Queridos amigos: Tengo el placer de presentaros los CSI2* Maeza. En esta primera edición hemos puesto ilusión y cariño a partes iguales para que sean eventos deportivos de peso sin perder de vista la cercanía y la familiaridad. Desde 2018, año en el que nos instalamos en Sariego, Maeza ha desarrollado una creciente actividad deportiva que, lamentablemente, se vio frenada por las alertas sanitarias. En este periodo nos hemos volcado en nuestra actividad ganadera, que este año nos ha premiado con ocho nacimientos, ocho CDE de los que estamos muy orgullosos. 2021 nos acerca de nuevo a la competición con la organización de dos concursos internacionales. Para este proyecto contamos con la veteranía y profesionalidad de Oxer Sport. También tenemos el firme propósito de que esta edición sea la primera de muchas. Siempre nuestro agradecimiento al Ayuntamiento de Sariego y, sobre todo, a nuestros vecinos de este maravilloso concejo de la Comarca de la Sidra por su apoyo. ¡Comenzamos!

Dear friends: I am pleased to introduce you to the CSI2 * Maeza. In this first edition we have put enthusiasm and affection in equal measure so that they are important sporting events without losing sight of the closeness and familiarity. Since 2018, the year in which we settled in Sariego, Maeza has developed a growing sporting activity that, unfortunately, was slowed down by health alerts. In this period we have turned our attention to our livestock activity, which this year has rewarded us with eight births, eight Spanish Sport Horse of which we are very proud. 2021 brings us back to competition with the organization of two international competitions. For this project we count on the experience and professionalism of Oxer Sport. We also have the firm intention that this edition will be the first of many. Always our gratitude to the Sariego City Council and, above all, to our neighbors of this wonderful council of the Cider Region for their support. Let’s start! MAEZA

Gerardo ¿Cómo empezaste en el mundo del caballo? Empecé de muy pequeño en el Forcón donde mi abuelo me llevó a montar por primera vez. Mis primeros pinitos como profesional fueron en hípica de Meres donde empecé mi trayectoria dando clases como profesor, pero desde pequeño siempre estuve compitiendo. El nombre de Gerardo Menéndez siempre ha estado ligado al máximo nivel ¿Cuál es la clave para poder llegar a estar entre los mejores? Bueno yo intenté siempre formarme lo mejor

posible, trabajar duro y aprender de los mejores. Hoy en día creo que sigo aprendiendo cosas... ¡En este deporte nunca se deja de aprender! Todo gran jinete tiene un caballo en el recuerdo ¿Cuál es el de Gerardo y porqué? Tengo varios caballos que me hace mucha ilusión recordar, pero sin duda Cassino y Costello cambiaron mi vida por todo lo que he conseguido gracias a ellos. ¿En qué momento de tu carrera dirías que te encuentras ahora mismo? Estoy en un momento un poco de transición.

Gerardo, how did you start in the horse world? I started when I was very young at the Forcón where my grandfather took me riding for the first time. My first steps as a professional were in the Meres Equestrian Center where I started my career as a teacher, but since I was a child I was always competing.

Gerardo Menéndez’s name has always been linked to the top level. What is the key to being among the best? Well, I always tried to train as best as possible, work hard and learn from the best. Nowadays I think I’m still learning things... In this sport you never stop learning! Hemos vendido a nuestros mejores caballos y estamos intentando preparar los jóvenes y recuperar el nivel. La hípica en Asturias vuelve a estar auge ¿Qué se siente al poder disfrutar en casa de unos eventos de carácter internacional como los que organiza CSI Maeza? Es una maravilla poder competir en Asturias en concursos internacionales y que la región vuelva al lugar que se merece. Aún más cuando se hacen en unas instalaciones como Yeguada Finca Maeza que son increíbles. La hípica es un deporte en alza pero ¿Cuál crees que es la formula definitiva para impulsar este deporte en nuestro país? Creo que es un deporte que esta creciendo mucho. Necesitamos que se promocione mucho, que sea visible en los medios. ¿Con cuántos caballos te veremos competir estos días en el CSI Maeza? ¿Te ves con expectativas? Salto con 3 caballos de 8 años ¡espero hacer un buen concurso! Every great rider has a horse in his memory, which is Gerardo’s and why? I have several horses that I am very excited to remember, but without a doubt Cassino and Costello changed my life because of everything I have achieved thanks to them. At what point in your career would you say you are right now? I’m in a bit of a transition. We have sold our best horses and we are trying to prepare the young ones and recover the level. Equestrianism in Asturias is blooming again. How does it feel to be able to enjoy international events such as those organized by CSI Maeza at home? It’s wonderful to be able to compete in Asturias in international competitions and for the region to return to the place it deserves. Even more so when they are held in facilities like Yeguada Finca Maeza, which are incredible. Equestrianism is a sport on the rise, but what do you think is the definitive formula to promote this sport in our country? I think it is a sport that is growing a lot. We need it to be promoted a lot, to be visible in the media. How many horses will we see you competing these days at the CSI Maeza? Do you have expectations? I am jumping with three 8-year-old horses, I hope to have a good competition! We wish you good luck 2021

José de la Riera

¿Quién es José de la Riera? Pues soy un profesor de dibujo, que ha desarrollado su labor artística como pintor y como escultor, participando en diversas exposiciones, como la Exposición Universal de Sevilla, donde expuse en el Pabellón de España, así como en el Museo Jovellanos de Gijón, y en múltiples exposiciones individuales, como la del Museo Antón de Candas, “la Huella del Teeteto”. Resumiendo, tengo obras en la Fundación Ortega y Gasset, de Madrid, en el Museo Jovellanos de Gijón, en el Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias, en el Ayuntamiento de Arlöw, en Suecia, en el Ayuntamiento de Luarca, con la escultura homenaje a Severo Ochoa, “La Ausencia y la Presencia”… ¿Qué le inspira a la hora de esculpir sus obras? Yo creo que la propia historia del arte, una lectura, y los clásicos, sobre todo Platón, inventor de la geometría de los sólidos. De los griegos heredamos la armonía, la proporción, el equilibrio y el orden, en definitiva, la belleza. ¿Qué materiales trabaja y cuál es el porqué? Trabajo sobre todo el hierro y también la arcilla, aunque menos. El hierro nace de la tierra y cuando veo una de mis esculturas sobre la hierba, es como si también naciera de la tierra. MAEZA

El hierro es masa, pero también me permite el hueco, potenciar el protagonismo del vacío. Los trofeos que entreguemos en el evento a los jinetes ganadores, ¿serán piezas exclusivas? Si claro, son para el CSI Maeza. ¿Qué las caracteriza? La rotundidad del acero y el hueco, que en este caso es el protagonista y que hace alusión a la cabeza del caballo. ¿Qué le motivó a colaborar con el CSI Maeza? Sobretodo mi amistad con Cruz, que me brindó esta oportunidad de seguir conectado de alguna manera al mundo de la hípica, que echo de menos. He estado ligado al mundo del caballo durante unos años, a través de mi hija, que aunque ahora está de descanso forzoso a causa de sus estudios, creo que recuperará su afición en cuanto pueda Who is José de la Riera? What inspires you when sculpting your works? I believe that the history of art itself, a reading, and the classics, especially Plato, inventor of the geometry of solids. From the Greeks we inherited harmony, proportion, balance and order, in short, beauty. What materials do you work with and why? I work mainly with iron and also with clay, although less so. Iron is born from the earth and when I see one of my sculptures on the grass, it is as if it was also born from the earth. Iron

What characterizes them? The rotundity of the steel and the hollow, which in this case is the protagonist and alludes to the horse’s head. What motivated you to collaborate with CSI Maeza? Above all my friendship with Cruz, who gave me this opportunity to stay connected in some way to the equestrian world, which I miss. I have been linked to the horse world for a few years, through my daughter, who although she is now on forced rest because of her studies, I believe she will recover her hobby as soon as she can.

¿Cómo nace la idea de Yeguada Finca Maeza? Cuando llegamos a España en 2008, después de residir en centroeuropa, no encontramos una instalación que encajara con nuestras necesidades y optamos por lanzarnos a hacerla “a medida”. No debe ser nada fácil la gestión de un centro hípico ¿Cuál es el secreto para el éxito en este negocio? En ambas vertientes, deportiva y ganadera, se trata de tener colaboradores involucrados en el proyecto, sin miedo al trabajo y que comparten nuestra filosofía de constancia y paciencia. Lanzarse al mundo de la cría es todo un desafío que por el contrario genera enorme satisfacción ¿Qué significa para Cruz y la familia Bares su yeguada? Es algo de lo que disfrutamos toda la familia, compartimos la ilusión y nos entusiasma todo el proceso: desde la elección del semental para la yegua hasta el parto. La época de nacimientos es la más intensa y emocionante. ¿Cuántos caballos tiene ahora mismo la Finca entre cría y caballos a pleno rendimiento? Ahora mismo tenemos 58 ejemplares. Esto supone mucho personal trabajando los 365 días 24 horas… Somos 25 personas, entre mozos, jinetes, mantenimiento y oficina, todos muy implicados. Estoy muy orgullosa de las personas que forman Maeza.

CSI MAEZA Por si fuera poco, ahora se lanzan al mundo de la competición internacional… ¿Quién tomó la decisión de dar el paso?

En agosto de 2019 nos estrenamos con un CSN3* que fue un éxito. Los propios participantes nos animaron a iniciar esta aventura y una vez que consultamos con nuestro equipo, todos estaban a favor de solicitarlos. Así lo hicimos y la FEI los aprobó. En 2020 no pudo ser, pero aquí estamos este año. La hípica siempre ha tenido enorme tradición en Asturias, precisamente de esta tierra salen muchos de nuestros mejores jinetes internacionales ¿Cómo se encuentra ahora mismo el sector? Cierto, Asturias ha dado grandísimos jinetes y el futuro vuelve a ser esperanzador. Hay un buen número de jinetes y amazonas muy jóvenes que viene pisando fuerte, pero si es cierto que sufrimos un periodo complicado asociado a la crisis económica. Afortunadamente el buen trabajo de clubes y federación está empezando a dar frutos. Despacio pero sin pausa. ¿Qué nos va a ofrecer este primer CSI Maeza? Esperamos ofrecer un concurso cómodo, donde todo el mundo se sienta en casa. Hemos preparado con mimo las instalaciones para recibir a los participantes y visitantes y ofrecemos una bolsa de premios interesantes. Tres pruebas de ranking en dos fines de semana. Este evento será un fuerte empuje económico para la zona, ¿cómo lo reciben los vecinos? Siempre intentamos que nuestros proveedores sean del concejo o de la mancomunidad como primera opción. Y eso se valora mucho. Nuestros vecinos siempre nos han apoyado y están deseando asistir como público. No podemos olvidar que hace años Sariego era escenario de un concurso de saltos en verano, por lo que hay una importante afición.

LA FINCA Las Instalaciones Yeguada Finca Maeza son impresionantes y cuentan con lo último en tecnología e infraestructura pero además, el edificio principal fue finalista en los premios Asturias de Arquitectura. Cuéntenos, ¿de quién es el proyecto? El proyecto es de la arquitecta gijonesa Verónica Durán, autora de varios proyectos en la región. Entendió desde el principio nuestras necesidades y filosofía y planteó la combinación de estética y funcionalidad para desarrollar una instalación práctica. El enclave donde se sitúa es quizá uno de los más bonitos que tengamos en España ¿era el lugar ideal para desarrollar el centro o fue pura casualidad? Buscábamos ubicación en la zona central de Asturias. Cuando tuvimos la posibilidad de adquirir los primeros terrenos y visitamos la zona nos enamoramos del valle de Sariego que, además, es una zona muy ganadera. ¿Qué otras cualidades o ventajas destacarías de Yeguada Finca Maeza?

Siempre intentamos mejorar, tratamos de desarrollar el trabajo de forma muy organizada: todos y cada uno de los miembros del equipo son fundamentales. Y por supuesto, el bienestar de los caballos es lo primero. Cuál diría es el gran proyecto a futuro de Yeguada Finca Maeza. Tenemos varias cosas sobre la mesa... pero no se pueden contar. También mucha ilusión en los ejemplares que tenemos en competición. Dantic de Maeza, de 8 años ya ha ganado algunas pruebas interesantes y nos gusta mucho ver la evolución de los caballos jóvenes. Seguir trabajando es el mejor proyecto.

It is something that the whole family enjoys, we share the illusion and we are enthusiastic about the whole process: from the choice of the stallion for the mare to the foaling. The foaling season is the most intense and exciting. How many horses does the Farm have right now between breeding and horses at full performance? Right now we have 58 horses. This means a lot of staff working 365 days 24 hours a day.... We are 25 people, between grooms, riders, maintenance and office, all very involved. I am very proud of the people who make up Maeza.

CSI MAEZA As if that wasn’t enough, now you are launching into the world of international competition... Who made the decision to take the step? In August 2019 we made our debut with a CSN3* that was a success. The participants themselves encouraged us to start this adventure and once we consulted with our team, everyone was in favor of applying for them. So we did and the FEI approved them. In 2020 it could not be, but here we are this year. Equestrianism has always had a huge tradition in Asturias, precisely from this land come many of our best international riders. How is the sector right now? True, Asturias has given us great riders and the future is once again hopeful. There are a good number of very young riders who are coming on strong, but it is true that we are going through a complicated period associated with the economic crisis. Fortunately the good work of clubs and

This event will be a strong economic boost for the area, how are the locals receiving it? We always try that our suppliers are from the council or the association of municipalities as first option. And that is very much appreciated. Our neighbors have always supported us and are eager to attend as an audience. We can’t forget that years ago Sariego was the scene of a summer show jumping competition, so there is an important hobby.

THE FARm The Yeguada Finca Maeza facilities are impressive and have the latest technologies and infrastructure but also the main building, was finalist in the Asturias Architecture Awards. Tell us, whose project is it? The project is by an architect from Gijón, Verónica Durán, author of several projects in the region. She understood from the beginning our needs and philosophy and proposed the combination of aesthetics and functionality to develop a practical installation. The environment where it is located is perhaps one of the most beautiful, we have in Spain, was it the ideal place to develop the center or was it pure chance? We were looking for a location in the central area of Asturias. When we had the possibility of acquiring the first terrains and visited the area, we fell in love with the valley of Sariego, which is also a very cattle-raising area. What other qualities or advantages would you highlight about Yeguada Finca Maeza? We always try to improve, we try to develop the work in a very organized way: each and every member of the team is fundamental. And of course, the welfare of the horses comes first. What would be the great future project of Yeguada Finca Maeza? We have several things on the table... but we can’t tell them. We are also very excited about the horses we have in competition. Dantic de Maeza an 8 years old, has already won some interesting competitions and we really like to see the evolution of young horses. To keep working is the best project.

El salto de obstáculos es una disciplina ecuestre olímpica en la que caballos y jinetes compiten para superar un recorrido de salto, previamente diseñado por un jefe de pista, con el menor número de faltas y en el tiempo más rápido. Si dos jinetes están empatados en número de faltas, el tiempo será el factor determinante para designar al ganador.

Show jumping is an Olympic equestrian discipline in which horses and riders compete to overcome a jumping course, previously designed by a course designer, with the least number of faults and in the fastest time. If two riders are tied in number of faults, time will be the determining factor in designating the winner.

• Sobrepasar el tiempo asignado también suma puntos: 1 punto por cada 3 segundos encima del tiempo permitido.

• Exceeding the allowed time also adds points: 1 point for every 3 seconds over the allowed time.

Tipos de pruebas que veremos en el CSI Maeza

En función de la prueba se establece un baremo diferente diferente: A con cronómetro sin desempate: tiempo y puntos serán monitorizados durante todo el recorrido. Quien termine todos los obstáculos con el menor número de puntos acumulados y en el menor tiempo, gana. 2 fases: todos los jinetes que lleguen a la mitad del recorrido sin cometer faltas podrán continuar el recorrido. A partir de ese momento empezará a contabilizar también el tiempo. A con cronómetro con desempate: Todos los jinetes que logren terminar sin cometer faltas el recorrido, pasarán a disputar el desempate. Un segundo recorrido donde puntos y tiempo serán decisivos para saber quién será el ganador. MAEZA

Verde Cantábrico, por supuesto, a cuyas orillas se distribuyen numerosas playas como las de la Griega o Rodiles; Verde Valles y Montañas (¡las panorámicas de las Sierras del Sueve y Peñamayor!) que ofrecen la posibilidad de tonificar los músculos paseando por sus profundos bosques y agrestes riscos; Verde de Espacios Protegidos, como la ría de Villaviciosa. Muchas rutas y senderos recorren estas tierras sidreras, incluyendo el Camino de Santiago que las cruza de Este a Oeste. Pateando descubres una historia milenaria, con joyas románicas o prerrománicas como Santa María de Narzana, o el Conventín de Valdedios, pero también cercana, como el Museo de la Escuela Rural, o el de las Radios. Después del paseo, la comida y el descanso, te espera nuestra cuidada red de hoteles, alojamientos rurales y, por supuesto, restaurantes y sidrerías, con su estilo propio, en el que la calidad es el primer mandamiento. Esto y mucho más es aquello que te puede ofrece la Comarca de la Sidra, donde Asturias huele a manzana.

Un paraíso ecuestre en Sariego

El proyecto que se inició en 2009 con la adquisición de la primera yegua de cría, Cassira Olid, es hoy una realidad con 58 caballos en una finca de 30 hectáreas situada en el concejo de Sariego. El primer trimestre de 2018 marcó el inicio de una nueva época para la Yeguada Finca Maeza, cuando por fin pudo ocupar sus instalaciones sareganas.

odo empezó con la pasión de una niña por los caballos, que arrastró a toda la familia a este fascinante mundo. Después de residir varios años en Europa Central, al trasladarse a Asturias en un momento de fuerte crisis económica, la situación de las pistas y clubes era precaria, por lo que buscando alternativas se plantearon construir unas cuadras y una pequeña pista. La tramitación del proyecto se fue dilatando en el tiempo lo que conllevó modificaciones y ampliaciones pero faltaba ocupar inicialmente 15 hectáreas. Maeza se dedica a la cría y puesta en competición de caballos de salto, que se inscriben en el libro genealógico CDE (caballo de deporte español) y es socia de ANCADES (Asociación de Criadores de Caballos de Deporte Español). El comienzo de su actividad como criadores se define con el nacimiento del primer “Maeza”, hace ahora once años. Hoy, Altauer de Maeza es un caballo experimentado en pruebas de 1.40-1.45 metros. Después de Altauer se han sucedido los nacimientos, hasta llegar a un nutrido grupo de equinos. El primero que tuvo lugar en Sariego fue el de Issara de Maeza, hermana por parte de madre

de Altauer. Es una preciosa potra castaña que hoy tiene 3 años. 2021 ha traído ocho nacimientos: cinco potros y tres potras, todos CDE. La actividad principal de Maeza es la cría, para lo que se cuenta con unas excelentes yeguas madres y se cuida al máximo la elección del semental más adecuado a cada una de ellas, buscando la mejor producción. La zona de cría cuenta con 6 parideras de 36 m2 cada una. La instalación tiene dos pistas de geotextil con riego de flujo y reflujo, una exterior y una cubierta, cuadras con secador de infrarrojos, un caminador, aulas de formación y un área de rehabilitación y fisioterapia, con equipos específicos para este fin, que convierte a Maeza en una instalación vanguardista. Un gran equipo humano se dedica al bienestar de los caballos y al perfecto funcionamiento de la yeguada. La formación es un aspecto primordial para Maeza. Ya han organizado cursos de formación, clínics, seminarios y congresos. En cuanto la situación sanitaria lo permita se retomará esta actividad.

An equestrian paradise in Sariego The project that began in 2009 with the acquisition of the first broodmare, Cassira Olid, is now a reality with 58 horses on a 30-hectare farm located in the municipality of Sariego. succession of births, until a large group of horses was born. The first one that took place in Sariego was Issara de Maeza, Altauer’s sister on her mother’s side. She is a beautiful chestnut filly who is now 3 years old. 2021 has brought eight births: five colts and three fillies, all CDE.

Maeza’s main activity is breeding, for which we have excellent mares and we take the utmost care in choosing the most suitable stallion for each one of them, looking for the best production. The breeding area has 6 foaling stalls of 36m 2 each. The facility has two geotextile tracks with ebb and flow irrigation, one outdoor and one indoor, stables with infrared dryer, a walker, training classrooms and a rehabilitation and physiotherapy area, with specific equipment for this purpose, which makes Maeza an avantgarde facility. A great team is dedicated to the welfare of the horses and the perfect operation of the stud. Training is an important aspect for Maeza. They have already organized training courses, clinics, seminars and congresses. As soon as the health situation allows it, these activities will be resumed.

FIDEL DÁVILA, PRIMER JINETE DE LA YEGUADA FINCA MAEZA DESDE HACE 10 AÑOS, LLEVA INVOLUCRADO EN EL MUNDO DEL CABALLO DESDE BIEN PEQUEÑO. SU FAMILIA DE ORIGEN BURGALÉS SIEMPRE HA TENIDO GRAN TRADICIÓN ECUESTRE Y FIDEL NO TARDÓ EN DARSE CUENTA QUE DE SU GRAN PASIÓN HARÍA SU PROFESIÓN. ¿Cómo surgió la relación entre Yeguada Finca Maeza y Fidel Dávila? La relación surgió porque tenían un caballo que les daba algún problemilla y les recomendaron que se lo montase yo. Cruz me llamó y por una serie de acontecimientos que son parte de la historia entre Maeza y yo, decidí no montarlo explicando a Cruz mis motivos. Yo creo que ese día me entendió perfectamente y me dijo que le había parecido muy honrado. Me explicó que criaba caballos y que cuando estos empezasen a nacer le gustaría que yo los montara. En aquel momento yo ni siquiera sabía quienes eran Thomas y Cruz, pero al poco tiempo empecé con ellos, con sus primeros caballos criados en la yeguada y así hasta el día de hoy que tenemos una gran relación de amistad, más allá de la laboral. Actualmente los resultados hablan por si solos. La temporada va viento en popa pero imagino que es fruto de mucho trabajo ¿Cómo se prepara el binomio en la yeguada Maeza en la que hay tanto caballo que montar?

Los resultados están siendo muy buenos. Es muy fácil trabajar en Maeza porque tenemos todo lo que necesitamos a la hora de formar los caballos. Thomas y Cruz siempre me apoyan en todo, se preocupan de que todo esté bien para los caballos y el resultado es fruto de ello. Además tenemos un equipo magnífico de mozos, jinetes que trabajan los caballos más jóvenes, fisios, maquinarias como el treadmill o el aquatrainer… En el día a día entreno mucho los caballos. Me gusta que coman fuerte y estén bien en forma y, por supuesto, que estén felices porque sino es imposible. Altauer de Maeza es el primer caballo criado en la yeguada que logra importantes resultados en la categoría Gran Premio ¿Qué se siente cuando llegan los triunfos con un caballo nacido en Maeza? Altauer no solo es el primer caballo que salta Grandes Premios de la yeguada, sino que es el primer caballo criado en la yeguada. Los anteriores que había eran comprados. Altauer, los jefes y yo tenemos mucha historia en la yeguada, de hecho,

creo que es un caballo que les costaría llegar a vender porque es el inicio de todo. Para nosotros todo lo que gana es “especial”. De pequeño era muy torpe, recuerdo que nos reíamos de él porque hacía los recorridos relinchando de una forma muy peculiar y derribaba muchos saltos, pero los jefes y yo íbamos de concurso con él y disfrutábamos igual... Hoy en día, es raro el concurso en el que no gana algo. Ha sido un caballo en el que hemos puesto mucho trabajo y constancia hasta llegar a ser lo que es y creo que eso nos llena a todos en la yeguada. ¿Qué caballos veremos competir estos días en el CSI Maeza? ¿Te ves con expectativas? En los CSI de Maeza voy a saltar con Dantic en las pruebas grandes, que es un 8 años criado por nosotros y que cada día me encanta más. Está teniendo una gran evolución y creo que en poco tiempo va a ser el primer caballo de la yeguada. Después saltaré a Altauer, como no, que voy a mantenerlo en las medianas y quizás si veo que está animado le haga alguna prueba de ranking. Por último saltaré a Perigueux’s Boy, un caballo de 7 años todavía verde pero que creo que va a ser un súper caballo. En cuando a las expectativas, estoy seguro de que Altauer no me va a fallar y se hará ver en

alguna prueba. Dantic, a pesar de ser joven ya ha demostrado varías veces que sabe ganar. Si tuvieses que apostar por un caballo de la cuadra como futura promesa sería… Todos los caballos que tengo en este momento tienen muy buenas cualidades. Legacy, un semental de 7 años que no voy a saltar creo que puede ser un caballo muy importante, con muchos medios y facilidad. Perigueux’s Boy estoy seguro de que donde llegue nunca pasará desapercibido, es todo talento. Y en estos momentos Dantic es el caballo que más ilusionado me tiene. En su juventud varías personas estuvieron pensando comprarlo pero no acabaron de hacerlo ¡Ahora se tiran de los pelos al ver en lo que se ha convertido! ¿Cuáles son los objetivos de Fidel Dávila en el corto y largo plazo? A corto plazo mis objetivos son todos los internacionales de verano del norte porque en ellos puedo ir poniendo un poco en altura mis caballos de 8 años. A largo plazo sigo cada día todos los potros de la yeguada, observo su talento y evolución y ojalá la yeguada siga en esa línea porque cada año criamos caballos mucho mejores con los que espero poder crear una buena cuadra internacional.

FIDEL DÁVILA, FINCA MAEZA’S FIRST RIDER FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS, HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN THE HORSE WORLD SINCE HE WAS A CHILD. HIS FAMILY OF BURGOS ORIGIN HAS ALWAYS HAD A GREAT EQUESTRIAN TRADITION AND FIDEL SOON REALIZED THAT HIS GREAT PASSION WOULD BECOME HIS PROFESSION. How did the relationship between Yeguada Finca Maeza and Fidel Dávila come about? The relationship arose because they had a horse that was giving them some problems and they recommended them that I ride him. It is very easy to work at Maeza because we have everything we need to train the horses. Thomas and Cruz always support me in everything, they make sure that everything is right for the horses and the results are the fruit of that. We also have a magnificent team of grooms, riders who work with the younger horses, physiotherapists, machinery such as the treadmill or the aquatrainer... On a daily basis I train the horses a lot. I like them to eat well and be in good shape and, of course, to be happy, otherwise it is impossible. Altauer de Maeza is the first horse bred at the stud to achieve important results in the Grand Prix category. How does it feel when a horse born in Maeza wins? Altauer is not only the first horse to jump Grand Prix at the stud, but also the first horse bred at the stud. The previous ones were bought. Altauer, the bosses and I have a lot of history at the stud, in fact, I think he is a horse that they would have a hard time selling because he is the beginning of everything. For us, everything he wins is “special”. When he was a little foal he was very clumsy, I remember we used to laugh at him because he whinnying the courses in a very peculiar way and knocked down a lot of poles, but the

bosses and I would go to competitions with him and we enjoyed it all the same. Nowadays, it is rare the competition in which he does not win something. He has been a horse in which we have put a lot of work and perseverance until he has become what he is and I think that fills us all at the stud. What horses will we see competing these days at the CSI Maeza? Do you have expectations? In the CSI of Maeza I will jump with Dantic in the big courses, who is an 8 year old horse bred by us and that I love more and more every day. He is having a great evolution and I think that in a short time he will be the first horse of the stud. Then I will jump Altauer, of course, I will keep him in the medium size and maybe if I see that he is highspirited I will do some ranking competition with him. Finally I will jump Perigueux’s Boy, a 7 year old horse still green but I think he is going to be a super horse. As for expectations, I am sure that Altauer will not let me down and will make an appearance in one of the competitions. Dantic, despite being young, has already proven several times that he knows how to win. If you had to bet on one of the horses in the stable as a future promise, it would be... All the horses I have at the moment have very good qualities. Legacy, a 7 year old stallion that I am not going to jump I think he can be a very important horse, with a lot of means and ease. Perigueux’s Boy I am sure that wherever he goes he will never go unnoticed, he is all talent. And right now Dantic is the horse I am most excited about. In his youth, several people were thinking of buying him, but they didn’t end up doing it. Now they are pulling their hair out when they see what he has become! What are Fidel Dávila’s short and long term goals? In the short term my goals are all the summer internationals in the north because I can put my 8 year old horses on a bit of a level. In the long term I follow every day all the foals of the stud, I observe their talent and evolution and hopefully the stud will continue in this line because every year we breed much better horses with which I hope to be able to create a good international stable.

¿A que edad comenzó a interesarse por la pintura? ¿Tuviste alguna influencia familiar que te acercara al mundo de las artes? La pintura siempre estuvo presente en casa, siempre hubo aprecio y admiración por las artes. Remontándonos, un tío de mi abuelo tiene obra en el Museo del Prado. De padre escultor y madre aunque más literaria, también siempre pintó. Yo no tuve vocación temprana aunque me figuro fue inevitable que haga años que me dedique a ello de forma plena. ¿En que lugares ha expuesto su obra? Desde mis comienzos la verdad que no dejé de exponer, colectiva e individualmente. En salas, privadas y publicas, museos y Ferias. En Asturias y fuera de aquí. Ahora mismo puede verse en Úbeda con los seleccionados y premiados en el Premio Caja Rural de Jaén. También, esta vez en Asturias, por diversas Salas Culturales con los premiados y seleccionados en el Certamen de Luarca en el que soy Finalista. Y por último en el Valley de Piedras Blancas, en una exposición del Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias, que muestran las últimas adquisiciones, entre las que estoy. ¿En qué y/o quién se inspira a la hora de crear? Sin duda me inspiro en lo que soy y como estoy, me inspiro en lo que veo, en lo que siento ,en lo que sueño, en lo que anhelo, en lo que no es, en mitos, en emociones, pinto como respiro y la pintura sabe más de mi, que yo misma. Los caballos forman parte muy significativa de ese universo ,me crié entre ellos, de mi abuelo heredé su unión con ellos. Él que concursaba siendo civil cuando casi todos los que corrían eran militares. Rodeada de quienes mirando a las nubes siempre ven caballos. Soy sobrina de jinetes profesionales y aficionada amazona. ¿Como definiría su obra? Puedo contestarle a lo que aspiro y es a pintar siempre libre. Hay veces que parecen obras inacabadas y esas omisiones son intencionadas. Las más de las veces no diciendo decimos y esos silencios son igual de importantes. ¿Cuantos cuadros estarán expuestos durante el evento? Vendrán a ser unos doce, de distintos formatos. Será un recorrido con obras donde los caballos estarán representados, y la mirada del espectador completará. ¿Cómo es su relación con la Yeguada Finca Maeza y en especial con la familia Bares? Nuestro primer acercamiento fue debido al interés de Cruz, su directora, por mi pintura que apoyó desde que me conoció. Nos une un sincero y cariñoso aprecio mutuo. Esta idea fue de ella y completamente espontánea, y a mi me pareció fantástica. Invitarme a exponer allí durante el CSI mi obra en un salón, trasciende su amor por los caballos. En verdad es lo que compartimos ella y yo, además del amor a las artes, y lo que sin duda compartiremos todos estos días, en la Yeguada Finca Maeza que ella dirige. At what age did you become interested in painting? Did you have any family influence that brought you closer to the world of the arts? Painting was always present at my home, there was always an appreciation and admiration for the arts. Going back, one of my grandfather’s uncle has artwork in the Prado Museum. My father was a sculptor and my mother, although more literary, also always painted. I did not have an early vocation, although I guess it was inevitable that I have been fully dedicated to it for years.

“A un sótano” óleo sobre lienco 100x81 2020 Where have you exhibited your work? The truth is that from the beginning I have never stopped exhibiting, collectively and individually. In private and public galleries, museums and fairs, in Asturias and abroad. Right now it can be seen in Úbeda with those selected and awarded in the Caja Rural de Jaén Prize. Also, this time in Asturias, by various Cultural Halls with the winners and selected in the Contest of Luarca in which I am a Finalist. And finally in the Valley of Piedras Blancas, in an exhibition of the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias, showing the latest acquisitions, among which I am. What and/or who do you draw inspiration from when you create? Without a doubt I am inspired by what I am and how I am, I am inspired by what I see, by what I feel, what I dream, what I wish for, by what is not, by myths, emotions, I paint as I breathe and painting knows more about me than I know about myself. Horses are a very significant part of this universe, I grew up among them, from my grandfather I inherited his bond with them. He who competed as a civilian when almost all those who raced were military. Surrounded by those who always look at the clouds and see horses, I am the niece of professional riders and an amateur horsewoman. How would you define your work? I can answer what I aspire to and that is to paint always free. Sometimes they look like unfinished works and these omissions are intentional. Most of the time we don’t say it and those silences are just as important. How many paintings will be exhibited during the event? There will be about twelve of different formats. It will be a journey with works where the horses will be represented, and the viewer’s gaze will complete. How is your relationship with Yeguada Finca Maeza and especially with the Bares family? Our first approach was due to the interest of Cruz, its director, for my painting that she supported since she met me. We are united by a sincere and affectionate mutual appreciation. This idea was hers and completely spontaneous, and I thought it was fantastic. Inviting me to exhibit my work in a salon there during the CSI transcends her love for horses. In truth, this is what she and I share, besides the love for the arts, and what we will undoubtedly share all these days, at the Finca Maeza Stud that she directs. 2021

El jinete chileno de 40 años, ha participado en los Juegos Ecuestre Mundiales en Caen y, en las próximas semanas, tiene previsto viajar a Tokio para participar en los Juegos Olímpicos. Con 23 años y durante 7, decidió dejar de lado la hípica para dedicarse profesionalmente a la empresa familiar. Ahora Jorge está en uno de sus mejores momentos deportivos y se ha trasladado a Europa con la intención de preparar sus caballos de cara a la cita olímpica.

Este jinete holandés de 27 viene de una familia con gran tradición ecuestre y de renombre en la alta competición internacional. Su padre Eric y su hermano Maikel acumulan un palmarés de vértigo con medallas de oro en Copas de Naciones y numerosas participaciones en Copas del mundo, Juegos Ecuestres Mundiales y Juegos Olímpicos. Eric, muy habitual en las competiciones internacionales de Centro Europa viene a Maeza con la intención de preparar a sus caballos y llevarse unos cuantos trofeos.

The 40-year-old Chilean rider has participated in the World Equestrian Games in Caen and, in the coming weeks, plans to travel to Tokyo to participate in the Olympic Games. At the age of 23 and for 7 years, he decided to leave riding aside to dedicate himself professionally to the family business. Now Jorge is in one of his best sporting moments and has moved to Europe with the intention of preparing his horses for the Olympic Games.

This 27-year-old Dutch rider comes from a family with a great equestrian tradition and renown in high international competition. His father Eric and his brother Maikel accumulate a record of vertigo with gold medals in Nations Cups and numerous participations in World Cups, World Equestrian Games and Olympic Games. Eric, a regular rider at international competitions in Central Europe, comes to Maeza with the intention of preparing his horse and winning a few trophies.

Cuando piensas en Brasil piensas en el equipo ganador de los últimos Juegos Pan Americanos de 2019 y entre los integrantes del equipo está el jinete Pedro Veniss que estos días estará compitiendo en el CSI Maeza. Dos veces este brasileño ha logrado el oro por equipos en los Pan Americanos, pero además, ha participado con muy buenos resultados en dos Juegos Olímpicos, tres Juegos Ecuestres Mundiales y una final de Copa de Naciones. Su próximo reto, ganar en Maeza y poner rumbo a Tokio para representar de nuevo a su país.

Este jinete de 31 años tiene un objetivo claro en esta temporada 2021: hacer el mejor papel posible en el Campeonato de Europa previsto para finales de agosto. Con el propósito de poner a punto a sus caballos este luxemburgués acude a Maeza con tres de sus caballos. Habitual en los podios de competiciones internacionales de 2* será todo un reclamo en estos días de competición en la comarca de la sidra.

When you think of Brazil you think of the winning team of the last Pan American Games in 2019 and among the members of the team is the rider Pedro Veniss who these days will be competing at the CSI Maeza. Twice this Brazilian has won team gold at the Pan American Games, but in addition, he has participated with very good results in two Olympic Games, three World Equestrian Games and a Nations Cup Final.
