‘‘New Year…Old Patterns?” It’s a new year! Gone with the old and in with the new, welcome to 2023 kingdomites! I am sure many of you have already made the new year’s resolutions, done your vision board party and are tackling those new goals with passion and zeal in anticipation of what this year 2023 may bring.

of grandeur and change, but we can easily fall into the rut of old patterns quick if we don’t check those heart meters and patterns.

For many of us with each new year, we start off strong but by the time we get to the middle of the year we fall into the cycle of old patterns and that zeal we had at the It’s always fun starting anything new, and we beginning soon fades into familiar territories always have expectations of dread, regret and failure.

2 But this year doesn’t have to be like the others; we can intentionally step into this year and conquer like the bosses we are. Here are some simple ways to break cycles and patterns to truly have a ‘NEW’ year experience.

BE INTENTIONAL every change begins with intention. It’s not enough to want change but you must work towards it. Be deliberate this year with some decisions, circles, habits, investments etc. Ensure that every little thing is working together for your overall success and well being. It is the little things after all that has the greatest impact in the end. This may mean discomfort, tough conversations and cutting ties with familiar places and people to ensure that you are the best version of yourself that you can be. It’s not a time to compromise but to aim and knock out each life target. You got this!

BE SELF-AWARE Pay attention this year. What is your body saying? Maybe you need a change in diet to have more energy and longevity. What is your mind saying? Maybe you need to start your day off with some affirmations and self talks. What is your heart saying? Maybe you need some intervention, counselling, help to release and remove whatever hurts your heart. This year take no prisoners, not even yourself. Life will happen, but you must know what makes you tick, what you respond to and what to ignore. Be aware of how your mind, body, heart works and spend the time, money, effort to ensure you’re ok for real for real.

CANDICIA ASHMAN, Columnist

BE PATIENT - WITH YOURSELF! God gives you 365 days for a reason, slow down if you need to, rest when you need to, decompress and chill; be patient with yourself and don’t compare yourself with others and what they are doing. You are in your own lane, in your own race! Run with grace. I hope these tools will help you on your journey this year! It doesn’t have to be same ole, same ole, the cycle can break, and the pattern can change for your good.

6 WAYS TO GROW INTO A BETTER YOU Pray for Direction Yes, you’ve heard it a thousand times, but there IS someone waiting on your obedience and your stepping out of your comfort zone and doing what you need to do consciously (or unconsciously) sends a signal to those around you to do the same. So, what are some ways to ensure our personal development journey is not aborted. Look at the tips!

“And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” - Isaiah 30:21

Some of the times you may be unclear on the path you should take. You know you desire more, but somehow the way to get there still seems muddy. As a Christian be reminded that you have access to the Holy Spirit. He lives inside you and is a guide. Why not take him up on that offer? Ask Him what your next steps should be. Express to him the desires of your heart (if you’re yielded to Him chances are, He put them there) and ask, “How do I approach this?” I wish I could say that you will hear a loud booming voice from heaven to confirm. Doesn’t quite happen like that. The answer may come from an impression, a conversation from a friend or sometimes that answer will come from taking that first step of faith to do that thing that’s on your heart.

Invest in Yourself “Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.” Proverbs 22:29

Even though you may have raw talent, it still needs to be processed and developed. Don’t sell yourself short on this part of the journey. In different seasons of your life investing in yourself may look differently. It could be as time and money intensive as getting a Coach or it could mean getting on YouTube, Google and listening to Podcasts to increase your knowledge in an area of interest. This will require discipline to put yourself on a schedule, especially if you are using “free” material. What helps with this is getting a clear understanding (and emotional attachment) too why you want to get this done in the first place. Without it you just won’t put in the work.

Take Fast Action “I hasten and do not delay keeping your commandments.” Psalm 119:60

Overthinking is where dreams do die. To get any kind of traction out of your personal development journey you must DO SOMETHING! Don’t get stuck in analysis paralysis. If you do, you’ll end up at the end of the year in the same pile of regret you did last year because you would not have moved the needle closer to your goals. Small, consistent action over time wins. Once you have implemented my previous points get out there and just start. Even if you fall, dust yourself off and try again. There are many blessings that God has in store for you on this side of heaven. However, I firmly believe that some of us delay those blessings because we are lax in increasing our capacity to be able to properly steward those blessings. Don’t be the reason you don’t experience all that God has for you. Don’t play small and don’t allow fear to beat you into submission either. You’ve got this!

9 Things You Can Do to Take Care of Your Mental Health The past two - three years (and even before that) have seen some of the most intense, challenging and confusing things happening in our lives, our societies and our world. So, it's no surprise that more of us are having challenges in relation to our mental health which is nothing to be ashamed of.

We know there are varying challenges that we all may be having but we created a list that can at least help you to take care of your mental health. Here are a few ways to take care of your mental wellbeing:

Unplugging With all that is happening in the world such as never ending crime, violence, natural disasters, sickness, poverty etc it is good to take a break and unplug from all of this. While its good to keep abreast of all that is happening sometimes it can be too much. This also applies to unplugging from social media.

10

Taking Care of yourself at a scheduled time

Limiting & Stressors

When you feel and look your best you are able to function better.

If ever the idea of 'boundaries' made you feel 'mean', it's time to shake that feeling and be about that life.

This entails eating well, incorporating exercise frequently, resting, reading your bible, taking vacations and days off from work, indulging in self-care routines.

Managing

Known

Whether it's a person, an organization, a habit, or something of the sort, it's time to wean yourself from that thing if you know that your body is actually reacting negatively and you have multiple, associated emotional triggers.

Incorporating Journaling into Your Weekly Routune

Set yourself free from as many of these as possible.

You'll find that the ability to release your emotions without the addition of your speaking voice allows for a unique type of peace, and gives you space to sort through your thoughts and emotions a lot better.

Do the Things You Love; Travel, Reading, Songwriting, Knitting, you name it

Journaling can come in many formswhether video vlogs, writing, recorded memos, etc. Whichever feels most natural and effective for you.

Sometimes, simple joys can bring the level of peace and release that we didn't know we needed. It's time to allow yourself to experience that.

Seek Help Sometimes, we get to a place where we feel trapped by our own thoughts and emotions and when that happens, we begin to spiral in ways we would have never expected. One of the best things you can do for yourself is to seek help whether professionally or from an unbiased/objective party who has your best interest at heart. Sometimes, the very fact that someone is willing to hear you out without judgment makes the world of a difference.

Give Yourself Grace Not beating yourself up over not reaching a goal or milestone in the time you wanted. Recognizing that by being consistent and committing your plans to God, you will achieve and receive all that He has in store for you. Stop the comparisons. We all have our unique path in life and it's important for us to embrace our own.

Catch Up with Friends & Family Who Mean You Well Yes, we added on that last part because we will never take anyone's family situation for granted. If you have the privilege of knowing a few friends or family members who truly mean you well, work on making the effort to keep the connection and nurture a healthy relationship. Maybe this looks like a dinner outing once a quarter or paintballing every now and then. Whatever you choose to do - be intentional.

Date Yourself & Learn to Prioritize YOU This is primarily linked to your self-love and selfacceptance, journeys. Learn about yourself. Love on yourself. Allow yourself to feel, to dream, to love and to live while being fair to yourself and recognizing your power and importance.

We truly hope that these tips help you on your own journey of effectively nurturing yourself so that you can put the best YOU forward.

The Worst Relationship Advice EVER

THE FOUNDATION The Burj Khalifa located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is the world’s tallest building. With a total height of 829.8 m (2,722 ft, just over half a mile). For this building to be this tall and stand without toppling over because of the fierce dessert winds that blow against it, it not only needs to be aerodynamically designed, but it also needs a world class foundation. The Burj Khalifa’s foundation is over 45,000 m3 of concrete, weighing over 110,000 tonnes, configured as 192 piles buried over 50 m (164 ft) below the earth’s surface. Its main purpose is to support the weight of the building above. If there is a flaw in the foundation, the possible result would be beyond catastrophic. The Burj Khalifa that hosts hotels, restaurants and stores that serve thousands of people daily would collapse.

COLUMN

13 WITH DARREN SALMON

14 Just as a building requires a firm and deep foundation to go high, so does your relationship. For people to feel safe living in the Burj Khalifa they need assurance that no hurricane or earthquake will bring it crashing down. The engineers, architects, masons, carpenters and other construction workers had to design and build the building with the elements of nature in mind. Therefore, the foundation of your relationship must be built with knowledge and understanding of the elements that may cause your relationship to collapse. Now most of us go into romantic relationships purely on the basis that we are attracted to the other person. We don’t typically give much thought to the foundation especially in the early stages. Then when the winds come against our building it topples over. Many people at this point are left confused and befuddled because they remember how amazing their partner was at first and now it seems they just can’t get back to that happy place. If the foundation that the relationship was built on had faults because of a lack of understanding. Then it is possible to conclude that the ingredients the couple used were probably structural and not foundational. Structural ingredients include love languages, gender roles, date nights, baecations, money and physical attraction. This all can help push the building toward the sky. But they all suck as foundational ingredients.

The Ingredients of a Healthy Relationship The foundation of a relationship is often not thought about until after the relationship has already begun. This means we usually put the cart before the horse. While this may seem counter intuitive it’s actually not a huge problem. The couple just needs to pause to discuss their foundation and come to an understanding of each other’s highest values. The aim of this discussion is for the couple to get on the same page regarding the ingredients. For a high reaching, long lasting, happy and fruitful relationship I recommend the following foundational ingredients: 1) Unconditional Love 2) Intimacy 3) Friendship 4) Unwavering commitment 5) Jesus Christ (The Bible) These ingredients combined produces a foundation just as solid as the Burj Khalifa’s. Each of you reading this article may interpret these words differently. However, without the correct interpretation these words will be of no assistance to you.

So, I’m going to explain the meaning behind them. Honestly, each of these ingredients are full-length article topics. So, in the interest of my word limit I’ll briefly introduce each. In future articles I’ll go into deeper detail regarding their importance.

Unconditional Love Now you may not agree with what I’m about to say. But I’m speaking from the basis of my experience. Keep in mind this is the worst relationship advice ever. The only love there is, is unconditional love. It may be expressed in many ways, but the basis of every loving action needs to be unconditional. Otherwise, it is transactional and that can get messy unless the terms and conditions were previously discussed and agreed upon. Now, if you don’t want your relationship to feel like business more than pleasure then I recommend unconditional love. To love unconditionally is to choose to give loving actions to your partner regardless of how they look, what they think, how you feel, or what they may have done or not done. It is to detach your emotions and their actions as influencers on your love.

16 That sounds impossible, doesn’t it? I mean all our lives we have allowed our emotions to be the main influencer of how we love and who we love. Matter of fact, the feeling of love has been the main thing used to define what love is for most people. However, if you read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 you’ll see there is no point in that scripture where love is described as a feeling. As a matter of fact, I have yet to find 1 scripture that describes love as a feeling in the entire Bible.

Embracing the Bible’s definition of love will allow you to appreciate just how painful love is. This will detach you from the Disney fairy tale notion that love is sweet and always wonderful. This new understanding will come in clutch when your relationship faces turmoil from within either because of you or your partner. Being able to maintain kindness toward the person who offends us the most is emotional maturity at its peak. As I said in my previous article.

“We need to recognize our own fallibility as If you are a Christian, I believe the main thing humans and become so accepting of it that we influencing your definition of love should be effortlessly extend grace to the fallibility of the Bible, not an RnB song or a romantic others.” I will surely dive deeper into this comedy, I’m just saying. ingredient in future articles.

Intimacy Now when I say intimacy, I know your brain most likely thinks about sex, kissing, massages or holding hands. But no, physical intimacy is only a subsection of intimacy as a whole. I wouldn’t consider it foundational not even to a romantic relationship. When I say intimacy, I mean to know and be fully known. To achieve true intimacy is to be always open, honest and transparent with your partner about your past and present. This means both of you need to tell each other everything even the bad and ugly things. Even the things we know are going to hurt the other person emotionally. However, intimacy must be built slowly and in stages. This is because we all come into our relationships with our own prejudices. Without knowing the hang ups of your partner, you can over share. If they are not mentally prepared to process and accept your truth especially the ugly parts, this can do more harm than good. The first thing to establish when seeking to build intimacy is a zone of zero judgement.

It is important to most people that the person who is closest to them maintains a good perception of them, trusting that even behind the mistakes and the ugly traits there is a good heart that yearns to love and be loved. I will surely go deeper into intimacy in future articles.

Friendship Growing up I used the word ‘friend’ very loosely. Once someone was in the same group, class, team or club as me I considered them a friend. Adulthood taught me quickly that just because you happen to be near someone else that doesn’t mean they are your friend. They may just be your classmate or teammate, co-worker or acquaintance. A friend isn’t there by default or happenstance, they are there by choice. A classmate or acquaintance may become a friend. But there is distinctive behaviour that will help you promote such persons to the friend role in your mind.

18

Characteristics of a friend include: 1) A person you can share your inner most thoughts with without the fear of judgement or rejection. 2) A person you can lean on when you aren’t at your strongest or when you are going through a hard time.

Friendship blossoms out of intimacy and is seen in two people laughing together at their inside jokes, enjoying movies together, working on projects together, playing games together, being sad or angry together, looking after each other when the other is not well, lending the other money when their financial management falls off or investing in the others vision.

3) A person who shares common interests with Genuine friendship between man and woman you. is a direct attack on gender roles and almost always renders them null and void. This is a 4) A person who supports your endeavours good thing depending on how you look at it. both tangibly and emotionally At least who should cook the meals vs who 5) A person who fights for you and honours should make the most money won’t be a huge you. debate because the nature of friendship is collaborative regardless of gender. More on 6) The person you do all the above for in return. friendship to come in future articles.

Unwavering Commitment If our main influences regarding relationships are music, movies and social media. Then that may be an indication pointing to why marriages are failing more often now than in the time of my grandparents who are still married to this day. A relationship can’t last if it ends. I mean that goes without saying, right? A difficult relationship has no hope of becoming a beautiful relationship if one or both people quit. For your relationship to last for years upon years you and your partner must commit whole heartedly. Because I promise you, no matter how wonderful your partner seems now, they are going to offend you from time to time. They may say something insensitive not really understanding how much of a trigger it would be for you. They may not do something you expect them to do. They may commit a huge offence that may warrant the end of the relationship. However, the relationship may still be salvageable through thorough and thoughtful discussion. Unwavering commitment must be agreed upon by both people, it won’t work if it is one sided. Both must agree that under no circumstances will we end this relationship.

This aspect of the foundation is the most tricky and scary because it sets us up for abuse. But only if we are not in tune with the character of our partner. So, this ingredient ought to come after the previous 3 have been established. Otherwise, we may unknowingly bind ourselves to a tyrant.

Jesus Christ (The Bible) Some of you may ask, “why is Jesus necessary? Don’t many non-Christians have healthy relationships? Yea, there are relationships that survive without prayer or the Bible being direct influences.

However, every healthy relationship has elements of Christ’s character whether the people recognise it or not. In those moments when we fall short in our humanness, we both need to lean on Jesus when our emotions are telling us to quit, and look at the character of Jesus so that we may see how we should deal with our partner even when they have hurt us deeply. God’s example of love in the Bible is our ultimate example and should be our main influence.

Closing Remarks Thank you for reading my article I hope it blessed you, challenged you, caused you to consider the things you regard as foundational to a healthy and happy relationship. In my next article I’ll be going deeper into unconditional love. This is THE WORST RELATIONSHIP ADVICE EVER. You should not take what I say to heart, unless it makes sense to you in some weird way. Blessings to you and your family. Darren O. Salmon

Impending Doom

COLUMN

WITH TONI-ANN MILLEN

He spends time on every “insignificant” detail and so even when I don’t understand I know the script is right. However, recently I found myself in a predicament that though I didn't understand seemed to even contradict what

Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.

Anxiety kept me up many nights, as each day that ended brought me closer to my ultimate fear. One morning, some infamous Bible stories came flooding one after the other. The Israelites standing before the Red Sea, The Israelites on Faith in God is the only way I make sense of my

Obedience to God brought them to trouble.

We also feel that obedience leads us to paradise, nice cool air-conditioned spaces with good lighting and food. What we miss is that obedience to God leads us to greater intimacy with Him. Closeness to God requires faith, Faith that makes us ignore the body’s instincts to save itself but rather give it all up because God brought us here and we would not want to be anywhere else. We cannot be close to someone we don’t trust. God allows these situations to test the level of commitment and ascertain the depth of trust. The test is not simply a matter of pass or fail but rather for us to know where we really stand with God. How far we are allowing Him to come to us.

They remained. Think what it must have felt like to see a furnace and walk in it? To see a wide-open ocean and move toward it…To see a cross for you to in the most humiliating way and possess the ability to save yourself and yet you put one foot before the other and walk towards your doom. Even Jesus saw the doom coming and asked God to remove it if possible. The feelings that he battled were real. But God. You see none of these stories would have existed if the persons ran, took a detour or assumed that God would never allow this and conjured a human plan.

They stayed put and continued forward. This decision is why we have these great stories that strengthen our faith and why we have salvation. None of them knew at that moment the value of their decision and the lives that depended on their faithfulness and neither do you. They trusted God against all human instincts and put their fears and anxieties second to doing what God said and stood for. Something happens when we remain, when we decide to make our greatest desires second to the love of God, when we beat our flesh into submission because of our faith in God. It's the decision that screams “ Above all else God, I want you.” Like the Hebrew boys as they walked to their death. They knew God could save them, but they were ok if He chose not to. For them, let it be known that they did not compromise to serve another god. Their

24

Faith is a walk, not a talk. After we decide what we believe we act it out. These stories are the perfect examples of walking towards your doom for the sake of Christ. To be willing to give it all up, knowing that the reward though unseen is unfathomably great. It doesn’t happen with the click of a switch nor is it a reflex reaction. Many of us start the walk and then detour in the middle or just before the end. The highway of faith is filled with many exits. God wants us to make the sacrifice of our own will. He will not force us. If we really want intimacy with God, If we really want to experience His magnificence we will be able to put down earthly things and desires that mean the world to us. The walk of faith, like Jesus heading to the cross, can be long and is also riddled with triggers. Things that push you to compromise, give up or believe the worst about God. Satan knows what is at the end of a faith walk but he also knows that humans selfpreserve and so he will make every effort to discourage and derail. To equip ourselves to walk in faith regardless of what we see ahead of us to place the Word before us and keep stepping.

Let's Make: Delicious Banana Caramel Cream Dessert Let's guess... you want something sweet but it's gotta have a nice balance to it, right? Nothing too jaw-breaking, but nothing too soft either. We get it, and we've got the perfect solution! Ingredients: 2 bananas caramel sauce fresh whipped cream

Vanilla Pastry Cream Vanilla Pastry Cream 2/3 cup sugar can be reduced to 1/2 cup if you prefer desserts less sweet 1/4 cup cornstarch 1/2 teaspoon salt 3 cups whole milk 2 eggs 2 tablespoons butter 1 tablespoon vanilla extract or 2 teaspoons vanilla extract and 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste

Graham Cracker Crumble 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs about 10 full sized crackers 1/3 cup butter melted 1 tablespoon sugar

** Not our original recipe **

Instructions: Make Pastry Cream In a medium bowl, beat eggs with a fork to combine. Set aside. Mix sugar, cornstarch and salt in a medium saucepan. Gradually pour in milk, while whisking, to make a smooth mixture. Cook over medium heat, stirring almost constantly, until the mixture thickens and boils. Continue to cook and stir one minute. Pour several tablespoons of the hot mixture into the bowl with the eggs and immediately stir well. Pour warmed egg mixture into the pan with the rest of the hot milk mixture. Return to a slow boil, and cook one minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla. Set aside to cool. When the pan has cooled, place in the refrigerator to fully cool. If desired, lay a piece of plastic wrap on the top surface of the pastry cream to prevent a skin from forming. Make Graham Cracker Crumble Crush crackers in a large ziplock type bag. Pour crumbs, sugar and melted butter into a bowl and , stir until fully combined. Pour into a 9"x13" casserole dish and press into a even layer. Bake at 350*F for 10-12 minutes, until light brown. Allow to cool.

Assemble dessert Spoon about 2 tablespoons graham cracker crumble into individual serving dishes. Use a small glass to press the crumble into a firm layer, then add a layer of pastry cream into each dish. For easy assembly, fill a large ziplock type bag with the pastry cream, snip off the end and fill the dishes from this bag. Add a few slices of banana and top bananas with a layer of whipped cream, then add some graham cracker crumble and a drizzle of caramel (scoop caramel or dulce de leche into a small ziplock bag and snip off the end for easy application). (Repeat layers 2-5) Serve immediately or refrigerate up to 3 hours. Top with a slice of fresh banana just before serving

PAJE Fam, we are absolutely thrilled to be bringing you a deeper look into HUMBLE; this gifted acapella group that is intent on making the name of Jesus Christ known so that lives may be transformed! That stated, we've got a LOT to get into, so without further adu - let's jump into our chat with the group, HUMBLE. PAJE: Now, gents, real quick, help us to understand how H.U.M.B.L.E. started and how you knew that this meaningful acronym would be your name moving forward.

HUMBLE: The group began in a chemistry lab in the year 2005 [and made official in 2010], at the Kingsway High School in Kingston. Since then, the group’s dynamic has changed; shifting from a quartet anchored and heavily influenced by The Acapella Company, to a sextet with greater diversity. The name came was also created in that lab, where the acronym was formed: Hearts United Minds Bonded in Love for Eternity - a testament to the unique and synergetic nature of the group. [Since the group's formation] in 2005 almost all [original] members have since moved on.

PAJE: Love that! And to know that the name was skillfully created in a chemistry lab which is literally synonymous with the putting together of various elements to achieve a specific goal... BRILLIANT! That reminds us... Why acapella? HUMBLE: Acapella provides a space that is unsaturated, and limitless in nature. The ability to recreate instruments using the voice allows for creativity and dynamism that instruments cannot provide. PAJE: Got you on that! So, to help the PAJE fam to get to know you more... For each member, what are two things that people wouldn't readily know about you? Justin - I operate a catering company with my wife K’s Katering. I’m a co-producer on our new album. Julan - I enjoy current affairs, and I looove to sleep. I am NOT a morning person. I would rather stay up late at night and sleep in till midday

Aaron: I’m terrified of heights, which others may find shocking because I’m usually adventurous and daring. [Also] I operate a company called WaveNation JA - here we supply hairbrushes and durags for persons interested in getting waves. 3. Bonus?! [LOL we love to see it!] I still lay on my grandma's lap, it’s still one of my favourite things to do. Errol - I can be an overthinker. Whenever I sit down to think and gather my thoughts, oftentimes I don't reach far because I tend to think about all my endeavours at once. I’m [also] a lover of fast cars! Daniel - People don’t readily know that I have a reserved side and I love water excursions but I can’t swim. Chevaughn - I’m a poet- I enjoy writing poems. I am an early riser. My best times are at 3 or 4 am.

PAJE: Now, we promise we're gonna get into your music and journey real soon, but we wanna make sure that the PAJE Fam knows who they're journeying with! So, on that note, for each member, what are two things that you absolutely love about Jamaica?

HUMBLE: Justin - The hidden gems (rivers and beaches) and the music Julan - Our diverse skillset- the ability of our people to 'turn wi hand mek fashion'. The beautiful landscape Aaron- The food and the scenery. Errol - 1. The music. It is multifaceted and there is something for everybody. [aLSO] Our natural resources, especially our rivers and streams are to die for... Especially our rivers! Daniel - Reggae music/ Culture & hidden gems ( beaches/rivers) Chevaughn - The fooood! And definitely the culture. We are a unique bunch. Distinct from the world.

PAJE: As a group, what would you say the journey has been like together and how would you describe the type of growth you've experienced over the years?

HUMBLE: A collection of highs and lows. There have been points where we have never felt more closer. Then there were other times we thought this would be the end of the group. All part of the journey. The growth is immense! Vocally and otherwise. 10 years ago we would have never thought to have been able to write one song, let alone produce multiple original tracks. God is amazing.

PAJE: Love that! So, we're curious... for each member, what is one specific moment that you've had in being a part of the group that has caused you to say "Yes, this is exactly where I'm supposed to be" Justin- We were singing in Montego Bay one sabbath about the woman with the issue of blood. While I was leading the song, a lady came walking from the pews. She was moved to tears by the words and power of that song. That was a shifting moment for me to know that God is indeed leading this ministry. Julan- A moment when conference asked HUMBLE to accompany them around to different churches weekly, all apart of the prayer and fasting campaign they had. We were at a particular church one Wednesday and we were asked to sing a song that was unplanned for and we decided on spot to sing 'He touched me and made me whole'. Shortly after a lady testified about how God brought her through some tough times using that same song and she went on by saying that "the song did soo much for her and it was as if Jesus himseflf spoke through us". It was then that i realized that it must have been the work of the holy spirit placing me in this group to impact people's lives under the guidance of the Holy spirit.

Aaron- I remember an AY program we had at Andrews SDA. Each member was given the opportunity to speak about what God has been doing for us. Each time we get a chance to give our testimonies, it brings me so much closer to God. Seeing others being encouraged to continue to serve Him, is always a mover for me, and is a good reminder that this is where God wants me to be. Errol- The first time I sang with the group was at Waterford SDA Church. I just joined the group... Like the Saturday before. When I got to Waterford, we were asked to sing. I just joined the group which means I would not have known any of the songs they rehearsed. Despite this, we found a song we all knew and they asked me to lead it. Me! They didn't know my capabilities or anything like that, yet still they trusted me to lead. After that day I was like "Yup. Ammo stay here". Daniel- The first time I sang publicly with the group. I never knew the lyrics to the song & had to be learning on stage. & it was one of the best performances I’ve been apart of to date. The ministry & impact we had on the congregation gave me purpose & sealed that I needed to be using my gifts for good & for God

Chevaughn- I can recall singing at a church 18 in St. Thomas one sabbath. During the song, I recognized that she was very troubled. We stopped in the middle of the song and prayed for her. This broke her to tears. It was one of the most moving experiences I’ve ever had while singing.

PAJE: That was powerful, and we believe those convictions definitely show in the way you all express yourselves through song. So, tell us - Where do you find inspiration when it comes to your song arrangements? HUMBLE: Everywhere. This world is quite a dynamic space. There is always something happening here in Jamaica. That allows us to write about what is on our hearts.

46 For each member, what would you say it's been like being a part of this group and thinking about the impact that the Lord has called you to make? Justin- I feel very fortunate to be part of this group. Not many people know what their gift is. The ability to Know and to use our gifts for His glory is truly a peculiar blessing. Seeing hearts moved each time we sing is a reminder that it is not in our own strength, but His.

Julan - Sometimes it is an awesome task carrying this mantle of minister. It takes hard work and consistency, especially while no one is watching. Knowing that I have a responsibility of carrying younger minds to the knowledge of Jesus is quite humbling. Seeing others being encouraged by our ministry is life-changing.

Aaron - Humble is built on friendship and faith, Generally when we get together for rehearsal we start off with worship which leads us into deep conversations and that takes up 90% of the time, then there is that one person to say come man we need to practice, which is definitely bad time management.

However, those conversations usually opens us up more to what we are about to sing, the words you hear are coming straight from our hearts, it’s not just about the lyrics but how each melody expresses our troubles, gratitude or whatever we may be feeling at the time. When we share that with others, when I hear that someone was touched through a song, I am encouraged and I feel blessed that God has given me a talent to spread his word and his love Errol - Singing with this group has been nothing short of amazing. I love singing and I love music and this group has allowed me to do and enjoy both at the same time. Seeing the impact we have and the way in which our music reach people and touch lives? Phenomenal! Daniel - It’s been a fun filled, spiritual journey. The Lord has blessed us with these musical gifts so we have the responsibility of using it to influence other young people through our music to be encouraged in their spiritual journeys.

47 Chevaughn - It has been such a blessing. I have seen tangible evidence of God’s hand during our ministry. People who we have not met- as far as Zimbabwe have spoken of how our music makes them feel and the positive presence that it adds to their worship experience. Truly incredible. PAJE: Thanks a lot for sharing that with us. We've gotta express that we're absolutely happy you're back having been fans of you for years prior. What would you say led to you deciding that you wanted to relaunch even after so much time away and would you say that there's anything different about the group now? HUMBLE: Even though we were singing, not many people were aware, as there wasn’t much effort to take our ministry outside of our own four walls. As time progressed, we felt the tangible pull of God to extend our reach once again, as we strongly believe He has called us to a higher purpose. [Pregarding any changes] Outside of the faces (lol) - The sound is different. Individuals have grown and the new arrivals have allowed us to add more colour and dynamism to our music. We have also been more intentional in writing, as we believe it is very important to own your content. It has been quite a fun experience.

PAJE: You recently released a single (Feb 12) called 'Try Him Out'. What was it like voicing this song and what made you decide that you were going to start the year with this track? HUMBLE: It was such an interesting journey. Firstly, we recorded Try Him Out in a makeshift studio that we created. We were soo invested in creating this song, that we would stop at nothing to get it done. We’ll be showing some of the highlights on our page. We felt that it would be a good attention grabber. Something that had a good vibe, with a message that is solid. Coincidentally, it was reggae month, so that made it all the more special.

PAJE: Now that you're fully back, tell us what we can look forward to at least for 2023 - are there any special projects coming our way? HUMBLE: Absolutely! This song is 1 of many that will be featured on our album this year! This will be an album with a difference, with something there for everyone. [Look forward to] more dynamic music and a greater, deeper presence in the music space.

PAJE: Now, we can't believe it, but we're coming to the end of our chat with you and so we want to spend some time encouraging our readers. What would you say to the persons who are reluctant to Try Him Out because they believe that Christians are hypocrites/bad people?

HUMBLE: For us, the church is a sick bay. There are no perfect people here, only a perfect God. As such, we are bound to see hypocrites and the like. However, don’t focus on the patients in the hospital, focus on the One who can heal you.

PAJE: You're so right on that! On the flipside (but definitely the very same coin) What would you say to the persons who feel like God has abandoned them through some of the most difficult seasons in their life? HUMBLE: it is in the darkest moments of our lives, when God seems silent, that He shows up the strongest. James says to count it all joy, because the testing of our faith produces patience. Now is the time to exercise your faith in Him, and we PROMISE, He will show Himself mighty.

PAJE: What would you say to persons who want to share their talent for God but they feel like it's so unique that it won't be accepted? HUMBLE: The body of Christ consists of many limbs and members. Don’t allow popularity to kill your creativity. Use what God has given you to edify His church.

PAJE: Wow, we've gotta say that learning about this group has really been so special and we're honoured to have been able to get your time as we know that coordinating schedules could not have been easy. With that, we pray God's richest blessings over each of you and your families. We are excited about what He is about to do in each of your lives and also as a solid unit and just know, we're cheering for you! Before we go, Is there anything else you would want to say to our readers?

A parting note:

We love you all and cannot wait to share our new music with you, and sit down to fellowship. Be encouraged that God is doing a great thing. Continue to pray for your sons that we will keep true to the will of God.

EXCELLENCE UNTO GOD

Get to know

Geneva Ayre

We got a chance to snag some time with the talented and humble Geneva Ayre soon after she released her latest song, King of Glory. Once we connected, we felt just how much the Lord is with her on her journey and we pray that you're truly blessed by this conversation!

PAJE: SO! You’ve been in music for some time, we see, but we’d love if you could share about your musical journey with the PAJE Fam. GENEVA: PAJE Fam, this is may sound cliché, but to be honest, destiny has pointed me in the direction of this calling since birth. When my mother was giving birth to me, she sang throughout her entire labour and delivery! I was always singing and composing little songs, but I really started to take music seriously when I was eight years old.

The desire to use my gift to glorify God started to develop when I got baptized at twelve years old and intensified when I started receiving inspiration to write songs two years later. I have boldly pursued the call on my life by immersing myself in music. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in music, I am a music teacher by profession, an adjunct lecturer at my Alma Mater - Edna Manley College, I sang in the group URIM 7, sang background vocals for a number of artistes and now I am choosing to obey The Master’s call to use the gifts he has entrusted me with to share the songs He has given me with the world.

PAJE: How would you describe your musical style? GENEVA: I am quite eclectic and rounded based on my musical studies. I enjoy promoting the gospel using all genres. However, the songs I write are always direct downloads from Heaven, so I try to deliver them how I hear them in my spirit.

PAJE: Who is it that you desire to communicate most with through your music? PAJE: If you could use 5 sentences to describe who you are, what would they be? GENEVA: I am a Child of God. I am a creative, passionate individual with a intense desire to glorify God and fulfil my destiny. I am open and honest. I try to be kind and share my experience in hopes of helping others along their journey. I love to make people laugh.

GENEVA: Isaiah 61:1 has always guided who I try to reach; the meek, the broken-hearted, the captives, those who mourn, the lost - Any and every one I can reach.

PAJE: What would you say to persons who are scared to pursue their purpose because of how big the vision from God is? GENEVA: God loves you and perfect love casts out all fear. Total surrender is key; God is sovereign and once He gives vision He will make provision.

PAJE: How would you describe your journey with God and how has it impacted your musical journey?

PAJE: What are 3 things about you that people wouldn’t readily know?

GENEVA: My main aim in life is to see God glorified hence almost every major decision I have made has been based on what I believed GOD wanted in that particular season.

I have a wonderful husband and two beautiful daughters. Perfect love casts out all fear but I still struggle with a fear of dogs, please pray for me and lastly I love Italian food.

56 PAJE: King of Glory… what a beautiful track. Tell us, what was the journey of creating it like? GENEVA: One Sabbath as I was ministering at my church, I was having one of those moments where one stands in awe of God’s glory and presence and I started singing the line “There’s none beside You, no one can compare to you, you are holy” from the song repeatedly. When I got home, that line continued to resonate with me, and I could not sleep until I completed the lyrics. My husband and I arranged it, did a demo in our home studio and then called on some of our musician friends to record the track. When I was voicing, I was actually experiencing excruciating pain and literally called on Jesus after every line as I was determined to finish the song. The journey to completion was difficult as there were several glitches along the way to the point where my husband and I were uncomfortable releasing the song. Ultimately, we chose the path of surrender, and we must give thanks for what God is doing and the support we have received.

PAJE: What is the core message of King of Glory that you’d like people to receive as they listen? GENEVA: God is Holy and He ALONE deserves our everything.

PAJE: What’s next for Geneva Ayre? GENEVA: I am currently working on new music and by God’s grace they will be released soon. I am also in rehearsal mode with my band in preparation for events.

PAJE: Is there anything else you’d like to share with our PAJE Fam? GENEVA: I want to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to share my story on this platform, and for all the support that I have received over the years. Blessings and much love to you all.

The PODCAST

PAJE: So, Gloria, we've listened to this podcast and it feels like a solid platform that allows people to speak their truth! So, what led to the birth of this Podcast, and tell us about the type of impact you desire for it to make? GLORIA: From having experience in the radio industry and seeing the impact it made while doing entertainment to joining Talk Up Yute and understanding that learning via the airwaves is just as important and can be done in an exciting way made me realize that I can continue to impact lives by podcasting and educating which is a passion of mine. I was invited to some Podcast and asked why I didn't have a Podcast of my own, seeing as it was evident that this is something I love doing, which made me realize that I do need to start walking in my purpose. This is how I birthed TheUnfilteredByG'Ade.

The Core message of the Podcast is that Learning is not just about going to school, we have new and improved ways of learning and educating ourselves while being in the comfort of our home by means of a Podcast which is Educating, Empowering, Entertaining and Inspiring. With the Podcast, it tends to "Leave no stone Untouched". Some of the Core themes are Family, Community and Mental Health. [And with that...] The Specific type of impact I intend to make is one of, Ministry. Ministry in the sense that someone can be helped and their life transformed through listening to the Podcast. In all things, God Must be glorified and lives Must be changed.

I am inspired to reach all kinds of people, mostly adults from all walks of life. My Podcast spans over 40 countries worldwide so it is not geared to just specifics but for everyone. PAJE: Wow, that's powerful, and we must say we are really impressed about the fact that your guest roster spans a wide cross-section of persons which clearly speaks to the heart of the podcast and who it's intended to reach with a view to transform lives. With all that in mind, what type of impact has hosting this podcast had on you personally, and, just so our readers know, what's next for the podcast and how can they become a guest on your show? The Podcasting journey has been eye opening for me. There have been tears, and laughter but in all I turn back to God who is the foundation for it all. 2023 Brings more Inspirational and Educational Topics that will certainly resonate with everyone. The BOOK:

Things Left Unsaid Before I Do: The Diary of Gloria Ade-Gold PAJE: Now, this book, from its very title, definitely prepares the reader for an interesting journey ahead - with YOU. Thank you for your bravery and willingness to let epople into your inner thoughts so that we can learn lessons that are absolutely necessary to learn. Now, as we get to know you, The Author, how would you say your journey with God has been? GLORIA: My journey with the Lord has been very interesting. lol. I have learnt to trust him wholeheartedly even through the toughest situations and even though it can be hard, he is my only source. It isn't always the best but I try my very best to be where he wants me to be. PAJE: Got you, got you. So, as you've grown under His guidance, what are 5 things about you that people wouldn't readily know? GLORIA: I am more introverted than extroverted. I love watching documentaries. I am Nigerian. I listen to more worship music than Gospel Dancehall. I love very Hard.

62 PAJE: Now, this book can quickly be taken out of context simply by the title based on a lot of the narratives that the mainstream media has pushed over the year. Did you have any fear of publishing this book, noting that it reveals a lot about your very personal experience?

GLORIA: Fear? No. I just wanted it to be noted that it was from my point of view and this book was not written to hurt the other person as I also, made my share of mistakes. The format of the book is written in a forgiving and more mature voice than even when I began writing. I was no longer angry or resentful, I understood who I am and whom Christ has called me to be. I got married young and even though I thought I was prepared some things transpired that turned my life upside down and I decided to start writing a journal on these events. In my mind, No one told me any of this, and was in i shock lol! I went into a marriage expecting the other person to "complete me" and make me happy. This impacted me as i began losing myself and my self-esteem. You are whole, The other person only adds to you. This alone was unfair to the other person and created problems that could have never been fixed, so I had to learn to love myself enough to leave.

PAJE: Wow! So, then, how long did it take you to write the book (though a lot of it was written already), and how did you know it was 'finished' and ready to be released? GLORIA: It took me 8 years to write the book because I had to overcome what I was going through before I could conclude. I knew it was truly complete when I wrote about forgiveness and had forgiven. I knew what I needed not wanted and I knew how to love myself intentionally. What profit would it be to stay single because I was hurt? I know I deserve to be loved how God intended and I knew I could reciprocate it to someone else.

PAJE: Now, you've clearly shared about your courage to end a tumultuous marriage and the fact that God gave you the release. But what would you say to other persons who are currently stuck in marriages that are destroying them but they're afraid to leave because of what their community or the church would say? GLORIA: This is only between You and God. No one fully understands what you are going through, because they do not live with you.

Do all that you can to ensure you are working on the marriage daily and seek Good Counsel, not from single friends or ones who won't have your best interest at [An interesting fact is that...] My initial heart. Marriage is always work but if it thought was not a book. I normally have becomes abusive, speak to God and make journals from my childhood growing up but your decision from there. during the process of writing, I decided that, from my experience, we do not have people around us that "enlighten our darkness on PAJE: Solid. So, real quick - would you say this certain issues", and I thought that I can help book is only for women or can men read it, too? to shed some light on some factors and help others who are struggling. GLORIA: No, this book is also for men who want to understand, from a woman's [So, in writing the book and structuring it in perspective, what may be happening to their the way I did...] Some Key takeaways are: partner and he himself can read to understand 1. You are Not alone. how vastly different men are from women 2. Forgive yourself. [and how to maneuver that with his wife]. 3. Choose your battles wisely. 4. You are enough.

PAJE: We're closing out what has been a really thought-provoking conversation. As a quick lil fact check, we realize that you're no longer living in Jamaica. So, we wanted to know... what are 5 things that you love most about Jamaica?

GLORIA: Five things I love are: The Food The Beaches The Culture Vacation Spots The Music

PAJE: Gloria, thanks again for sitting with us and being so open about your journey! Is there anything else that you'd like to say to the PAJE Fam? GLORIA: Only God defines who you are. Do not get stuck in trying to fit into someones life that you stop walking in your purpose. Lastly, Love yourself immensely [and remember to] let Jesus be the center of Every relationship you are in and choose Joy over everything else.
