VISION

FOUNDATION

From The Principal’s Desk Dear Parents, January is prone to be amalgamated with new ideas, adorned with ambitions, promises, and rejuvenated endeavours. While a fresh start may be the way forward for many, it remains true that experiences and choices we have made in our past, sculpt us into what we are in the present, and influence us onward the future trail. Learning from any atypical block in the path from the past, to the finest of our many feats, we are onward the road of enhancement. Gaining from our past reviews, whether supremely successful, or dreadfully disastrous, is the true trait of learning and the hallmark of sustainable improvement. Our students continue to thrive in all areas both academically and extracurricular, while our dedicated staff continue to work with fortitude, daily to make Oxford a noteworthy school. A few tips for you to support your children’s learning journey: Ensure that your child comes to school every day and on time. • Support them to make healthy choices in food and encourage them to exercise regularly. • Encourage them to sleep on time for minimum of eight hours. • Establish a routine for daily studying and homework. • Promote a reading habit in your child • Support the school by attending all school events and activities • Be firm and consistent with the rules at home and have regular conversations about their rights and responsibilities • Talk frequently about Cyber safety and ensure safe internet usage at home. • Celebrate the smallest of your child’s success and be supportive when things do not go well. We are committed to providing absorbing learning opportunities which engage all our students, ensuring that they are involved in developing their skills in the best possible manner. We encourage everyone to be tolerant, punctual, treat each other with respect and enjoy school. The support of the parent community is hugely appreciated.

Best regards,

Aisha Ansari Principal

Children showed great excitement as they entered the class, all dressed up in their fancy costumes. Among the girls, Elsa and Anna from Disney Frozen were the popular hits. The boys preferred characters from Marvel Comics like Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Iron Man etc. Also, all-time classics children’s story characters of Red Riding Hood, Thumbelina, Rapunzel, and Cinderella were seen. Children also spoke and shared with their peers about their characters. It was great fun for children and adults alike.

They observed the different body parts‌and had the opportunity to touch and feel the skin and scales‌they even had a go at descaling it. They observed and pointed out unique body parts like gills and fins; noticed also that fish have eyes and a mouth. They talked about the purpose of different body parts; fish breathe using gills and use their fins and tails to swim.

Floral garden Children see the world differently through their wonderful eyes and inspire us to do the same. Our little FS children have planted beautiful flowers in their floral garden. They have taken the initiative in preparing the soil‌planting‌and are now watering them daily... observing their growth. Children learn new skills, have fun, play and develop self-confidence by spending time in the garden.

POEM ON SPORTS 5:30AM Waking up in the morning, how I wish it’s 7 o’clock Maintaining a routine is too much of a task I've been living my life in a very odd way Wasting all my time on online games Every night I get a good rest Always ready to do my best Wake up early, rise and shine Check the clock, half past five 7:35AM In school, we have instructions to follow My heads in the clouds I always forget to do so My teachers are worried because I’m so off track But all I am thinking about is sleeping at the back Ready to learn, I go to school A healthy breakfast is my fuel Active in class, I raise my hand This is what I do to better understand 2:30PM Reaching home by 3 or 4 I always want to stay indoors Repeating this cycle for over 195 days Over and over, each and every day. After class, I run and jump Working out, not being a lump Later on, I’ll spend my time at the park Exercise as I dream to be Tony Stark. By Dabeer and Diyab 9B2

CIRCLE TIME ACTIVITY PROBLEM SOLVING HOW DUBAI WILL BECOME THE WORLD’S MOST SUSTAINABLE CITY?

Over the past century, Dubai has experienced a dramatic transformation. Dubai currently has a population of over 2.1 million people and receives between 8-10 million visitors per year. Today, Dubai is regarded as one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. As we approach Expo 2020, Emiratis will discover what makes a sustainable city, and in particular, how Dubai will become the world’s most sustainable city. Three main pillars of sustainability: •Environmental, •Economic and •Social sustainability. Ultimately, the key goal of any sustainable city should be to provide residents and workers with the highest quality of life together with the lowest environmental footprint. QUESTIONS TO PONDER • How can Dubai meet its sustainability (Environment, Economic and social) ambitions? Share your suggestions. • Make a poster to show the road to future sustainable Dubai.

Dubai, also recently announced plans for additional sustainable projects such as the Desert Rose, a 14,000-hectare smart city expected to accommodate 20,000 plots for Emiratis and will cost 20 billion AED to build. This pattern became increasingly apparent, after Dubai recently set targets for itself to become one of the most sustainable cities by 2020. Dubai has built a remarkably resilient economic diversity in a short period of time. The growing development boom is clearly going to set a challenge for Dubai to achieve its sustainability ambitions by 2020. Therefore for the UAE, the need to start developing more sustainable cities at various scales is no longer a choice if they are going to provide a future with a higher quality of life for their citizens and to protect their environment.
