The Broomfield 100
Gets Trail Enthusiasts Outdoors By Bette Erickson
Back in 2015, Broomfield City and County planners came up with the brilliant Broomfield 100 challenge. The goal of the three-month Broomfield 100 event was to encourage outdoor exercise, expose participants to the city’s expansive and well-planned trails system, and generally get residents enthused about healthy activity.
Outside. Trails. Goals. And much needed endorphin boosts. Bring it on, right?

This year, like last year, the Broomfield 100 and its trails “passport” is virtual. With the kick-off of the Broomfield 100 coinciding with National Trails Day (the first Saturday in June), interested residents were encouraged to access the passport online and hike or bike the variety of routes offered – generally summing to 100 miles. Hence the name, Broomfield 100. There is still time to join the fun. The online access allows participants to contribute to a community guest book, photo scavenger hunt, and more. The summer-long outdoor community challenge is enjoyed by hundreds of residents each year, culminating on Broomfield Days, Saturday, September 18. What’s not virtual is that prizes for those who’ve completed the challenge will be given out at Broomfield Days at the City and County tent on the south side of Midway Park. Not surprising in the least, the City and County of Broomfield has been ranked once again as one of the top counties in the 2021 Healthiest Communities rankings from U.S. News & World Report and the Aetna Foundation.
