A MENSAGEM DO PRESIDENTE … / THE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE…
Outubro de 2019 Estimados sócios: Chegamos ao último trimestre de 2019 e é neste boletim que eu vos envio um adeus na capacidade de Presidente do Portuguese American Cultural Center. A Direcção actual, no meio de muitos problemas desencorajadores, sempre tentou fazer o seu melhor ao longo do ano. Comentários falsos ou “fake news” é algo com que nós temos que viver no dia de hoje, não só na política mas também na gerência deste clube, para conseguir manter as portas abertas desta nossa segunda casa. Muitos são os dias que não podemos diferenciar entre a nossa primeira casa(família) e a segunda casa(clube), uma vez que muito do nosso tempo é passado a abrir as portas para entregas, compras para a comida, limpeza e armazenamento de produtos, mesmo enquanto o clube está fechado e sem serviço. E depois as horas em que está aberto para todo o serviço: barman, servindo almoços, jantares, eventos e práticas de uma maneira ou outra. Isso, meus amigos, é um trabalho ingrato, 365 dias do ano, e com um horário mais longo do que um trabalho normal. Quando chegamos a Outubro, a maioria dos voluntários estão simplesmente cansados e exaustos, muitas vezes com conflitos e faltas de paciência. O nosso tempo pessoal ou para as nossas famílias é sempre de corrida, pela simples razão que temos as nossas responsabilidades para com o clube e os sócios. Todo o nosso trabalho tem sido feito pelo melhor das nossas possibilidades e para o bem do nosso amado PACC, talvez não da maneira que cada um de vocês gostaria, mas, no entanto, foi feito o melhor possível olhando às circunstâncias. Agora peço-vos caros sócios, para serem conscientes e agradáveis, para com o próximo órgão directivo deste clube. Seja voluntário, não espere que alguém o chame, dê um pouco do seu tempo para uma das muitas tarefa necessárias, escolha aquela que você gostaria. E mais uma vez, obrigado a todos aqueles que nos ajudaram durante este ano. Bem hajam!
October 2019 Dear Members: We have arrived at the last trimester of 2019 and it is with this newsletter that I say goodbye to all of you in my capacity as President of the Portuguese American Cultural Center. The Board of Directors amid many discouraging problems and finger pointing has tried to do their utmost best throughout the year. Fake news is something we must live with these days, whether in politics or trying to do our jobs managing and maintaining the doors open of our second home. Many are the days that we cannot differentiate between our 1st home(family) and the 2nd home (the club), since so much of our time is spent opening doors for deliveries, shopping for food, cleaning and storing items even while the club is closed for service. And then, there are the remaining times when it is open for service, bartending, serving lunches, dinners, events and practices of one kind or another. This, my friends, is a thankless job, 365 days of the year and when we get to October, most volunteers are simply tired and exhausted. Time for ourselves and our families is always spent on the run, because of our responsibilities to the club. All is done to the best of our abilities and for the betterment of our beloved PACC, maybe not the way each one of you would like, but nevertheless all was done to the best of OUR abilities. So, I ask you dear members, to please, be kind to whoever will be volunteering to the next governing body of this club. Volunteer, don’t wait for someone to call you, volunteer your time for whatever task you would like. Once again, thank you to those who have made it their priority to help us during this year.
