Letter From the Lifestyle Team Summer Relaxation is Here!
July and August are heating up with fun, friendship, and fresh experiences! These summer months are packed with chances to connect with neighbors, try something new, and make the most of the sunshine.
We’ll be getting creative with craft projects, enjoying good company at our Member Mingler, and soaking up the season with patriotic celebrations and summertime socials. Get ready for Water Waggin’ Fun for our furry friends, a refreshing Ice Cream Social, and sizzling nights like Hibachi at Lake Club.
Whether you’re unwinding by the pool, meeting new people, or just enjoying a casual chat over something ice cold, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Come celebrate summer with us!
One of the best things about Esplanade Lake Club is that there are so many Members with different interests and hobbies. If you have a particular interest that you would like
to share with your friends and neighbors, we have multiple opportunities to become a club leader.
All you have to do is share your interest with your Lifestyle team and we will assist with getting your club started by getting you the interest group and club information packet, assisting with choosing dates and times that work best for your group, and by helping promote it to all of the Members of the community. The variety of clubs are endless; let’s build a great social program together!
As you review the upcoming activities and events on the interactive calendar, please remember to register for any events and activities you would like to attend. This helps tremendously in making sure all activities are executed flawlessly and all who sign up to attend are accommodated.
Amanda Worland
BAHAMA BAR WAITSTAFF
Hi Lake Club, I’m Amanda — I’ve been working at the Bahama Bar for about seven months now, and I absolutely love it! It’s such a great feeling to see familiar faces every day and build awesome relationships with both our Members and my coworkers. When I’m not at the bar, you can usually find me hanging out at the beach, spending time with friends, or playing beach volleyball! I just recently graduated high school and am now continuing my education at FGCU, with hopes of becoming a dentist one day. I can’t wait to see you around Lake Club!

Bill & Donna Daubman
The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people that call our community home. If you would like to be featured or want to nominate another Member, please contact your Lifestyle Manager.

Bill was born in Springfield, MA and Donna was born in Chicopee, MA. They met in high school while working at a local department store. They will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in October of 2025 and together they have two sons and four grandchildren, all in Southwest Florida. All four Daubmanns are “hands on” in their businesses. They own nine MY Shower Door retail locations plus D3 Glass, a glass manufacturing and fabrication business. In 2016, they opened MY Architectural Glass, a division of MY Shower Door. All total, the company currently employs more than 192 associates from South Naples through and including Orlando and Boca Raton (opened in November 2020). In 2024 MY Shower Door opened in Charlotte, NC.
Bill has played sports his whole life and took a liking to ice hockey and golf. He was a professional on-ice referee for the American Hockey league for 10 seasons. Donna is also a golfer along with a great cook and gardener. When she is not designing showrooms for MY Shower Door, she researches nutritional health issues and concentrates on good whole foods.
Both Donna and Bill are extremely active in the community spreading their time politically (local and national as they were delegates at the RNC convention in 2024) as well as supporting local sports teams with sponsorships. Those teams are the Florida Everblades, Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins. Bill was selected to throw out the “First Pitch” at Fenway Park on June 2 this year when the Red Sox played the Los Angeles Angels. They are also supporters of the Golisano Children’s Hospital and various other local charities.

Tips for Exercising Outdoors

Exercising in hot weather puts extra stress on your body. Both the air temperature and humidity can increase your core body temperature during exercise. To help cool itself, your body sends more blood to circulate through your skin. This leaves less blood for your muscles, which in turn increases your heart rate.
If the humidity is high, your body faces added stress because sweat doesn’t easily evaporate from your skin. Once you stop perspiring in hot, humid conditions, you are at greater risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke.
AVOID THE HOTTEST PART OF THE DAY
To avoid intense heat, exercise early in the morning or late in the day. The hottest temperatures occur between 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Watch the weather forecast and take extra caution when it’s hot and humid. Humidity can work against your body’s ability to cool the skin since sweat can’t properly evaporate.
DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS
The key to exercising safely in the heat is hydration before and throughout your workout. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink fluids. Help your body sweat and cool down by drinking water frequently. Research recommends consuming 16 to 24 ounces of water a couple hours before exercising. Do not drink extremely cold water as it may cause stomach cramps. Lastly, do not drink alcohol, caffeine, or drinks with a lot of sugar, such as soda. These types of beverages can cause you to lose fluids. When temperatures are above 80°F and humidity is 80-100% you should drink 8 ounces of water every 20 minutes during vigorous exercise outdoors.
REPLENISH YOUR ELECTROLYTES
If you plan to exercise for a couple of hours, you may want to choose a sports drink to replenish electrolytes. These drinks aim to replace salts and minerals as well as fluids. Choose lower-calorie options that
contain less sugar. There are also electrolyte tablets available to add to your water that don’t include high sugar.
WEAR LIGHT, BREATHABLE CLOTHING
When getting dressed before a workout, make sure to wear lightweight, well-ventilated clothing. Synthetic fabrics like polyester, nylon, and Lycra easily absorb sweat and allow for evaporation. If you are exercising directly in the sun, light colors such as white reflect heat better than other colors. The most important body part to keep cool is the head. Wear a hat and if you are feeling extremely tired, soak it in cold water. Wearing a hat won’t necessarily reduce your core temperature, but it could improve your comfort level.
KNOW YOUR LIMITS
Be aware of your fitness limitations and respect them. If you’re not in good physical condition and not conditioned for activity in hot weather, you’re more vulnerable than a well-conditioned athlete who regularly trains in the heat. Listen to your body and if you begin to feel dizzy, nauseous, or tired, give yourself a break in a cooler location. Allow your body time to rest and refuel between workouts to prevent jeopardizing your fitness and workout goals.
CREATE A TRAINING PLAN
Plan for a short workout. Walk for a shorter period in the morning and then another one at the end of the day. If you’re doing an interval workout of walking bursts followed by recovery periods, extend your rest breaks longer than normal. Gradually increase the length and intensity of your workouts as you exercise outdoors more often.
REGULARLY USE SUNSCREEN
Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Make sure to reapply at least every two hours or after sweating. Sunburn decreases your body’s ability to cool itself and increases the risk of skin cancer.

National Wildlife Federation teams up with LG Electronics (LG) for an ongoing campaign to highlight vulnerable and endangered species, such as the West Indian Manatee (including its two subspecies the Florida and Antillean Manatees). Currently, the biggest threats to manatees are boat collisions and loss of their primary habitat—warm water coastal ecosystems that provide seagrass beds. Additionally, entanglement in fishing gear and toxic algal blooms are also impacting manatee populations. Test your knowledge and learn fun facts about the beloved “Mermaid of the Sea.” To learn more, visit blog.nwf. org/2025/04/manatees-the-mermaids-of-the-sea
