GRANDEUR PLANS
A WEEK AT SEA
It’s hard to describe the opulence of a Regent Seven Seas ship without actually experiencing it yourself. We could craft Pulitzer Prize-winning copy exploring the ins and outs of the ship and it still wouldn’t come close to getting a first-hand account of life on board.
Luckily for you, we’ve been on board. I sat down with Panache Cruise Connoisseurs, Jack and Milo, to find out exactly what makes Regent Seven Seas, more specifically Seven Seas Grandeur, so magical.
Morning lads. I want to have a quick chat with you both about your recent experience aboard Seven Seas Grandeur. Firstly, can I ask where you sailed?
Jack: We started in Southampton, then went on to Liverpool. From there, we had an overnight in Belfast and another overnight in Glasgow, before visiting the Isle of Man and returning to Liverpool.
Milo: It was a pleasure being able to see places that we’re sort of familiar with from a completely different perspective. Everybody should sail around the British Isles at least once in their lives.
That makes sense. And what were your first impressions when you boarded the ship?
Jack: I’ve been on other Regent ships before, but Grandeur definitely had the “wow” factor. It felt very glitzy and glamorous—lots of crystal details and a very modern design.
Milo: It was my first experience aboard a Regent Seven Seas ship, so I could only compare it to other cruise lines. It was clear from the outset that it was in a category of its own. From the welcome aboard to the public spaces to the facilities– everything felt considered.
So, Jack, how did it compare with the other Regent ships you’ve sailed on?
Jack: The other ships are excellent, but Grandeur feels enhanced. They’ve clearly put a lot of thought into creating something above and beyond, almost like a luxurious hotel at sea.
And how did you find your suite?
Milo: We were upgraded to a Concierge Suite and it was perfect for us. We had a walk-in wardrobe and the bathroom had a bath and shower, which always feels premium aboard a cruise ship.
Jack: The extra space made a big difference, especially since I was travelling with a co-worker rather than a partner. It was in a great midship location. The balcony was also huge. You probably could’ve fit four people on there quite comfortably. I really couldn’t fault it.
How did you find the staff on board?
Jack: I’d say the bar staff stood out the most. They were really attentive, especially in the evenings when things got busy. They’d make the effort to chat and get to know you whenever they had time. That personal touch really made a difference.
Milo: Yeah, I’d agree. To give you an example, I asked for a whisky sour after dinner on the first night, and every night from then they asked me if I’d like one, just after the plates were cleared. To not only remember what I wanted to drink, but when I’d like it, was pretty special.
And how was the entertainment on board?
Milo: Excellent. They had a couple of special guests, a violinist and a singer, who happened to be a married couple. The onboard entertainment team were strong too, with their own shows covering rock ’n’ roll, ’70s and ’80s classics.
And what were the performance spaces like on the ship?
Jack: I really liked the evenings in the lounges, where the orchestra or live band would play sets like the “Swinging Sixties.” Normally in the theatre, they’re a bit hidden, so this gave them their own spotlight, which I thought was brilliant.
That sounds like a fantastic idea. Were there any public spaces that stood out for you?
Milo: The dining was the highlight for me. Regent’s specialty restaurants are always a favourite. The main dining room is good, but it can get a bit repetitive, so the variety in the specialities adds that extra touch.
Which specialty restaurant impressed you the most?
Both: The Asian restaurant!
Milo: It was called Pacific Rim, and we could’ve easily eaten in there every night.
Jack: Hands down. Regent lets you order as much as you like. We ended up getting five or six dishes and sharing them around the table. The food was excellent.
Finally, if you had to pick one highlight beyond the dining, what would it be?
Jack: One of the shore excursions in Belfast really stood out. We went to an Irish bar for live folk music, just a two-piece band, but they also explained the history behind the songs and instruments. It’s not something I’d have done on my own, but it gave such an authentic insight into local culture. That kind of unique, destination-specific experience really made the trip special.

Surabaya, Indonesia
While there is admittedly more to do in Bali than Surabaya, this Indonesian gem isn’t without its charm. Check out the largest bridge in Southeast Asia, or dive into the city’s religious melting pot with the pagoda-style Cheng Hoo Mosque or the ornately designed Buddhist temple, Sanggar Agung.

Day 1
Sydney, Australia
We’d suggest getting here at least a day early. Jet lag is easier to deal with when you’re sitting by the harbour with a flat white in hand. Sydney is one of those cities that actually lives up to the hype. Justask anyone who’s been. Sailboats on turquoise water, that Opera House silhouette, and a ferry system that doubles as a sightseeing tour. Wander The Rocks, dip into Bondi, and watch the sun set behind the Harbour Bridge.
Day 2
Eden, Australia
Day 3
A good day to sleep in, hit the spa, and let someone bring you lunch. The sea does the sightseeing for you. Australia | Sydney to Sydney
Day 4
Melbourne, Australia
Hip, caffeinated, and unapologetically cool. Get lost in the laneways or take the tram to St. Kilda for cake by the beach. If you’ve got energy to spare, wine country and the Great Ocean Road are calling.
Day 5 Day 6
Small town, big views. Eden sits on the Sapphire Coast, which is exactly as pretty as it sounds. Make sure you try the oysters here, they’ll put the ones on Camden Market to shame. The Killer Whale Museum is interesting enough, but the real star is the clifftops of Ben Boyd National Park.
Cruising the Bass Strait
Day 7
Phillip Island, Australia
Koalas in the treetops, seals on the rocks, and at dusk, the famous Penguin Parade. Phillip Island is a complete cuteness overload.
Portland, Australia
Part fishing town, part living museum. After the futuristic cool of Melbourne, Portland feels a million miles (and years) away. Stroll past bluestone buildings and watch the fishing boats unload their catch. Life moves at a slightly slower pace here, so take the opportunity to recharge your batteries.
Cruising the Tasman Sea
Christmas at sea? Yes please. Expect champagne, seafood, and zero washing up.
Sydney

Hobart, Tasmania
Tasmania is a bit of a ‘room of requirement’, in that whatever you’re looking for, you’ll find it here. There’s Salamanca Market for artisan treasures, MONA for the weird and wonderful, and Mount Wellington for the views.
Cruising the Tasman Sea
More deck time, more ocean views, more “I could get used to this.”
Sydney, Australia
Spend the final two days back in Sydney. Maybe it’s another ferry ride, maybe it’s fish and chips at Manly, maybe it’s just sitting on a rooftop with a drink, staring at the skyline you’ll be dreaming about on the flight home.
