I NEVER DREAMED...

that 20 years would go by this fast. 20 years of impact, empowerment and transformation. OYC was founded as a comprehensive community center for youth in the Overtown and surrounding communities, as I saw an imperative need to provide a welcoming, safe and motivating place that would give people a chance at success. Today, OYC Miami has grown into a thriving community and family resource center that serves not only as a beacon, but also as a catalyst for change. We are strategic in creating a bridge, that allows persons to access services and programs in areas such as education, college and workplace readiness, financial literacy and health and wellness.

I am proud to be a part of the legacy that is OYC MIAMI. I am proud of the footprints it has carved out in our community, which serves as positive tidal wave that will propel future generations forward. I am very proud of the expansion of our building, which is a testament to the growth and impact we have achieved over the past two decades.

As we celebrate this milestone, let us not forget the challenges that lie ahead. There is still much work to be done in our community, and OYC Miami will continue to be at the forefront of that work. We will continue to adapt and innovate, ensuring that our programs remain relevant and effective in addressing the evolving needs of our community. I invite you to join us in our mission of impact, empowerment, and transformation. Whether through volunteering, donating, or spreading the word about our organization, your support is crucial in helping us create a brighter future.

Our history

OYC Miami was founded in 2003, as the Overtown Youth Center, by NBA Hall-of-Famer Alonzo Mourning and real estate developer Martin Z. Margulies. OYC Miami is a 501©3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire, empower, and enrich the lives of youth, adults, and families by providing a comprehensive and long-term approach to strengthening communities. With a vision to deliver high quality services through a framework designed to bridge educational, social, emotional, health, and economic gaps; OYC Miami is optimizing the full potential of those we serve.

OYC Miami’s stellar history includes momentous milestones that have been the stepping stones that the organization has continuously built upon. Adopting the Self Enhancement Model, which was founded and created by Tony Hopson, Sr., OYC Miami has grown into a leading and trusted community resource center which lays the pathway for future success to not only youth, but families and adults as well. As OYC Miami continues to build and expand, it remains steadfast in its mission to inspire, empower, enrich and expose ...while simultaneously Empowering Lives and Transforming Communities.

Over the last 20 years, OYC Miami has continuously expanded its reach, programs, and resources to better serve the South Florida community. With a record of astounding accomplishments, OYC is advancing the socio-economic trajectory of children and families for future generations. Through Five Key Pillars of Impact; Education, Enrichment & Exposure, Health & Wellness, Family Services, as well as Economic Sustainability, OYC has and will continue to shift the narrative of Miami’s most resilient communities.

From just a dream… to reality…. 20 years later

OYC MIAMI!

The completion of the new OYC Miami building marks a significant milestone in our journey from just a dream to a reality. Seven years ago, OYC Miami embarked on a Capital Campaign, spearheaded by our CEO Tina Brown, and led by Alonzo Mourning and Tracy Wilson Mourning, who worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life.

Through more than 160 fundraising events and close to 300 facility tours, the community rallied behind us, showing their support and belief in our mission. With over 13,000 hours of dedicated manpower, we have built a state-of-the-art 56,000 square foot facility designed by Kobi Karp, a testament to our commitment to providing the best services and programs for our community.

The new OYC Miami building not only represents a physical structure but also symbolizes our dedication to empowering lives and transforming communities. It serves as a beacon of hope and opportunity, a place where individuals can access resources, support, and opportunities for growth. With this new facility, we are poised to expand our reach and serve even more people, making a positive impact on countless lives.

As we look to the future, we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. The new OYC Miami building is not just a space but a promise—a promise to continue our mission of empowerment, transformation, and community impact. Together, we will make a difference, one life at a time.
