Hey! So, in case you didn’t know, famous comedic actor, Eddie Murphy, has gone back into music! Yes, we said ‘back’ because he actually had been in the industry earlier in his overall journey as a celebrity.

It is a good feeling to know that Reggae music is so loved, and Eddie Murphy doing Reggae expresses this. Reggae music is going to be taken to the next level and it is a great look.

At first, I was a little skeptical because it just seemed sudden, and it was on the heels of Snoop Dogg becoming Snoop Lion. But I guess I can say he’s working himself in nicely. Let’s see.

So, now..this song is called - Lutan Fyah ‘Red Light’ and of course, it’s featuring newly converted artiste, Snoop Lion (well, Snoop Dogg...the change still If he wants to do it, let I think he just needed hasn’t settled in just yet) So the song has a different feel, but we can definitely say that it doesn’t feel like when other individuals try to impersonate a Reggae artiste or a Jamaican in general with the ‘Irie” or the “Yeh Mon”... He’s actually got a nice flow. But hey, don’t take our word for it. Let’s hear what others had to say..

him do it! Let’s see what he brings to the table before we write him off. Fact is, music is dynamic; this is his interpretation of Reggae.

L.L., 21

something else to do, actually. Maybe this is just a phase, because we haven’t seen him in movies for a minute! - Kim, 21

What? Why was I not aware of this? Well, I normally enjoy everything that Eddie does, so let’s hope there’s a new flavour that he’ll add that will let me enjoy Reggae more; an American flavour, that is. - Kayla, 22

Bryan, 24

I’m not surprised. Everyone wants to be associated with something Jamaian. Especially the music. Kerry, 19

Lutan Fyah’s ‘Life of a King’ currently number 4 on ITunes!

Lutan Fyah has released, worldwide, his much anticipated album entitled, ‘Life of a King’. The 13 track album was released on the 10th of September, with the accomplishment of having ‘Life of a King’ being his 10th album. The album offers a compelling blend of conscious reggae tracks fused with elements of other genres including Hip Hop, R& B and Jazz. ‘Life of a King’ is the concept of producer Khabir ‘Kabs’ Bonner who aims to bridge the gap between these genres and other creative concepts. All of the tracks on the album are produced and mixed by Kabs himself, and feature special guest artistes, Chronixxx for the track Can’t Do We Nothing as well as Protect the youth which features Mr Lexx. The title track, Life of a King is number five on the album and since its release, has been breaking the airwaves, receiving tremendous acclaim and heavy rotations on both local and international radio. Lutan Fyah, currently represented by ReaLife PR & Bookings, has enjoyed some overwhelming responses, especially on the international scene, having built a fan base by means of various tours in addition to the constant flow of innovative tracks.

There is no doubt that this album will not only continue to be well received, but will go down in history as one of the greats. “Life of a King” captures the true musical spirit of reggae but with a hint of other influential types of music. The reggae sensation, who is known for hits such as, ‘St Jago De La Vega,” “No wah Settle Down” had this to say about the upcoming album.

For bookings and other media relations, contact:

“The originality of the album is what will make an impact; the music is fresh and new and you will see Lutan Fyah in a different light”

Real Life PR & Bookings (realifepr@gmail.com)

“The king” is also in preparation for his upcoming tour to promote this album. The tour is set for October/November where he will be making appearances in a number of popular European territories. ____ With that said, we want to definitely wish him well for his upcoming tour and congratulate him on a job well done on the album. Of course, we couldn’t get enough, so continue flipping through as Lutan is also our ‘Main Squeeze’ for this issue.

MUSIC SPOTLIGHT:

x x i n o Chr

PAJE always aims to recognize the outstanding work of individuals in the Jamaican society and showcase the fruit of their endeavours.

We want to congratulate Chronixx for his exceptional entry into the Jamaican music industry. He took the place by storm! For a while, every where you went you heard his songs blearing or at least heard someone mention his name, if they weren’t doing their own renditions of his songs. His hardhitting sound brings forth a Dancehall/Reggae fusion of sorts; almost reminding you of other reggae ambassadors like Damian Marley and I-Octane whose styles are quite distinct, providing a signature sound, but have the ability to transform and bring you a different feel for every song. The Jamaican massive has seemingly has had no qualms to “Welcome Chronixx” to the reggae stage. That said, we have to say that our favourite Chrnoixx song thus far is ‘Smile Jamaica’. His metaphoric use of Jamaica far outweighs the common talk about countries, referring to them as ‘she/her’. He skillfully acknowledges Jamaica for beauty, and almost serenades her with the melody of the song. If you haven’t heard it yet, feel free to check it out. A nice reggae song to make you proud to be Jamaican.

y e l i R s Tarru

Can we just leave his name right there and let you think about the dynamic artiste Tarrus Riley is? Alright, we won’t make it that easy for you. We want to really acknowledge the great work Tarrus has always done in pushing positivity into the society through his music. From his rythmic first hit, ‘She’s Royal’, to other contagious hits, Tarrus Riley’s consistency has landed him in our spotlight for this issue. Song after song; hit after hit, Tarrus has been able to cause the Jamaican family to swoon with each note he sings. Even if it’s not necessarily his ‘easy-on-the-ear’ voice, his lyrics just speak to the hearts and the minds of his listeners. His distinct sound makes it possible to be walking by a store and be able to say, “Yes, that’s Tarrus Riley,” and that is brilliant. Our favourite song for him currently is “Gimme Likkle One Drop”. Can we tell you, the title itself puts a smile on your face as a Jamaican. Which other country can identify with the significance of ‘One Drop’? The song gives a great, relaxing Reggae vibe, and captures the passion that Jamaicans really have for Reggae; yes, music in general, but there’s something about the subtle but hard-to-misss thump of the Reggae riddim. We could go on and on, but we just want to congratulate him on his journey thus far and wish him well for his future, ‘cause we’re looking forward to it!

Portland Invasion Our first stop was at the Errol Flynn Marina for a history check-point, some posing (for pictures, of course) and an enthusiastic roll in the grass to spell out “C J A”. Ackee and Saltfish, Steamed fish, boiled plantain, yam, banana, dumpling and fever grass tea(or lemon grass to the more “urban” among us) marked the beginning of another AWESOME tour by C Ja Tours. Finger-and-lip lickin’ food made sure no one would be low on energy as we began the trek to invade Portland, Jamaica. Liguanea, Half-Way Tree, Constant Spring, Golden Spring and on through to Tom’s River – we were in St Mary now!! Driving around the Junction then on to Annotto Bay and into Portland. we surveyed the beautiful hilly interior then came down to the breath-taking coast along the many bays of Portland.

Heading back to the Blue Lagoon, we got a geography lesson telling us why the lagoon was the colour it was, why the temperature of the water alternated between warm and cold, and why the lagoon is considered The itching that followed was a price they “bottom-less”. did NOT expect to pay, but that’s why we love our ‘tourists’!! Cruising in (like bosses!) After the lesson, “Tarzan” and “Jane” swung at Blue Lagoon, we raced to change and around on a rope over the lagoon, splashjumped onto the boats that would take us ing around in the clear water for awhile bearound the lagoon and on to Monkey Island fore being taken to the “Healing Stream” for our Treasure Hunt and Island Discovery. to wash off the stress of life and the hurt of heartache while others went Some took the exploration WAAY serious bamboo-rafting. and climbed up and marched over the i sland through the foliage to see what’s on Lunch was the order of the hour, and we the other side – and what a treat it was! pulled in to Boston Jerk Centre with empty The azure Caribbean Sea took their breath bellies waiting to be filled and salivating away! mouths desiring the famous victuals. PEOPLE...

sometimes prevent themselves from achieving their goals in life because they’re too afraid to face their fears; to break free, really. But, what do you have to lose? Embrace your life..enhance it as best as possible..and just keep moving forward!

Hello, lovies.

Welcome to the very first, ENHANCE. I am so excited to get the opportunity to write to you all every month. I have soooo much in store for you all. Thanks in advance for lending me your eyes but more importantly, your minds. Firstly, I’d like to tell you a little about what you can expect from me monthly. ENHANCE is all about lifestyle and beauty. Now men lol, don’t be turned off by the word, “beauty”… to me “beauty” encompasses every element of human life… mind, body and spirit. Health is beautiful… wellness is beautiful… We are all beautiful in our own ways.

My dream for ENHANCE is for it to become a space for celebration. The tagline I’ve chosen, “Celebrate your own kind of beautiful” means, celebrate who you are, what you are and what you hope to become. Never let anything hold you back from your dreams and aspirations. Each month I will be celebrating US. Anything I feel will help to uplift either male or female and make you feel extra beautiful! In the coming months, I’d love to include an, “Ask Kimmy” feature where you can email or Facebook me questions about anything that’s on your mind, whether it be about love, style, health, school, ANYTHING which I’ll include (anonymously of course) and answer the best I can. It would be soooo much fun to hear from you all. I’m looking forward to our journey together. Excited for what the future holds. xoxo,

Kimmy

HOW DO YOU KNOW? I love reading things about relationships. Maybe it’s because I’m a girl or maybe it’s because I “like to know” but I will literally surf the net reading up about that stuff because at times you have to kinda “brush up”. It is my personal belief that the biggest struggle we can face is not “good but rather, “heart

vs. mind”.

vs. evil”

We can never know for sure or give reasons as to why we do the things we do for love, or fall for the one we fall for but one thing we do know and can attest to is love makes us do totally crazy things and completely clouds us. Nothing is wrong with being “head over heels” (I know I’ve been) but what we should be mindful of is how we love and who we give our love to… Is the person really worth it? I came across this story on the internet entitled, “How do I know if I am with the right person?” and I thought it was very poignant at the time I read it and decided to save it for such a time as this.

HOW DO YOU KNOW? During a seminar, a woman asked,

”How do I know if I am with the right person?” The author then noticed that there was a large man sitting next to her so he said, “It depends. Is that your partner?” In all seriousness, she answered “How do you know?... Let me answer this question because the chances are good that it’s weighing on your mind,” replied the author.

Here’s the answer: Every relationship has a cycle… In the beginning; you fall in love with your partner. You anticipate their calls, want their touch, and like their idiosyncrasies. Falling in love wasn’t hard. In fact, it was a completely natural and spontaneous experience. You didn’t have to DO anything. That’s why it’s called “falling

in love.”

People in love sometimes say,

"I was swept of my feet.”

Picture the expression. It implies that you were just standing there; doing nothing, and then something happened TO YOU. Falling in love is a passive and spontaneous experience. But after a few months or years of being together, the euphoria of love fades. It’s a natural cycle of EVERY relationship. Slowly but surely, phone calls become a bother (if they come at all), touch is not always welcome (when it happens), and your spouse’s idiosyncrasies, instead of being cute, drive you nuts.

The symptoms of this stage vary with every relationship; you will notice a dramatic difference between the initial stage when you were in love and a much duller or even angry subsequent stage. At this point, you and/or your partner might start asking, “Am I with the right person?” And as you reflect on the euphoria of the love you once had, you may begin to desire that experience with someoneelse. This is when relationships break down. Because (listen carefully to this):

The key to succeeding in a Relationship is not finding the right person; it’s learning to love the Person you found. SUSTAINING love is not a passive or spontaneous experience. You have to work on it day in and day out. It takes time, effort, and energy. And most importantly, it demands WISDOM. You have to know WHAT TO DO to make it work. Make no mistake about it. Love is NOT a mystery. There are specific things you can do (with or without your partner), Just as there are physical laws of the universe (such as gravity); there are also laws for relationships. If you know how to apply these laws, the results are predictable. Love is therefore “a

decision”. Not just a feeling.

Remember this always:

God determines who walks it into your life. It is up to you to decide who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let GO! #FoodForThought

INSIDE AND OUT

I don’t know about you but it has been extremely hot these past few months. I keep saying, if hell is this hot, My God I have to start living right! lol!! Now, more than ever, hydration is very important.

Drinking water has become part of my daily beauty regime. Not many persons see the importance of drinking water and most times, opt for a soft drink (which is an odd name to call something so drastically damaging to your stomach) or even an energy drink, like ‘Boom’. While those have their places, nothing beats the good ol’ H2O!! Water is great for skin, keeps you cool and it also helps build your mood when you feel refreshed. So drink up and live well.

This month, I am proud to introduce to you, “that special someone”, Damion Sterling, also known as, “Dj Shadezz”. He is a 22-year-old student at the University of Technology in Kingston, Jamaica and is slowly making a name for himself as a knowledgeable and competent spin master. He hails from the parish of St. Ann but it was when he came to Kingston that the “dj bug” bit him. He has done get-togethers, parties and functions… his star can only shine brighter.

What made you want to start deejaying? Music overall inspired me to start deejaying and the fact that people always complained about the djs not delivering what they came to hear. So that also motivated me to play.

Have you ever doubted your abilities or talents with What are some of the obstacles you’ve regard to deejaying? faced? I only doubt my abilities when I’m setting up to begin playing but when I’m playing I never doubt my abilities.

I have faced a lot of obstacles such as, my pc freezes, crowd not reacting to what I’m playing but as a dj u have to look beyond those and try to conquer or overpower those obstacles.

How long do you see yourself carrying on in this field? I don’t know where I see myself carrying this field but whenever I stop I’m glad I contributed towards the music industry and entertainment.

Do you have any advice for those who are trying to achieve their dreams? If you are passionate about something you love doing pursue it, persevere, be determined and confident and never doubt your abilities and talents.

Thanks for checking out the first ENHANCE, everyone! Looking forward to sharing with you in the next issue! Until then... Celebrate your own kind of beautiful!

A Night To Remember!

Jazz & Blues

On Sunday September 22, Rex Nettleford Hall on the campus of the University of the West Indies, Mona, held a Jazz and Blues concert which turned out to be a fabulous event! On the lips of patrons who had the privilege of attending the function, that night “Was Poppin!” PAJE saw outstanding performances from students and upcoming artistes alike, with the night then being embelished by an outstanding performance by Reggae band, Mystikal Revolution. The organizers of the event spared no effort in putting this night together, clearly, as it was not lacking in substance at all. Kudos to the performers and the organizers in playing their part in making Rex Hall’s Jazz & Blues a night to remember!

ADVENTURES...

begin when you decide to pursue something different. Nothing’s wrong with doing things out of the ordinary at times.

So PAJE had the opportunity to meet Lutan Fyah amid the release of his album 'Life of a King' which is currently number four on ITunes! In fine PAJE style, we decided to take things a little further than just hearing about his expected success with the album. In getting to know him, we realized how laid back he really was; he's quite focused and content with what he does. Granted, we, at no point, want to imply that he has it easy..but you see, when your state of mind is in the right place...your quality of life automatically improves. That said, he reminds us that we should really try to pursue what our hearts desire, and ensure that we stick to that path..no matter what the road brings! We wanted to meet the man behind the music, really. So, let us dive in together!

~~~~~~
What is a day like in the life of Lutan Fyah? Most of my day surrounds music; thinking about music and making music or I would be chilling...
Yes, music was my first passion. From i was young, I’ve been in love with music.
Football has always been one of my passions. I appreciate good values too: like respecting your elders and expressing courtesy.
Yes, in some aspects, although i have always been doing this side of music. My intention is to reach out to a broader audience, so my music can attract different types of music lovers.
‘Life of a King’ is my favorite song.
They can expect a more musical Lutan Fyah on this album
The album is available online via ITunes and physical copies can be ordered directly from Grillaras Productions [Facebook] page.
I will be in St Croix soon for promotion.
Some of the places I will be going to in Europe are France, Germany, Italy and Holland
I cant even decide, but I love performing in Europe overall, the crowd always loves me.
To me, it means you have to be yourself and live life the way you want to live it.
Thanks Lutan!
Fam, remember to support him in his musical endeavours!
Yes fam, we’re still in our right minds. Now these two movies, ‘The Conjuring’ (2013) and ‘The Exorcism of Emily Rose’ (2005) are two really creepy movies...to say the least. But from the get go, we’re going to dub The Exorcism of Emily Rose (ER) the scarier of the two. But, let’s still compare it to The Conjuring (TC).
Well, firstly...we want to understand why both these movies have the creepiest trees you could find. But, we digress...Back on track now.. Story line: Family moves to a place in the middle of nowhere for a new start and ends up regretting it. That explained, The Conjuring had more explanations we’ll say. You had a history, you had motif, you had the victim/vessel, you had your foolish charaters, you had the freaky music that made your heart go thumpity thump thump, you had the strange noises (Oh this clap clap thing was NOT pretty at all!), you had the creepy doll that reminded us of Chucky from Childsplay (nice touch -_-), you had the sudden movements ...and of course, you had the creepy house that you wouldn’t ever want to find in real life. With all those elements, the movie was nicely knitted together..giving you those great opportunities to tap some unassuming individual on the shoulder or clap from a distance when they’re alone. But, hmmm..was it too clean? Sometimes, you want your movies to throw you off a little and even after it ends, leave you wondering what you really just watched. By the end of this movie, we felt satisfied..but a tad disappointed because the preview really built up our expectiations in addition to its ‘refreshing horror’. But, you know what, it’s still a good watch.
As for ER now...this one threw you off completely. Up to now, we still don’t understand why hey, Emily was the target of this spiritual attack. Story line: This God-fearing young woman gets a great opportunity to fly out and further her education. And one night, everything goes wrong and her life is changed forever...without her willfully lifting a finger. Without spoiling it for those who haven’t watched it, we can acknowledge that you had twists on each typical element. You had the victim/vessel who actually wasn’t foolish...she did jus salt (for our non Jamaican readers... it’s like she was just meant to be in that awful predicament), as for the music...bwoi, we can’t even recall the music based on how eventful the movie’s scenes were. You honestly spend most of your time watching the movie with your jaw dropped in awe of the horror. To go on, you did have explanations actually...but this actually acted as the narration for the movie, which was actually quite brilliant, as this also created different sub-plots to almost tickle your mind when Emily’s torturing became a bit too hot to handle for viewers. You had the strange noises, the strange movements, the strange voices..the strange phenomena (all coming from her by the way...just thought we’d slip that in there), you had the concerned family, you had the Sleepy Hollow looking fog, you had the house in the middle of nowhere, and you also had the female protagonist turned antagonist just like TC. Now...we’ve deliberately just outlined elements of the shows that we believe were the distinctive ones to make them the creepy shows they were. But The Exorcism of Emily Rose takes the cake. But, maybe you didn’t find either one of them scary..or maybe we’ve inspired you to check them out yourselves. Feel free to give us feedback on our Facebook page! Cee ya later!
QUESTION: BLACKBERRY, IOS, ANDROID OR WINDOWS PHONE? What kind of question is that? Android of course! More freedom, more innovation...it’s just fits me. Mi like it. - Greg, 25
iOs for sure. Have to be decked out in ma iOS devices. So of course, I have an Ipod Touch, IPhone, IPad, and a MacBook.... no, it’s not too much, each has their purpose. - Owen, 31
Just an update: So, Blackberry Messenger was leaked on the Android platform earlier this week; of course inspiring a lot of individuals to download the app. In keeping up-to-date with the creators themselves, they have implored persons to not download this app as it carries a lot of viruses with it, so if you haven’t heard that...maybe you should just take the warning... It’s interesting to see, though, just how much things are playing out for Blackberry; being sold for just 4.7 billion dollars to a private company in Canada. With the agreement to make Blackberry Messenger available on all smartphone platforms, it placed the once cherished brand in a weird position. Granted, you’ll always have the name of the app being ‘Blackberry Messenger’ which therefore leaves a stamp in the minds of persons. At the same time... making the app open slightly reduced the value of the platform itself. Nevertheless, we’re not going to pretend that 4.7 billion dollars is a lil bit of money. So kudos to all parties involved.
Give me my good ole Blackberry. It’s not that I don’t rate the others, it’s just that I’ve gotten so comfortable with the Blackberry concept and feel that moving on feels so difficult..even though I know Blackberry soon gone.
You would never believe this, but I think I’m starting to really rate the Windows Phone platform. My cousin got one of the Nokias for me the other day and it feels so easy to use and different. Yeah man, I’d definitely recommend it.
LIVE A LIL! You see, we say we want to go on these wild adventures...but sometimes, we don’t let go mentally, and that prevents us from thoroughly enjoying life itself! Take life seriously, but learn to let go so you can truly appreciate it and the various
JOURNEYS
LIFE IS LIKE THAT At times when we think we’re at a standstill, we truly aren’t. The truth is that some things are so colossal, and take so much effort and time, that the progress seems non-existent. Life is like that. A six hour flight is no walk in the park. Was it so, one would simply have taken a walk. There are roads we get lost on in order to find our way; find ourselves. And even when we know this, we can’t help but panic at times when we find that we are lost. Life is like that. We aren’t perfect. And that’s more reason to smile than to mope. There’s no bettering perfection and that means perfection is merely a glorified stagnant state; complimented complacency. No, thank you. So though things may seem to be at a standstill, keep your eyes open. Little things take you places and little people go places. Life is like that. It’s better to be a tortoise creeping than a hare sleeping.
A THING OR TWO ABOUT LIFE Life at times is quite confusing, But it’s fair to say at times it’s quite amusing. It changes every now and then. It’s so spontaneous you never know when, It will led to fun or lead to tears, But we still gain wisdom throughout the years. And no matter how wise we may get, When it comes to life, it’s unwise to bet. For no matter just how much we know, There’s always something not done; somewhere else to go. One should realize every time they somehow earn, That there is so much more for them to learn. Every door that’s opened leads to many more. Life is a never ending scenic tour. Some sights are genuine while some are fake. And there are also pictures for one to take. Remember, always pay keen attention, To what others may do and what they may mention. Everyone has some lessons that they can teach, Whether or not it has to do with action, thought, or speech. So no matter how old, young, big or small, We are both teachers and students one and all.
LOSE YOURSELF IN THE MUSIC Sometimes we just have to close our eyes and feel the music so we can better hear it. ..... Lose yourself in the music. Bob your heads, Sway from side to side, Tap your feet, Snap your fingers. Hear there? The sweet notes carrying across the room? They’ve already taken your cares away. So, Lutan, what is your favourite Jamaican dish? My favorite Jamaican dish is ackee, with dumpling and green bananas and yam.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED: 1. 1/2 lb Saltfish (dried, salted codfish) 2. 12 fresh ackees or 1 (drained) can of tinned ackees 3. 1 medium onion 4. 1/2 tsp black pepper 5. 3 tbsp of butter 6. 1/2 a hot chilli pepper (ideally Scotch Bonnet) 7. 1 sweet pepper 8. 1 chopped tomato 9. 1 sprig fresh thyme or 1 tsp dried thyme In case you didn’t know, Ackee and Saltfish is Jamaica’s National Dish. So, this is quite fitting for our first issue, huh? Note, if you’re adventurous, you can throw in your own sets of ingredients. Health tip though, be careful with the butter (or oil, if you choose) because ackee has its own oils, so you could run the risk of going overboard...and nothing is worse than seeing and tasting your ackee swimming in oil. Oh also, please ENSURE that if you’re using the actual ackees to make your dish (which we prefer to the tinned version), you PICK OUT ALL THE PINK STUFF! Do NOT run the risk of leaving it in there! That lightly said, we like making our ackee pretty ‘natural’ with some extra seasoning, so feel free to throw in a lil oregano and parsley flakes, and nothing’s wrong with a lil garlic to help settle your stomach as well as escallion to add that extra kick!
METHOD STEP 1: Bring a pan of cold water to the boil and gently simmer the fish for 20 minutes (until the fish is tender or until the salt is a little less potent...just depends on the intensity of the flavour you want). STEP 2: Chop the onion, sweet pepper, chilli pepper (or scotch bonnet) and tomato (as well as the garlic and escallion). STEP 3: Remove the fish from water and allow to cool (you can speed up this process by placing it in a suitably-sized bowl of cool water). STEP 4: Remove all of bones and skin then flake the flesh of the fish (tearing it up into bite-sized pieces) STEP 5: Melt the butter in a frying pan and stir fry the onion, black pepper, sweet pepper, chilli and thyme for about 3 minutes (with your garlic, escallion, oregano and parsley flakes..but the dry seasoning can also be added when you add the ackee..but you’re going to want to build the flavour first, really) STEP 6: Add the tomatoes and flaked fish and stir-fry for another 10 minutes (you add the tomatoes at this point because you don’t really want your tomatoes to become really soggy because of extensive exposure to the heat. At this point, you’re almost finished cooking). STEP 7: Add the Ackee and cook until hot throughout. Stir gently to avoid breaking-up the Ackee. And there you have it!
