selected for its 8th annual Weston Foreign Film Series. This year’s lineup spans the globe with genres ranging from romantic comedies to action adventure thrillers. “This year, for the first time, our committee has vetted every film. All of the movies were recommended by foreign film expert Shelly Isaacs, who is the host, programmer and commentator for Café Cinematheque International,” states Norma Sonnenklar, chair of the Weston Foreign Film Series. “We expect the selections for this season to entice, amuse, astound, thrill and entertain.” Weston 8 Cinema plays host to the Weston Foreign Film Series. Movies are shown on the second Monday of the month, November through March. The early show starts at 5:00pm, while the late show begins at 7:15pm. All foreign language films have English subtitles.

The 2013-2014 season starts on November 11th with My Afternoons with Margueritte. In this French film, 220 pounds and 40 years separate the unhappy Germain, who is illiterate, and the gentle Margueritte, who is passionate about reading. When the two meet by chance in a public garden, doors he never knew existed open for Germain and his life changes almost magically.

The Argentinian movie Chinese Take-Away (Un Cuento Chino) will be shown on December 9th. The lives of a stranded, frightened young Chinese immigrant, Jun, and a solitary, hermit-like Spanish shopkeeper, Roberto, are forever changed when they meet in Buenos Aires. The dependence of the lost man on the reclusive loner and the loneliness of the immigrant longing for a family make this an engrossing film.
