His Beatz

the fall - Serge

Let’s just start off by saying this track is INTENSE. And, that’s just fine! The beat and the dynamics in this track really cause you to want to listen to it, and then it’s topped off by the Truth at that! To give a synopsis, it literally creates the image for listeners about the fall of man. You know, when Eve ate of the forbidden fruit having been decieved and we know the rest of what happened after...or maybe you don’t! If you’re not familiar with this story, we invite you to take a look in the book of Genesis, and actually, check the song out while you dive into the Word if you want.

fragile -

tasha page-lockheart

This song is quite refreshing. Many people will be able to relate to it as we have all definitely been found in very discouraging places in our walks in Christianity. In fact, the questions asked at the beginning of the song sound so familiar and what makes this song so likeable is that it answers the questions..speaking of the Lord catching us because He knows how fragile we are. It really helps to stir up great appreciation for God having listened to it. Be encouraged.

11

everything -

brittney wright

This song has a great groove, aiming to re-energize us and remind us about God’s grace and comforting embrace. It speaks of being in full surrender to His will and leadership, and being satisfied in Him, because He is our everything. This track can really work as a great one to choreograph a decent praise dance to, or just facilitate us really grooving and praising the Lord for who He is.

fear - lecrae

One of the tracks off his upcoming album, Anomaly, and clearly we can see that it is going to be different! This track took us all over! But really tackled a lot of emotions we go through on the base of fear, which is not of God, and as such, we need to come against it aggressively, as reflected in the song. Be reminded of your identity in Christ and move out on that. Walk in your purpose, despite all the odds...despite the discouragement.

13

All In - The kenjex

This track! Kenjex? This vessel’s flow is real! So this works as one of your feel good tracks... reminding you of your conviction in the Lord, and just energizing you to walk in that conviction. This guy’s young, but He’s got depth, and we’re happy he’s for the King! First few lines may just have you like “Woa, he went there...” but hey...it’s a pretty decent track. Actually curious to hear your thoughts of it, fam.

WAKE UP - NF

This track is pretty deep, reminding us that life outside of Christ is extremely empty and filled with false hope and happiness. The song prompts us to wake up to Truth and walk in it. He’s actually a pretty decent rapper as well. Check him out.

The times are getting a lot more serious. Which, if we were walking in the spirit truly, we wouldn’t be surprised about . Nevertheless, we as Christians need to bear some things in mind when it comes to addressing these matters.

It can be stated that viewing things in this manner facilitates narrow-minded beliefs, but, how about this....if we lived fully according to the Word, which is what we are called to do, the gray areas in life would not hold a place in our conviction in the Lord. Let us also bear in mind that we, as Christians, have not been given the power to judge. And yes, this is something that is always thrown in our faces by those we tend to cast our opinions on based on our understanding of the Word. But let’s examine this briefly. Yes, we do expose ourselves to Truth (which is in the Word), but does that mean we are going to try and cast others down because they ‘do not conform’ to the Truth? How will we expect to be the intercessors that we are called to be if persons can’t trust us to not judge them? That said, though...please note that we are not forced to tolerate sin, as we do not subscribe to the world. However, the Lord certainly knew why He commanded us to love our neighbour as ourselves. And on that note, let us remember that God hates sin, but loves us all unconditionally. So, in being His children, as we receive that love from the Lord, let us allow it to flow through us, and surround our neighbours. We’re called to walk in the spirit...being lights in the world. Let’s move, then, in the spirit of love.

FREEFLOW

Remember, brethren, that sin is sin. As such, we must be willing to acknowledge all sin as equally wrong, and equally detrimental. This is particularly because a heavy emphasis is placed by the world on particular sins that are generally unacceptable as they affect a wide cross-section of individuals. But, does the measure of sin have to do with quantity - regarding the number of individuals affected by the particular sin? Or should we actually look on it in the most truthful way possible - black or white...?

Who is he?

Well, I am a lover of God.

Early in my life He made it so that i would love and worship Him and not the sound of my own voice or instrument. I fell in love with His presence at the age of 15 because while singing a gospel song one day, He flooded my life with Himself and I was amazed and overwhelmed. It kept me from a lot of the evil my friends got into. I’m from Connecticut, USA, but i grew up with Jamaicans so I think I fit in well in Jam-Rock. I’m a husband, father of one and one on the way. I play the piano, sing, write songs, produce, and love sit-coms. I’m a student of many things; i like to learn. I love the gift of prophecy and covet more of it in my life. The Lord called me to ministry and now I’m a full time minister in the House of Prayer in Pasadena. My wife and I are also called to missions. I don’t know exactly where yet but God will lead us.

PAJE got the opportunity to not only meet this man of God, but to also witness His deep passion for the Lord. McKinley first visited Jamaica in October 2013 for a Worship & Prophetic Conference along with his Pasadena International House of Prayer (PIHOP) family, in conjunction with the Jamaica House of Prayer (JAHOP). The conference facilitated a true flow of the Holy Spirit and saw the PIHOP family really sharing with paticipants and teaching a new structure or method of Praise and Worship called ‘Harp and Bowl’. The conference went on for three days, with PIHOP sharing their music with their Jamaican family. One of McKinley’s songs sat particularly well with us as it sounded familiar! It was to a Reggae riddim! McKinley came back to the island for similar ministry matters in recent weeks and shared with many individuals, which facilitated him forming even deeper ties with our culture than the genuine love and appreciation he had for Jamaica from before.

How did you come to know the Lord?

I grew up in church, we had been attending a church as a family but i had not given my life. Then when I was 11 we visited a new church that was full of power and presence. We immediately joined as a family. It was Mother’s Day so there were lots of others giving their lives too. But that made it no less special and turned our lives around.

...and as for the journey? It’s been great! We believers serve and love and are loved by The Awesome God. It has been constant mercy, love, fun, sweetness, and joy. There have been rough times, but God always comes through if we press into Him. The rough times are there to push us closer to Him. The Lord has taken me from Glory to Glory, by that I mean, deeper understanding of His call on my life to deeper understanding. It’s been constant conversion.

Khalid’s music ministry

Khalid’s life of ministry spans many different areas, allowing him to describe himself as a Family man, priest in the House of Prayer, worship leader, prayer minister, prophetic minister, a missionary, a singer/song writer, a pastor and a teacher. McKinley has clearly been entrusted with a unique and powerful ministry which is nested in the love of God and nurtured through the deepening of his relationship with the Lord.

Based on influences from par ticular genres or cultures, how would you describe your sound? Hmmmm, it’s very eclectic. I grew up listening to Gospel, Rap, R&B and Reggae. So all of those things find their way into my music from time to time. I combine the genres also. I want my sound to be the sound of His presence, or a sound that will cause the atmosphere to be filled with Him. I try to play and sing what He is showing me. I desire to be an instrument that plays the piano and sings. So The Lord is really the musician and I am the instrument being played by Him.

What has kept you grounded on your musical journey?

The truth that i fell in love with Him first and not “my sound, knowing that all comes from Him and is due to Him, a sober perspective about my ability, (the word says that we should think of others as better than ourselves) and my desire/call to be humble like Moses.

Hard at work in the Kingdom and always craving more in the Lord, Khalid currently has a few projects in the pipelines. I have a desire to record an instrumental CD that will facilitate people entering into the presence of God unhindered or unencumbered by other thoughts and melodies. I don’t want to get in the way for the two-way communication The Lord wants to have with His people in the devotional time they have. I also would like to record a CD with worship songs on it as well but i think that will be the second project.

What would you say is something that ministers of the Gospel should always be mindful of? Ministry is a life of commitment and love (which is a verb and a choice) which God gives you as a gift to help make you more Christlike.

What would you like to see happening in the Kingdom of God? I have a strong desire to see revival in LA, USA, JA. and the world. I want to see the Glory of God come in such a powerful way that people could not deny Him and no one but Him would get the glory for moving so powerfully. I want to see the nations saved.

To his family in Jamrock

I love Jamrock and the Jamrockians.

Haha! I feel right at home with you guys and i love how talented you are. I also love the rich history and roots in God this country has. It shows up in you national anthem. It’s powerful. The Lord has a great thing for you to do, internationally! You may be a small island nation but God has a big call on this little nation! I see you as David. The smallest brother, the youngest, the one that even the father thought was insignificant. But you are not, there is a great destiny on you, and The Lord wants to affect the Earth through you. Go Deep in God, sing what He tells you, what He shows you, don’t copy, don’t copy, DON’T COPY the USA or Hillsongs or any other place. Be original, God has a message he wants to deliver to the world through you, authentically Jamaican message and in an authentically Jamaican way.

You’ve waited years for this and it seems your perfect, slightly crazy story is finally reaching the goal you and your partner have been working for. So, you whip out your laptop and begin to flesh out the wedding that you hope will capture the essence of your partnership. CONTRIBUTOR: CANACE MORGAN

You contact the florists and the caterers and maybe an event planner for quotes. They all greet you with smiles and congratulations and promise your quote within a week.

You then sit by computer swooning over all the perfect pictures on Pinterest and Instagram when your first quote comes in; that simple rustic draped arch you want costs close to $50,000. Suddenly the pictures on your screen starts to spin. “If the arch almost busts the budget,” you ask, “what about my perfect centrepiece, menu, venue…” and the list goes on. We know that feeling we know when you are about to clutch your head and ask yourself why don’t you just elope. But before you throw everything you’ve dreamed of to the wind, breathe deeply and continue reading.

You can get elegant on a budget. Usually, I’d tell you just leave the hard work to me and my team, and I probably will later on, but first let me give you 5 tips to celebrate your big day without busting your budget and having your friends think “cheap cheap”.

4 Off the Grain: Date & Time

If you want to save money on your wedding apply the same logic that you do to buying your plane tickets or booking a hotel room.

Keeping the wedding on a Friday or Sunday can save you a lot of money in rental costs.

The hitch to these is making sure all the additional things you have to rent to bring to location won’t come up to more than yourother options. “The name ‘Zola’ actually means ‘Lump of Earth’… translating to earth and peaceful…So because all of the pieces are natural or derived from nature; coconut, brass, copper, gem stones…everything… Zola emerged.” In speaking with Monique, PAJE found that it was a beautiful concept, which can be looked on from the point of view of the creation of Adam...[then the LORD God formed the man from dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature...Genesis 2:7] “I’m trying to push the idea of self acceptance…or at least saying ‘don’t beat yourself up about what your peers are saying about you…if you see something about you that you think needs to change, then take your time and work on it…” I just keep seeing how people beat themselves up and are never happy with how they are.. separate and apart from looks, but even identity.” That formed the undertone of Zola…self acceptance… loving yourself and appreciating your identity.

Who’s Monique?

Okay, wow. Monique is a ball of creativity… a humble person who just really wants the best out of life. I’m a go-getter and I have a lot of ideas; I love to share and help others. I’m just aspiring for my best.

How does God tie into your aspiration?

He’s a foundation; my foundation. Where everything has come from. There have been ups and downs…potholes…many seasons. But, I know He’s there for me and I’m pushing on.

Where did your passion for jewellery come from?

I actually attended a craft fair at my high school, and in walking around I saw this lady with some beautiful pieces, and it just happened instantly. I think part of it also being in a space where you don’t have that freedom to experiment and dabble with different realms…so I was searching for a way to express myself..and this became it.

Photography by PAJE Magazine

Why the switch from ‘Golden Concepts’?

Well, the name actually came out of buck-ups…eventually someone suggested it because I actually live in Golden Springs and also gold represents quality, etc…and concepts…but one day I googled ‘Golden Concepts’ and found that it was the name of a company in Singapore that sells adult diapers…and my business was the second result in Google. So From that, I decided to change the name. So I went on a search for something African inspired…and something natural. So I searched for some baby names.

51

So, in pushing the message of self-acceptance through your pieces, What is your definition of ‘Beauty’? Beauty is different for everybody. You could say things are beautiful for their intrinsic value…and I can also say things are beautiful in different ways... This reminds me of a photo I saw the other day referring to the education system…in that there was a line of animals: a monkey, an elephant, etc..and you tell them that they pass if they’re able to climb that tree. The monkey can climb the tree but everyone else will feel left out or behind because they can’t climb the tree..it’s not what they’re made to do; that’s not their identity. So I don’t have a definition to give because different people are beautiful because of different things

“You have heard the commandment that says, ‘you must not commit adultery.’ But I say anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Matthew 5: 27-28

Have you ever wanted something so bad you could almost taste What was also clear from the beginning is the context in which it?! Maybe you have a random craving and all of a sudden your He created these desires to be satisfied. mouth begins to salivate. He made one man and one woman, and then he brought them And this isn’t just with food - think about your favourite song – together in the perfect marriage union pretty soon you can feel your head bopping and body rocking as So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and raving is now all you want to do! Desires are something pretty common to us all – even Jesus! Jesus speaks about our desires on more than one occasion in more than one way. It is desire which drives us to do great things and lack of desire which makes us want to do nothing at all. It is also desire which drives us to do evil But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. (James 1:14-15)

God knows this and so He empowers us to overcome our evil desires by identifying the root cause of our sinful nature. One of the most common desires known to mankind is the desire for sex. “In the beginning God created sexual desire…”. A very crude paraphrase, but let’s be real: the Lord made mankind with sexual organs -they were not an afterthought. It therefore follows that He expects us to have sexual desires.

while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh.

Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame. (Gen. 2:21-25).

So, the tools have been given, desire implanted and context set! But the problem is too often we ignore the context, thus misusing the tools and destroying each other, spiritually, emotionally and physically. As a result Jesus comes with the antidote and instructs us to apply the remedy to the right area in order to correct the problem – our desire.

57

He addresses this particular issue of sexual immorality in Mathew Lastly, practice makes perfect. We must continually practice the 5 and makes it plain that the solution isn’t only found in focusing controlling of our thought life. Philipians 4:8 gives a very detailed less on the outward appearance, but more so in paying closer at- way of how to “train the thought dragon”: tention to the desire we foster in our hearts. This is because it is out of corrupted desire (fulfilling emotional want outside of right context) that corrupt actions come (Mathew 12:34-35). Desiring sex is not wrong! But when that desire is not controlled it leads to lust in its corrupted state, and lust is synonymous with two bodies physically coming together in the sight of God. How then can we rectify our corrupt state and experience wholeness of spirit, body and our emotions?

“Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” Phil 4:8

Several things contribute to our thought life – including the songs we listen to, the movies and tv shows we watch (hate to break it to ya Scandal!) and even some of the conversations we engage in.

We must therefore carefully guard our ears and our eyes to The only way is to bring healing to our desires, by deciding to protect ourselves from improper and destructive practices borne out of our own lusts. confine them to their God-given context. Habitual prayer and reading the word of God are the foundations As we train ourselves to think proper thoughts, then proper actions become more easily obtainable. on which desire can be corrected. Psalm 119:9 tells us that the way for a person to cleanse their One of the easiest ways to keep our thoughts in check is to ask a very popular question: ways is by taking heed to every word of God. After reading, we must seek understanding by praying and asking the Holy Spirit to explain the meaning of what we read and for strength and grace to apply this understanding to our daily lives.

What Would Jesus Do?

Her story may have started long before she even knew it. At 8 months old Dr. Richardson was given to her grandparents by her mom, a teenager only sixteen years of age. Living with her grandparents and older sister, Jacqueline Taylor, Richardson received unconditional love. However at 15 years old, the desire she always felt to live with her mother who had migrated a year before, intensified. One morning instead of going to high school, she instead journeyed to the American Embassy in Jamaica, West Indies, by herself, in hopes of getting a visa to finally live with my mom in Brooklyn, New York, who had remarried and had a baby.
