8000 Cups of Kindness poured at Cafe 2823 By SHARON BONTHUYS Earlier this week, Cafe 2823 passed another significant milestone in its Cups of Kindness initiative. The pay-it-forward initiative that involves cafe patrons donating money to enable others to have a free coffee has given away 8000 hot drinks since it started in May 2020. It’s a staggering result from what started out with a random act of kindness by Trangie local Kate Kennedy to buy 10 strangers a coffee following the death of coffee-loving teen Timmy Dolton, who took his own life at just 17, and his family asking for people to perform random acts of kindness following his funeral. Fully supported by the team at Cafe 2823, the initiative has grown its own wings, celebrating kindness in the community and encouraging people to reach out if they need help. “With every cup we think of you, [Timmy],” the team wrote on social media on August 12. Well done, Cafe 2823. Doin’ it for the kids: Firies raise funds for ‘Beat the Burn’ By SHARON BONTHUYS Narromine fi refighters donned their protective gear last weekend and walked 14 kilometres for a good cause raising funds for the annual “Beat the Burn” campaign. It’s the second year local fi ries from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Station 401 Narromine did their bit locally to support the wider organisational campaign where fi refighters tackle the challenging City2Surf fun run in Sydney to raise funds for young burns survivors. Beat the Burn supports Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation (SCHF) at FRNSW’s official number “002” Station, the Burns Unit at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Now in its 21st year, the wider campaign has raised a staggering $4.6 million for burns research and to purchase expensive equipment, enabling young burns survivors to access to the latest techniques in pain and scar management, with their fam-
