Meet Tran “I am the first in my village to get into a good university and win a scholarship to study abroad. My parents are very proud of me. I hope my story will inspire many kids in my village. I want to send my thanks to SEEDS, I wouldn’t be where I am today without your support.” Tran* is from a remote and mountainous area of Quang Binh province. She first received the scholarship in eighth grade. After an accident, her father could no longer work to support their family of four. Since then, Tran’s mother has been the sole bread winner as a farmer. They live in an old house, left by her grandparents. Tran was chosen to receive the scholarship because farming hardly earns enough to pay for Tran and her sister’s schooling. The scholarship enabled both Tran and her younger sister to stay in school and attend top Vietnamese universities. Tran is a student at Da Nang University of Economics, majoring in auditing while her sister recently started at the University of Economics in Ho Chi Minh City. Tran has excelled in university, she maintains high grades and won second prize in an auditing contest between national universities. Proudly, she won a four-month scholarship for an exchange program to study in Scotland at Heriot-Watt University. Tran’s dream is to work for a big international auditing firm after graduation. *Names have been changed to protect individuals’ privacy
