Great insurance starts with a great agent

A MESSAGE TO YOU

I want to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the 2025-26 Oshawa Generals OHL season. As always not only a welcome to the legions of returning fans, but for all of the new fans as well. Welcome to Gens Nation!!!

The large number of players that you will be seeing on the ice this season will be coming off back to back OHL championship finals appearances. A great accomplishment but we all know we fell short of our ultimate goal of winning the Robertson trophy and going to the Memorial Cup. The real success of this years team is to return to that level. Three years ago we finished in eighth place followed by a first place and fourth place regular season finishes respectively. The first-place finish and back-to-back finals appearances were the result of the building blocks being put in place seasons before and the team growing up together. Winning doesn’t happen by accident, and it must be done by doing things the right way.

The men in charge of that will be led by Mario Pouliot and his winning pedigree in junior hockey. Mario will push these players to places they may not have been before but trusting a coach that has won two Memorial Cups the reboot should move quickly. Mike Farrugia will be in his third season behind the bench, and they will be joined by newcomer Derrick Walser who most recently coached in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels. Derrick was part of the Peterborough Pete’s coaching staff that won the OHL championship and competed in the Memorial Cup in 2023.

The hockey landscape as we know it, is changing and the people to benefit the most will be you the fans and the players. Fans will get to see young players live that they may never have been able to see before. Players with NCAA commits that may have played in other leagues to preserve their eligibility are free to explore the OHL now before going to school. Players will have the opportunity to extend their playing careers and get the best of both worlds. I suspect by the end of this upcoming season we may have half of our players with NCAA commits. However, make no mistake the OHL/CHL will remain the industry leader in producing NHL draft picks. Look no further then our own Simon Wang and Owen Griffin who had their names called for the San Jose Sharks and the Columbus Blue Jackets respectively this past June in LA.

Now you must play your part and fill this building every night. Give these guys true home ice advantage and push them to be there best night in and night out. Go Gens Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As we prepare to embark on our 88th year, we’re energized by what the future holds. While much has changed over the years, our expectations remain the same: to ice a competitive team with our sights set on returning to the finals. This year’s roster will feature an exciting blend of new talent and veteran leadership—a dynamic mix of size, skill, and relentless compete.

We can’t wait to welcome our loyal fans back to the rink and feel your support in the stands.

Starting in the new year, fans will begin to see major renovations take shape at the arena—a place the Generals have proudly called home for decades, and will continue to for years to come. These enhancements will honor our deep-rooted history while ushering in a new era of excellence, elevating the game-day experience for players and fans alike. From improved facilities to refreshed fan spaces, the upgrades will reflect the pride and spirit of the Oshawa community. This investment not only reinforces our commitment to the organization but celebrates the city we represent—with full completion slated for late 2027.

AROUND THE OHL

AS OF DECEMBER 8TH

PETERBOROUGH PETES

Losing four of their last six, the Petes have struggled defensively as of late, now allowing the second-most goals in the Eastern Conference. Easton Rye might be having a great season between the pipes, which includes being tied for the second-most wins in the league with 15, but he has not gotten a lot of defensive help in front of him in this stretch.

The good news for Peterborough is their offense continues to click, led by a red-hot Adam Novotný, who has nine points in his last five and is not only up to 35 points to lead the team but is also second in the entire league with 19 goals. Over-ager Matthew Soto has also been on a role with eight points in his last five.

Even after trading Colin Fitzgerald to the SOO Greyhounds for six draft picks recently, the Petes still have plenty of forward depth with ten of their twelve regular forwards up to 13 or more points whilst getting 24 points between Carson Cameron and James Petrovski on the blue line.

Things might be up-and-down in Peterborough right now, but the team still owns a top-four spot in the Eastern Conference 30 games into the season thanks to their youth continuing to emerge.

CENTRAL DIVISION

SUDBURY WOLVES

The scoring touch has been coming back a little bit for Sudbury, leading to five wins in nine games, but that has mostly been because of the efforts of their two best players: Kieron Walton and Nathan Villeneuve, who each have 16 points in their last ten to lead the team in scoring.

Newcomer Artem Gonchar – the nephew of Sergei Gonchar – has also gained confidence with 12 points in his last ten. Other than these three picking up the pace, there is not a whole lot of scoring support from the bottom-six.

Sudbury’s defense has not helped much either as they continue to be dead last in the league for goals against. They have used four different goalies this year, including Finn Marshall who recently went to the BCHL, but will stick to Owen Leonard and Karsen Chartier as a tandem.

The Wolves – like Oshawa – are a fairly young team that miss some defensive assignments and do not get a lot of saves from their goaltending. They have at least been playing with more confidence as of late, but growing pains like these are sure to emerge.

MIDWEST DIVISION

GUELPH STORM

Their defensive situation still might not be pretty, but Guelph’s offense has become very interesting as they have jumped up to the sixth best goal-scoring team. This has been without Jett Luchanko, who was traded to Brantford eleven games after returning from the NHL.

Instead, it has been the veterans Ethan Miedema and Charlie Paquette being two of many contributors to the Storm’s offensive attack, combining for 23 points in each of their last ten. Leo Serlin, Alex McLean and Will McFadden have also gotten streaks going to reach the 20 point-mark.

Guelph has turned into a deep team over the last month or so, with eleven of their fifteen forwards up to fifteen or more points. They will hope for more consistency on the other side of the puck to help gain more traction, but it appears Zachary Jovanovski has won the starter’s job for the time being after putting up a .917 SV% in his last four starts.

While the Storm hope their retool will remain positive like things have been lately, the organization had the honor of being named hosts of the 2027 Memorial Cup not too long ago, a massive jolt for their championship ambitions in the near future as they ensure an automatic bye into the tournament.

WEST DIVISION

SARNIA STING

Things seemed to be looking up for the Sting when Alessandro Di lorio returned from injury a month ago, but the offense has only seemed to dry up since the start of November – including Di lorio himself with only three points in ten games since his first appearance of the season.

On top of only scoring just 14 times in eight games, Sarnia’s defensive side has continued to regress – now bottom three in the league for goals against. They have not gotten timely saves for their goaltending, and they seem to struggle covering up in their own zone.

With the season nearing the halfway point, the Sting’s skid has brought them to the bottom of the Western Conference by a six-point margin. There might still be time to salvage something as their retool continues, but a lot of things will need to go right.

ONNI KALTO NAMED TO FINLAND WORLD

JUNIORS

TEAM

Generals’ forward Onni Kalto has been named to Team Finland’s U20 World Junior Championship team, the club announced today.

Kalto was Oshawa’s first round choice at the CHL Import Draft this past summer, selected 41st overall from the TPS Turku U20 team in Finland.

In 44 games last season with the U20 TPS Turku team, Kalto recorded 14 goals and eight assists for 22 points.

So far this year, Kalto has been off to a solid start at the OHL level with the Generals, tallying five goals and nine points in 30 games.

With his simple brand of hockey that includes driving to the net, Kalto should fit in nicely with Team Finland’s style of play.

The IIHF World Junior Championship gets underway from Minnesota with all teams beginning Round Robin play on Boxing Day. Finland begins their tournament against Denmark.

GAME DAY PREVIEW

The Oshawa Generals and Kingston Frontenacs meet for the fifth time this season – and second time in five days –when they hit the ice at the TCC tonight.

The Generals look to avoid a fifth straight loss to the Frontenacs on the year after dropping the first four matchups against them – three of those have been in Kingston.

Wednesday’s latest meeting between the two saw similar success for the Frontenacs that has contributed to their victories over Oshawa all season: depth scoring throughout the lineup from all four lines and defensive pairs.

The Gens will hope to shut down Kingston’s quickness, as well as their new-look top line of Jacob Battaglia, Tomas Pobezal and Andrew Kuzma that combined for nine points five days ago.

Both teams have played once since their last meeting. The Generals dropped 3-1 to the Ottawa 67’s at home Friday while the Frontenacs picked up a big 4-3 victory over the Windsor Spitfires on their home ice the same night.

While Oshawa did get some great looks Friday night, they could not make good of them with key saves from Ryder Fetterolf of the 67’s. They will be in for another challenge tonight with either Matthew Minchak or Gavin Betts waiting to start – both have two wins apiece against the Generals this season.

It was announced yesterday that Onni Kalto will join Finland’s U20 World Juniors team and the Gens will hope he continues to excel his game in their top six. Kalto’s style of play has transitioned well into Oshawa in his first season with his forechecking abilities and constant presence around the net anticipating a loose puck.

On the Frontenacs’ side, look out for Tomas Pobezal, who has seven points in the four games against the Generals this year. In his first season in the OHL after coming over from Slovakia, Pobezal has shown plenty of features in his game, from his quick skating to aggressive forechecking to his offensive presence around the net.

LAST GAME RECAP

DECEMBER 12TH, 2025

In their first game back on home ice in 12 days, the Oshawa Generals were defeated 3-1 in yet another low-scoring game against their division rivals, the Ottawa 67’s.

Matthew Humphries, who was acquired from the Niagara IceDogs in November, made his Generals debut tonight after starting his season with the Aurora Tigers of the OJHL, putting up a .907 SV% and a GAA of 3.76.

The Gens took to the ice in their Christmas-themed Ugly Sweaters tonight. The jerseys will be auctioned off in support of Durham Children’s Aid Foundation’s Holiday Hope program.

It would be Ottawa netting the first one early thanks to Thomas Vandenberg putting home a rebound shot from Nathan Amidovski in front of the net, but the Generals picked up the pace afterward and were solid throughout the first period – leading the shot totals 11-8 after one.

Oshawa started the second with an early power play but could not capitalize, leading to Filip Ekberg putting the 67’s up 2-0 off a wicked wrist shot over the glove of Humphries from the near circle.

Though the Generals continued to pile up some great scoring opportunities, they still could not solve Ryder Fetterolf between the Ottawa pipes as he stopped all 21 shots thrown his way through the first 40 minutes.

Ottawa started the third by adding another early one with Jasper Kuhta netting his 16th of the season glove side on Humphries on a three-on-one rush. The Gens would later respond on their third man-advantage of the night, but it would take a video review to make it official.

Anthony Timmerman rushed into the attacking zone and fired one that quickly went off the back bar behind Fetterolf on his glove side. Play continued for about 40 seconds, but the buzzer soon sounded to confirm Timmerman’s second of the season.

The goal did get the TCC crowd going, and Oshawa did feed off the momentum after netting their first goal on Fetterolf on the season, but it would not be enough to complete a rally as the 67’s shut it down the rest of the way.

Despite the loss, the Generals’ power play continues to trend in the right direction with goals in three straight games – converting four times on six attempts. Matthew Humphries also had a strong first impression for the Generals, stopping 24 of the 27 shots he faced.

Ryder Fetterolf was the difference tonight, further proving why he is one of the top goaltenders in the league in his rookie season by picking up his second win against Oshawa this year while stopping 43 of 44 shots combined in those two games.
