Empowering the Vulnerable to End Human Traficking

The Issue

Human trafficking is a growing $150 billion a year business, enslaving over 40 million women, children, and men in forced sexual and forced labor exploitation (ILO & Walk Free Foundation 2017). The chance of becoming enslaved in the Asia Pacific region is twice as high compared to developed countries (ILO 2012).

Vietnam is a major source country for cross-border sex and labor trafficking.

Our Goal

To prevent trafficking by empowering the most vulnerable populations

Our Approach

We break the cycle of human trafficking by investing comprehensively in at-risk women, men, and youth to prevent trafficking and in survivors to help them build new lives.

Where We Work

We work throughout Vietnam in trafficking hotspots and collaborate with partner organizations in destination countries, including those in Asia and Europe.

Prevention

Protection

Academic Scholarships

Trafficking survivors risked their lives to regain their freedom. Comprehensive reintegration services bring a real chance at a new life and reduce re-trafficking risks.

Empowerment through Education and Knowledge Education protects and empowers at-risk youth to make safer and better economic choices. Our scholarships offer long-term education and life-skill development to girls in the Mekong Delta. In addition to fees, supplies, bicycles and tutoring, we also conduct home visits, family days, and summer camps.

ADAPT Clubs

Peer-led extracurricular activities build leadership skills and trafficking awareness with strong emphasis on self-learning and self-awareness in schools.

Vocational Training & Job Placement Opportunities for training, job readiness skills and financial literacy improve economic stability and safeguard against trafficking.

Factory Awareness to Counter Trafficking (FACT) Worker training reduces human trafficking and forced labor risks in the global supply chain. FACT provides accelerated-learning workshops on trafficking prevention to factory workers and managers. We work with employers to create good practices in labor recruitment and retention.

Empowerment through Self-Reliance

Returnee Initial Support Essentials (RISE)

We enhance first responders' support for trafficking survivors upon their return to Vietnam by providing RISE care packages of clothing, personal hygiene items, travel costs and referrals to local support services. We also provide trainings to local government agencies and border guards who assist survivors.

Reintegration Services

Our Compassion Houses and reintegration services in Northern and Southern Vietnam provide trafficking survivors safe housing, emotional support, vocational training/ academic schooling, health care, life skills, job placement, legal assistance, and family support. We empower survivors with the self-confidence and practical skills to become self-reliant.

Partnerships

Empowerment through Collaborations We work closely with partners from the local to International levels including: Grassroots networks to educate communities about trafficking Families, teachers, and communities to keep at-risk youth safe from traffickers and from dropping out of school Domestic and international corporations to protect their workers and supply chains from trafficking through awareness campaigns and workshops Local and national governments to ensure trafficking survivors' safe return and successful reintegration Local and international NGOs to provide referrals, vocational training, and other reintegration services
