SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT PROGRAM UPDATE

During the 2022-23 school year the Supply Chain Management Program saw an increase in enrollment and took steps to further grow the program by forming a new Corporate Advisory Board, re-branding and restructuring its Student Professional Organization, and growing its Internship Program.

Corporate Engagement

A new SCM Corporate Advisory Board was formed with over 10 leaders representing some of the region’s largest employers, the State of Louisiana, and Tangipahoa Parish Schools The new Board is led by Bryan Boudreaux, Retired SVP of Walmart, and has two subcommittees including Curriculum and Fundraising, led by Dr. Rachelle Cope and Mr Jon Emas

Key Accomplishments:

Board Member Donations of over $15,000 with more to follow.

A Curriculum Survey was completed with Board Members and identification of key topics to cover in SCM coursework including Data Analytics and enhanced Business Communication

Approval to launch a $1,000 SCM Scholarship Program to boost enrollment Twelve (12) scholarships are planned for the 2023-24 school year: Eight (8) for enrolled Freshman that declare SCM as their Major, and Four (4) for high-performing Juniors

Student Engagement

The SCM Student Professional Organization was restructured and re-branded with a new Board of Directors, Marketing Program, and Organization Name In addition, a new Organizational Charter, new meeting agenda, and set of Board Member Job Descriptions were created to ensure consistency from one semester to the next.

Student Success

SCM Faculty played a key role in helping students connect with employers in 2022-23. Employers were invited to participate in SLU and COB career events including the Fall SLU Career Fair, Spring “Biz Connect” and annual COB Supply Chain Week. Faculty worked with employers to recruit SCM students and actively promoted internships with students both in-class and online

Key Accomplishments:

Student membership and attendance at Monthly Meetings doubled.

Organization re-named and rebranded from “Institute for Supply Management” to “The Supply Chain Club” to simplify the organization’s brand and expand scope to include all Supply Chain Industry and Professional Organizations that students may join after graduation

Spring fundraising event raised funds to help produce new TShirts for members to purchase.

Key Accomplishments:

Thirteen (13) Summer Internships at the following companies: Amedisys Home Healthcare (1), Entergy (1), Fastenal (1), Fluker Transportation (1), G I S Engineering (1), International Paper (3), J.B. Hunt (1), MartinBrower (1), Methanex (1), Primoris Service Corp (1), and Rain Carbon (1)

Number of internship opportunities exceeded number of qualified and available students.

Over 100 employers, students, and SCM Alumni added to the SLU-SCM LinkedIn Group Page
