From The Principal’s Desk Dear Parents, The month of October was celebrated as the Science and English month with the value of Creativity and Curiosity’ with a wide array of activities and special presentations including quizzes, Competitions, Debates, TED Talks, which provided cross curricular links and association to real life scenarios. Campaigns, special events, trips and competitions marked the month where students’ active and enthusiastic participation ensured that each event was successful. Honing their skills of collaborative work, critical thinking, problem solving and effective communication, groups of students effectively organised many activities that demonstrated their commitment to contribute to the community and become strong global citizens. We had our first Coffee Afternoon with parents and shared the School Action Plan along with Assessment Policy. We plan to conduct many Parents Workshop on relevant topics leading to ideas and support to help develop 21st century skills in our students. I would like to request parents to attend the coffee mornings and share their ideas on school improvement as well as other areas related to students. I would also like your support in encouraging your children to be punctual towards all their commitments and to follow the school rules effectively. Best regards,

Importance of Play in EYFS Play underpins the EYFS. Through play, children develop language skills, their emotions and creativity, social and intellectual skills. Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. Play is important to healthy brain development. At Oxford, our children enjoy LEARNING through PLAY

Hands- on Activities Studies show that students learn best when learning is active, when they are engaged in hands-on classroom games and activities and involved in what they are learning. Scientists believe that when children use all of their senses it helps the brain create pathways that make it easier and quicker to retain information. At Oxford, our students enjoy learning through hands-on activities

FIELD TRIP Little Explorers Foundation stage students went to little explorers on 17th October 2018.They were very excited to explore different corners in the play area. They explored with water, building blocks, puzzles and mechanical toys. They played in the water area using different objects like buckets, balls etc. They used construction material to build pretend houses. They also had group sessions in different exploration corners. Our little FS students thoroughly enjoyed their first trip of the year

SANDWICH MAKING ACTIVITY Developing life skills for children is a great way to encourage independence, practice fine-motor skills, and foster self-confidence. Sandwich Making is an important life skill that children as young as 3 can do with assistance. Once mastered, children will enjoy feeling the success of making their own lunch and snacks.

SCITED aimed to provide a platform for thinkers and visionaries, so that people around us can gain a better understanding of the world, and feed a desire to help create a better future. Core to this goal was a belief that there is no greater force for changing the world than a powerful idea. Students of all year levels from year 1 to 13 participated in this event.

The Oxford School Dubai believes that equally important to inculcating any forms of knowledge among the students is impressing interest in them which will be made possible through series of fun activities wherein they could be allowed to show their creativity and do the output that they could definitely take pride on. In this regards, the host department of the recently celebrated English and Science month thought of an activity called “Magic Window”. The aim of the said activity was to provide an avenue for the whole class to visualize and work together to be able to produce a very creative and beautiful work of art – a collection of Science Fiction images and related thoughts on the month’s theme, “Curiosity and Creativity”, which were undeniably worth pondering upon.

Excitement is an understatement as to how we could describe the kids as they did the organizing, cutting, and pasting of their images to their respective windows, and the result was indeed a magic! They were creative, beautiful, and of course educational. Looking at the Magic Windows, one could see the variety of science fiction images, the admirable quotes on curiosity and creativity and most importantly, the effort, enthusiasm, and dedication of our beloved students

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS "Caring for the mind is as important and crucial as caring for the body. In fact, one cannot be healthy without the other" - Garza Hillman The Oxford School, believes in holistic development of the students and therefore, we observed October as Mental Awareness month. Assemblies on the theme of Mental awareness were conducted across all the year levels. A mental health awareness survey was conducted for the students of Year 5 - 13, to understand the level of mental health awareness among the students. During the circle time, students were shown a video on “Importance of seeking help for Mental health issues. Followed by the video, students filled in the survey questionnaire. Activities will be planned based on the results of the survey. Staff of the school were also involved in the survey. A Mental health stall was put up by the students, with the information on various mental health issues and the general coping strategies. Many students and teachers visited the stall and shared that they gained more information on mental health issues, especially the coping strategies. Many parents visited the stall on October 27th, ( on the day of Parent teacher meeting). Majority of the parents appreciated the effort of the school and the attempt to create awareness on mental health issues. Few parents, took pictures of the stall to share the information with others and they liked the idea of sharing the coping strategies which might be of help to them.
