos of the various services on ANZAC Day.
