OYC Miami Annual Report 2023-2024

LETTER FROM CEO

Breathe In……. Breathe Out……..

As I reminisce on this past year, there was quite a lot to take in!

From welcoming our students and our families into their new home in August of 2023 …..to celebrating the grand opening of our new facility & 20 years of service …..to witnessing our communities, evolve at lightning speed…… to witnessing the resilience of our team who worked tirelessly to lift up HOPE and manifest GREATNESS in the 10,000+ individual lives we touched.

While there were so many notable and remarkable achievements to highlight, there were many critical decisions made to advance our mission, seize critical moments, expand our impact, and to sustain our efforts long term.

OYC Miami embarked on a multi-pronged strategic planning process to include evaluating our core competencies, impact, internal growth edges, external challenges and opportunities for expanded services.

Entering our 21st year of services, OYC Miami has joined forces with Housing Developer, Joined Development to extend services to 214 families of Liberty City; providing family support, advocacy and youth services to those residing in Lincoln Fields now Buena Vista.

Recognizing the growing need for health services, OYC Miami has launched a state-of-the-art telehealth kiosk, the OnMed Care Station to provide immediate access to healthcare and wrap around services to all those that are uninsured or underinsured.

Bearing witness to the daily economic struggles of families in the areas of housing, food and other basic necessities, OYC is proud to launch

Neat Stuff Closets within 13 schools to provide basic need items such as hygiene products, new or lightly used clothing and shoes, uniforms, and school supplies for our students across Miami Dade County,

As a testament to our work, OYC Miami was awarded a $2M McKinsey Scott grant, of which, 80% of this award will provide housing, food and utility relief to families in distress.

As our communities continue to evolve, OYC will continue to sustainably pivot; providing our communities an opportunity to Breathe Out and not suffocate on life’s inequalities and lack of resources……

OYC remains steadfast and committed to providing support to inspire, empower and enrich the lives of those who need our support; thanks to our Founders, Alonzo Mourning and Tracy Wilson Mourning, our Board of Directors, our Team, our volunteers, partners and our Philanthropic Community.

Yours in Service

TESTIMONIALS

“I recently went on a college tour to Washington DC with Honey Shine. We attended Howard University where the founder of Honey Shine Ms. Tracy Wilson attended school. Being on campus and learning about the school was a great experience. During the visit we saw alot of college students campaigning for an upcoming election it was interesting to see the involvement on a college level. We also visited Georgetown University where Mr. Alonzo Mourning attended college. During the visit at Georgetown so see a wall with Mr. Mourning was refreshing to know where he started after high school to where is his today. The college experience for both schools were amazing. During the week we were exposed to the life of a college student as if we were staying off campus.”

“I am a student at Miami Norland senior high school enrolled in the 9th grade. Over spring break 2024, I was able to experience a college tour to Washington DC honey Shine style. I really enjoyed the trip and can’t wait for next year’s. I will forever cherish the unique experience and all the fun times I had during the duration of the trip. We were able to see in person different college communities and campus life so we could be prepared for when it’s our time to graduate. This adventure helped me understand what my life will eventually be like as a college student. All thanks to Honey Shine!”

“Lorena W. is the epitome of the ideal student. I have had the pleasure of working with Lorena for the past two years. When I told her about the Honey Shine program she immediately wanted to join. When we have events off site, she is the first one to register and attend. Her parents were very impressed with the Girls Aviation Day and loved the idea of their daughter being able to board a plane with other dynamic young girls and women in aviation. Lorena is a young girl who sees opportunities to improve her academic success and social skills and jumps on them. She knows the value of Honey Shine and what we can offer her. She is always humble and appreciative of the daily catered meals, tutoring services and SEL activities.”
