(hiibiza.com), la parada más joven en la escena Asoma, por ejemplo, cada lunes en la célebre clubber pitiusa que tendrá entre sus residentes y divertida fiesta Flower Power de Pacha a los DJ Real Black Coffee y Martin Garrix. O, (pachaibiza.com), que consigue atraer a un
público de lo más diverso. También mantiene su espíritu joven e inconformista el Pikes Hotel (pikesibiza.com), el mítico hotel donde en 1987 Freddie Mercury celebrara la fiesta de cumpleaños más famosa de Ibiza. Cumplía 41 años, el ecuador de todos los ecuadores. Para rememorar aquella juerga, desde hace unos años se celebra en septiembre una fiesta en su honor que comienza al mediodía con una comida benéfica cuyas donaciones se destinan a la organización Mercury Phoenix Trust. No lejos de aquí, y también en Sant Antoni, se encuentra Café del Mar, otro icono nacido en los 80 que sigue poniéndole ritmo a las puestas de sol más famosas de Ibiza. Y junto a él, las animadas pre-parties del Café Mambo, el mejor comienzo para una noche repleta de promesas de juventud. Aunque para rememorar la década de las hombreras y la laca, nada mejor que acercarse un domingo al Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza, donde una temporada más la fiesta Children of the 80s trae la mejor música de aquella época. Porque, tarde o temprano, la nostalgia se vuelve muy tentadora para todos. Ya lo decía el hedonista F. Scott Fitzgerald en su libro A este lado del paraíso: “Yo no quiero reincidir en mi inocencia. Solo añoro el placer de volverla a perder”.

When we’re young, everything seems so near. All is future. But as the years pass, when we stop to look, everything seems farther away. All we see is the past. In his film Youth, the Italian director Paolo Sorrentino captures this contrast with a simple metaphor, when a fading French film director invites a young actress to contemplate a distant mountain through a pair of binoculars. First she holds them the right way around. Then she looks through them backwards. Let’s try the same with Ibiza: first exploring the modern side of the island, before turning back to the past. Youth is not just for those with soft skin but also for those of us who preserve and even yearn for it. This is doubly true of Ibiza, an island with Peter Pan syndrome, somewhere that refuses to grow up. This flight from time’s relentless march is what makes it so irresistible, so addictive. It’s a place where age is not marked by a calendar. It’s marked by us, with our individual attitudes and desire to throw ourselves into the adventures created by the island, summer after summer. A good example is Hï Ibiza (hiibiza.com), one of this season’s new arrivals and the youngest port of call on the Balearic clubbing scene, with residents including DJ Real Black Cof-
fee and Martin Garrix. Or, for those who prefer something more active, the activities at Rockid (rockidibiza.com), including a relaxing sailing trip round Ibiza and a trekking excursion where visitors can leap from a cliff into the sea, an experience sure to provide a healthy shot of adrenaline. Or what about the lively afternoons for which the Sa Trinxa (satrinxa.com) beach bar is famous, preserving its youthful airs despite its status as a veteran of Ses Salines, one of Ibiza’s most popular beaches among fresh-faced sunbathers. And all this is not to forget Playa d’en Bossa, not only the longest beach on the island but somewhere with a wide range of activities to keep you on the move: the perennial bustle of the Bora Bora beach club, the clubs SWAG Ibiza and Sankeys, the Ushuaïa sessions and, of course, the beautiful people over at Nassau Beach Club (nassaubeachclub. com), which in 2017 will celebrate its tenth birthday – that’s ten years young. But if we turn the binoculars around, in the distance we can make out the audacious juvenescence of the Ibiza of the 60s, 70s and 80s. Every Monday, for example, Pacha (pachaibiza.com) hosts the famous and funpacked Flower Power party, which continues
to draw a diverse crowd. And there is also the mythical Pikes Hotel (pikesibiza.com), where Freddie Mercury celebrated Ibiza’s most famous birthday party in 1987, a venue that has preserved its youthful, non-conformist spirit, despite turning 41 this year, the mother of all halfway markers. To commemorate that party, an event has held in September for several years now, beginning at noon with a charity lunch, whose proceeds go to the Mercury Phoenix Trust. Nearby, but also in Sant Antoni, is Café del Mar, another Ibiza icon from the 80s, which continues to define the rhythms of the island’s most famous sunsets. It’s complemented by the lively pre-parties of Café Mambo, the best point of departure for a night full of youthful promise. Finally, if you find yourself yearning for the decade of shoulder pads and lacquer, head to Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza on Sundays for another season of Children of the 80s, the party that brings back the best music of the period. Because, sooner or later, nostalgia is a phenomenon to which we all succumb. In the words of hedonist F. Scott Fitzgerald in his novel This Side of Paradise: “I don’t want to repeat my innocence. I want the pleasure of losing it again.”

All this has crystallised in Cathylicious, a session that recalls her Supafly party, a point of reference in Parisian nightlife when it used to bring together, every Wednesday, the cream of French society at Les Bains Douches in Paris. After many years centred in electronic music, Cathy Guetta has the impression that urban music is gaining ground on dance floors all over the world. Artists like Drake, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Justin Bieber are a good example, while DJs like David Guetta, Calvin Harris, DJ Snake or Major Lazer are echoing this tendency. Cathylicious wants to be a bridge between both styles, an urban party, sexy and glamorous and one that will surely have people talking this season. Stay tuned.

En su séptimo año, Lío vuelve a sus raíces más cabareteras. “Seremos más picantes, más eróticos… El espectáculo será más cercano al cabaret y menos al teatro musical”, avanza Joan. Fiel al espíritu innovador de Lío, habrá novedades en todos los ámbitos: el restaurante ofrecerá platos nuevos en la carta, el cabaret presentará por primera vez un espectáculo acompañado por música en vivo y el club añade una fiesta nueva: Cathylicius, con la polifacética Cathy Guetta como maestra de ceremonias. Cambios que avalan el espíritu innovador de un espacio único y que auguran, un año más, un éxito sin precedentes. Y ya van siete.

THE SEVEN (SUMMERS) OF A MAGNIFICENT PLACE There are seven days in the week, seven musical notes, seven deadly sins, seven continents and seven colours in the rainbow. We could go on, but the reader has probably reached the conclusion that seven is a special number. That’s why, for the seventh season of Lío –the Pacha brand’s club, restaurant and cabaret– they’ve decided that everything should revolve around this birthday. “Seven is a magic number and has inspired us for the theme this year,” says Joan Gracia, Lío’s artistic director. In this seventh year, Lío is returning to its cabaret roots. “We’ll be more saucy, more erotic… The show will be closer to the cabaret style than to musicals,” he says. Faithful to Lío’s innovative spirit, there will be new touches everywhere: the restaurant will offer new dishes on its menu, for the first time the cabaret will present a show with live music, and the club is adding a new party, Cathylicious, with the versatile Cathy Guetta as mistress of ceremonies. Changes that reflect the innovative spirit of a unique space and augurs huge success for yet another year. Seven of them.

Este chef originario de Manchester lleva más de 20 años en España y solo unos dos meses viviendo en la Ibiza de la que dice que le encanta su gente amable, su clima y por supuesto su gastronomía. Ha trabajado con Martín Berasategui (3* Michelin) y en Casa Nicolasa, considerado uno de los mejores restaurantes de España. Ahora mismo dirige la cocina del restaurante Can Bass en el que destaca su variada carta, cuidadosamente emplatada y llena de sabores, texturas y aromas. Aunque Can Bass también tiene una privilegiada ubicación, una cuidada y acogedora decoración además de una agradable atención al cliente. Un restaurante perfecto en el que el chef Darran pone la guinda. | This Manchester native has been in Spain for more than 20 years but in Ibiza for only two months: he says he loves the island’s friendly people, climate and of course its food. Colabora con varios medios de la isla, edita la revista de periodismo narrativo Negratinta y su último proyecto es dirigir la nueva revista Freedom, donde se mezcla música, gastronomía y arte. Su máxima es contar, a través de un formato muy cuidado y un reposo en los textos, la gran creatividad que hay latiendo en la isla y su vinculación histórica al rock, blues, folk o la psicodelia que se refleja en nuestros días. Y lo consigue gracias a sus posts: sinceros, frescos, irónicos, llenos de insights y, a veces, mordaces como “Yo, hasta que no se tira el primer guiri por un balcón de Ibiza, no saco la ropa de verano”. ¿Su éxito?, tener criterio, ser constante, no atosigar y sobre todo amar Ibiza, la cuna del postureo y de su inspiración. | He/ she has more than 175 followers and counting, something surprising in view of the fact that he isn’t for sale, even though many brands have proposed this. LA NOCHE MÁS CORTA THE SHORTEST NIGHT
Entre el 23 y 24 de junio se celebra en Ibiza, como en otros puntos de la costa española, la llamada noche de San Juan, el solsticio de verano: es la noche más corta del año y la noche previa a la luna nueva, por tanto, la noche que da comienzo a una nueva etapa. Es por eso que tradicionalmente la noche de San Juan se celebra encendiendo hogueras en las playas, quemando el pasado y purificándose con el agua del mar. Tres son los ritos que hay que hacer a las 00:00 de la noche: quemar aquello que queremos borrar de nuestras vidas, darse un baño en el mar y saltar nueve olas (si es de espaldas, mejor) Si te estás preguntando dónde encenderán hogueras en Ibiza, toma nota: en las playas de Ses Figueretes y Talamanca, donde también habrá música, y en los pueblos de Sant Rafel y Sant Josep. Aunque lo suyo es que vayas a Sant Joan, que estará celebrando sus fiestas patronales y donde encienden nueve hogueras que hay que saltar para dejar atrás el pasado y entrar en la nueva etapa renacido.
During the passage between 23 and 24 June, in Ibiza and other points along the Spanish coast, there are celebrations to mark Saint John’s Eve, the summer solstice and thus the shortest night of the year and also the one before the new moon, the beginning of a new stage. Probablemente sea uno de los DJ más solventes de la concurrida escena electrónica. Más de dos décadas de trabajo y fiesta lo avalan. Steve Lawler se conoce Ibiza como la palma de su mano; ha tocado en los principales clubes de la isla: Pacha, Space, Café Mambo… Y, cómo no, Sankeys, el espacio que le ha acogido los últimos cinco años. Esta vez vuelve por partida doble bajo la marca que se encarga de animar todos los domingos: Viva Warriors. Los días que se le podrá ver despachando house sedoso son el 1 de junio y el 4 de octubre. | Probably one of the most consistent DJs in the packed-out electronic music scene, with over two decades of work and partying behind him. Steve Lawler knows Ibiza like the back of his hand and has performed at all the island’s best clubs: Pacha, Space, Café Mambo… And, of course, Sankeys, the venue he’s played for the past five years. This time around there’s double the fun as he’ll be livening up Sundays with his own brand: Viva Warriors. And he’ll be delivering smooth house live on 1 June and 4 October.

Sus fiestas son de la mas solicitadas de toda Ibiza. Es por este motivo que la presencia de David Guetta se hace necesaria en la mayoría de clubes de la Isla Blanca. Uno de los que ya ha anunciado su cita semanal es Ushuaïa, que contará con el francés todos los lunes, entre el 12 de junio y el 28 de agosto. Es el sexto año que Guetta repite con un concepto firmado por él en la discoteca de Plaja d’en Bossa. Una experiencia donde creatividad y hedonismo se dan la mano, con uno de los diseños escénicos y de producción más sobresalientes de todo el circuito nocturno. | His parties are amongst the most popular in Ibiza, which is what makes David Guetta a must-have DJ for most of the White Isle’s clubs. One that’s already announced weekly appearances is Ushuaïa, where the French star will be performing every Monday from 12 June to 28 August. LOS LUNES DE LA FELICIDAD JOYFUL MONDAYS Si has llegado a este punto de la revista, ya te habrás dado cuenta de que Pacha ha cumplido 50 años. Sin embargo no somos los únicos que estamos de aniversario. El mejor disco de todos los tiempos (o eso dicen las numerosas listas que se hacen al respecto) también cumple medio siglo. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, publicado por The Beatles en 1967, se ha convertido en un referente, musical y estético, para todo lo que ha venido después. Su canción principal, la que da título al álbum, es un himno de la noche Flower Power. Su portada, fiel reflejo de la época, retrató a gente tan dispar como a Bob Dylan, Fred Astaire, Mae West, el ocultista Aleister Crowley, el psiquiatra Carl Gustav Jung y otras 70 personalidades de lo más dispares. Este es también el espíritu de Flower Power, una fiesta en la que, al estilo libre de Ibiza, princesas y bohemios, artistas y celebridades, ibicencos y viajeros comparten pista, risas y bailes, unidos por el amor por la isla y la música de los 60.
Apunta bien esta fecha. El 29 de mayo arranca la trigésimo séptima temporada de Flower Power, y desde entonces hasta el 2 de octubre los lunes serán los nuevos viernes. 19 sesiones que llenarán el verano de color, diversión, psicodelia, espectáculo, ritmo y felicidad. Flower Power es una fiesta creada bajo la idea original de DJ Piti y con el desarrollo artístico de la promotora Made in Italy. Todo ello en una casa como Pacha, parte ya de la historia del movimiento hippie y de la cultura musical de la isla. If you have reached this point in the magazine, you will know that Pacha is celebrating its 50th anniversary. However, we are not the only ones celebrating. The best album of all time (according to the many rankings produced in this area) has also made it to half a century. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, released by The Beatles in 1967, became a musical and aesthetic landmark for everything that came after. Its eponymous main song is a hymn for the Flower Power
night. Its cover, a faithful reflection of the time, included a wide range of people, such as Bob Dylan, Fred Astaire, Mae West, the occultist Aleister Crowley, the psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung and 70 other personalities from all kinds of fields. This is the also the spirit of Flower Power, a party which, in the free Ibiza style, brings together princesses and bohemians, artists and celebrities, locals and travellers, all of whom share the dancefloor, fun and a love for the island and for 1960s music. Take note: on 29 May, the 37th season of Flower Power will begin, and from then until 2 October, Mondays will be the new Fridays. 19 sessions which will fill the summer with colour, fun, psychedelia, spectacle, rhythm and joy. Flower Power is an event created on the basis of the original idea by DJ Piti, with the artistic development of the Made in Italy promoters. All of this in a venue like Pacha, part of the history of the hippie movement and the island’s musical culture.

▸ Si no te gusta pasarte todo el día tumbado en la hamaca, ve a la playa de Ses Salines donde podrás combinar los momentos de relax con un agradable ruta por el Parque Natural de Ses Salines. Este recorrido circular presenta dificultad baja y una extensión de cuatro kilómetros de longitud, gran parte de la cual transita por un bosque de pinos. El final del sendero lo marca la Torre de Ses Portes, levantada a finales del siglo XVI. Desde este punto tendrás una fantástica panorámica sobre la playa de Es Cavallet, Formentera y los islotes del canal des Freus. La vuelta se puede realizar desandando el camino o siguiendo la línea costera en dirección
a la playa de Ses Salines. ▸ If you prefer not to spend all day slouched in a hammock, then head for Ses Salines beach, where you can combine sheer relaxation with a pleasant walk in the Ses Salines Nature Park. This circular route is an easy 4km-long stroll, mostly through a forest of pine trees. The Ses Portes Tower, built in the late 16th century, marks the end of the trail. From there, you’ll have fantastic views of Es Cavallet beach, Formentera and the islets of the Es Freus straits. To head back, retrace your steps or follow the coastline towards Ses Salines beach.

▸ Será imposible que tus vacaciones no coincidan con alguno de los mercadillos que se celebran en Ibiza porque todos los días de la semana se organiza alguno. Los martes, viernes y domingos se instala durante todo el día un mercadillo de moda y artesanía en la entrada a Cala Benirrás, por ejemplo. Los miércoles, el célebre Mercadillo Hippy de Punta Arabí, en Es Canar, reúne más de 500 puestos de artesanía, complementos y productos gastronómicos. Las noches de los jueves se organiza en la calle principal de Sant Rafel un mercado de trabajos artesanales. El famoso mercadillo jipi de Las Dalias, en Sant Carles, se celebra todos los sábados de 10 a 20 horas, aunque en plena temporada también podrás ir de compras las noches de los lunes y los martes. Las mañanas de los sábados también se monta el Mercadillo de Forada, en la carretera de Sant Rafel a Santa Agnès, donde se vende fruta y hortalizas de Ibiza, además de mermeladas caseras, dulces y artesanía. También hay productos frescos y artesanía en el Mercadillo de Sant Joan, que se celebra las mañanas de los domingos, el mismo día que en cala Llenya se juntan vendedores y compradores de piezas de segunda mano.
▸ It’s impossible for your holidays not to coincide with one of the street markets held in Ibiza because there’s one every day of the week. On Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, for example, there’s the all-day fashion and craft market at the entrance to Cala Benirrás. On Wednesdays, the famous hippy market at Punta Arabí, in Es Canar, brings together over 500 stalls offering crafts, accessories and gastronomic delights. Thursday nights see artisan-made goods along the main street in Sant Rafel. The renowned Las Dalias hippy market, meanwhile, is held every Saturday from 10am to 8pm, although in high season you can shop there on Monday and Tuesday nights too. On Saturday mornings there’s the Mercadillo de Forada, on the road from Sant Rafel to Santa Agnès, where you’ll find fruit and vegetables produced in Ibiza, along with home-made jams, confectionary and crafts. Fresh produce and artisan wares are also to be found at the Mercadillo de Sant Joan, which takes place on Sunday morning while, at the same time, traders and bargain hunters meet up at the second-hand market in Cala Llenya.
