Great insurance starts with a great agent

A MESSAGE TO YOU

I want to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the 2025-26 Oshawa Generals OHL season. As always not only a welcome to the legions of returning fans, but for all of the new fans as well. Welcome to Gens Nation!!!

The large number of players that you will be seeing on the ice this season will be coming off back to back OHL championship finals appearances. A great accomplishment but we all know we fell short of our ultimate goal of winning the Robertson trophy and going to the Memorial Cup. The real success of this years team is to return to that level. Three years ago we finished in eighth place followed by a first place and fourth place regular season finishes respectively. The first-place finish and back-to-back finals appearances were the result of the building blocks being put in place seasons before and the team growing up together. Winning doesn’t happen by accident, and it must be done by doing things the right way.

The men in charge of that will be led by Mario Pouliot and his winning pedigree in junior hockey. Mario will push these players to places they may not have been before but trusting a coach that has won two Memorial Cups the reboot should move quickly. Mike Farrugia will be in his third season behind the bench, and they will be joined by newcomer Derrick Walser who most recently coached in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels. Derrick was part of the Peterborough Pete’s coaching staff that won the OHL championship and competed in the Memorial Cup in 2023.

The hockey landscape as we know it, is changing and the people to benefit the most will be you the fans and the players. Fans will get to see young players live that they may never have been able to see before. Players with NCAA commits that may have played in other leagues to preserve their eligibility are free to explore the OHL now before going to school. Players will have the opportunity to extend their playing careers and get the best of both worlds. I suspect by the end of this upcoming season we may have half of our players with NCAA commits. However, make no mistake the OHL/CHL will remain the industry leader in producing NHL draft picks. Look no further then our own Simon Wang and Owen Griffin who had their names called for the San Jose Sharks and the Columbus Blue Jackets respectively this past June in LA.

Now you must play your part and fill this building every night. Give these guys true home ice advantage and push them to be there best night in and night out. Go Gens Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As we prepare to embark on our 88th year, we’re energized by what the future holds. While much has changed over the years, our expectations remain the same: to ice a competitive team with our sights set on returning to the finals. This year’s roster will feature an exciting blend of new talent and veteran leadership—a dynamic mix of size, skill, and relentless compete.

We can’t wait to welcome our loyal fans back to the rink and feel your support in the stands.

Starting in the new year, fans will begin to see major renovations take shape at the arena—a place the Generals have proudly called home for decades, and will continue to for years to come. These enhancements will honor our deep-rooted history while ushering in a new era of excellence, elevating the game-day experience for players and fans alike. From improved facilities to refreshed fan spaces, the upgrades will reflect the pride and spirit of the Oshawa community. This investment not only reinforces our commitment to the organization but celebrates the city we represent—with full completion slated for late 2027.

AROUND THE OHL

AS OF DECEMBER 8TH

PETERBOROUGH PETES

Losing four of their last six, the Petes have struggled defensively as of late, now allowing the second-most goals in the Eastern Conference. Easton Rye might be having a great season between the pipes, which includes being tied for the second-most wins in the league with 15, but he has not gotten a lot of defensive help in front of him in this stretch.

The good news for Peterborough is their offense continues to click, led by a red-hot Adam Novotný, who has nine points in his last five and is not only up to 35 points to lead the team but is also second in the entire league with 19 goals. Over-ager Matthew Soto has also been on a role with eight points in his last five.

Even after trading Colin Fitzgerald to the SOO Greyhounds for six draft picks recently, the Petes still have plenty of forward depth with ten of their twelve regular forwards up to 13 or more points whilst getting 24 points between Carson Cameron and James Petrovski on the blue line.

Things might be up-and-down in Peterborough right now, but the team still owns a top-four spot in the Eastern Conference 30 games into the season thanks to their youth continuing to emerge.

CENTRAL DIVISION

SUDBURY WOLVES

The scoring touch has been coming back a little bit for Sudbury, leading to five wins in nine games, but that has mostly been because of the efforts of their two best players: Kieron Walton and Nathan Villeneuve, who each have 16 points in their last ten to lead the team in scoring.

Newcomer Artem Gonchar – the nephew of Sergei Gonchar – has also gained confidence with 12 points in his last ten. Other than these three picking up the pace, there is not a whole lot of scoring support from the bottom-six.

Sudbury’s defense has not helped much either as they continue to be dead last in the league for goals against. They have used four different goalies this year, including Finn Marshall who recently went to the BCHL, but will stick to Owen Leonard and Karsen Chartier as a tandem.

The Wolves – like Oshawa – are a fairly young team that miss some defensive assignments and do not get a lot of saves from their goaltending. They have at least been playing with more confidence as of late, but growing pains like these are sure to emerge.

MIDWEST DIVISION

GUELPH STORM

Their defensive situation still might not be pretty, but Guelph’s offense has become very interesting as they have jumped up to the sixth best goal-scoring team. This has been without Jett Luchanko, who was traded to Brantford eleven games after returning from the NHL.

Instead, it has been the veterans Ethan Miedema and Charlie Paquette being two of many contributors to the Storm’s offensive attack, combining for 23 points in each of their last ten. Leo Serlin, Alex McLean and Will McFadden have also gotten streaks going to reach the 20 point-mark.

Guelph has turned into a deep team over the last month or so, with eleven of their fifteen forwards up to fifteen or more points. They will hope for more consistency on the other side of the puck to help gain more traction, but it appears Zachary Jovanovski has won the starter’s job for the time being after putting up a .917 SV% in his last four starts.

While the Storm hope their retool will remain positive like things have been lately, the organization had the honor of being named hosts of the 2027 Memorial Cup not too long ago, a massive jolt for their championship ambitions in the near future as they ensure an automatic bye into the tournament.

WEST DIVISION

SARNIA STING

Things seemed to be looking up for the Sting when Alessandro Di lorio returned from injury a month ago, but the offense has only seemed to dry up since the start of November – including Di lorio himself with only three points in ten games since his first appearance of the season.

On top of only scoring just 14 times in eight games, Sarnia’s defensive side has continued to regress – now bottom three in the league for goals against. They have not gotten timely saves for their goaltending, and they seem to struggle covering up in their own zone.

With the season nearing the halfway point, the Sting’s skid has brought them to the bottom of the Western Conference by a six-point margin. There might still be time to salvage something as their retool continues, but a lot of things will need to go right.

GAME DAY PREVIEW

The Oshawa Generals are back at the TCC after three stops on the road for a set of weekend games against a couple of East Division rivals.

First on the docket are the high-flying Ottawa 67’s, who are rolling lately with eight wins in their last ten. That includes a recent victory over the Generals back in the nation’s capital on November 28th thanks to a last-minute winner from Shaan Kingwell.

Ottawa has gotten great depth scoring from both their forwards and defenders as well as strong goaltending from both Ryder Fetterolf and Jaeden Nelson all season. In hopes of continuing their surge, Ottawa made a move last week to bring in Sam McCue from Brantford to add to their depth.

As for the Generals, they come in after a disappointing result on the road against the Kingston Frontenacs Wednesday night. While Oshawa has been playing more well-rounded hockey lately, some of their results have not showed on the scoreboard in some lobsided contests.

The Gens will go for a better result tonight against the second-best team in their division. Both sides have played tight hockey against one another in their first two matchups, but the 67’s controlled each of them limiting Oshawa to just one goal in those two contests.

Up to seven points in his last five games, Harrison Franssen has found a groove offensively and the Generals will hope he continues his hot stretch. Franssen, in his second full season with Oshawa, has proven to be a flexible two-way forward who has had an impact on the Gens’ special teams as both a reliable penalty killer and a net-front presence on the power play.

For the 67’s, be on the lookout for over-ager Cooper Foster. Coming in leading his team in scoring, which includes 15 points in his last ten, Foster has further showcased what has made him a crafty playmaker over the last four seasons. Scanning the ice and drawing attention to himself to allow open space is how he creates his offense.

Action gets rolling at 7:05 pm. Watch on Rogers TV and FloHockey or listen on the Oshawa Generals Radio.

LAST GAME RECAP

DECEMBER 10TH, 2025

The Oshawa Generals hoped to pick up their first win of the season against the Kingston Frontenacs, but were handed a 7-3 defeat by them to close out their three-game road swing.

Both teams exchanged chances end-to-end early on, but the Frontenacs would open the scoring thanks to Maleek McGowan tapping home a Jacob Battaglia pass wide open on the back door. It was McGowan’s second goal of the season against Oshawa.

After allowing the opening goal, the Generals came right back with an equalizer from Porter Byrd-Leitner, who made an early statement drawing back into the lineup by netting his first OHL goal on the doorstep off a neat centring pass from Luke Posthumus.

Kingston would go back in front late in the first after Tomas Pobezal hooked up with Andrew Kuzma on a give-and-go and Kuzma just got it over Jaden Cholette’s right-handed catching glove from the far circle to send the Frontenacs to the locker room with a 2-1 lead.

The Generals recorded five more shots than Kingston in the first but started the second with a lot of time spent in their own zone. The Frontenacs would eventually capitalize past the halfway mark with Robin Kuzma snapping one over Cholette’s blocker from the slot.

A few minutes later, Landon Wright added another one for Kingston as he wristed one from the slot to the blocker side past both Cholette and the bodies in front of him. Two second period goals gave the Frontenacs a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Oshawa put up 19 shots through the first two periods, but Matthew Minchak stood tall stopping 18 of them to limit the Generals to one goal heading into the final period.

The Generals began the third with over a minute of power play time, but it only took five seconds to convert with Posthumus stealing the puck off the centre ice faceoff and tucked it under Minchak’s blocker on a partial breakaway.

Unfortunately for Oshawa, their momentum would be short lived as the Frontenacs responded just a minute later to go back up by three with Andre Mondoux firing it from the point and past a screened Cholette.

Kingston would end up running away with it as Battaglia would add his fourth point of the night on a breakaway and Robin Kuzma cashed in his second tally of the game with a tap-in from just outside the crease.

Aiden O’Donnell would add one late with a nice move to his backhand on a breakaway, but it would not be enough to overcome what was Oshawa’s fourth straight loss to Kingston in the season series.

Besides Porter Byrd-Leitner’s two-point night, including his first OHL tally, Luke Posthumus now getting up to seven points in his last four games and the special teams being affective, there was not a lot for Oshawa to be happy about five-on-five.

The Generals face Kingston again on home ice this Sunday in hopes of getting vengeance against them, but will first host the Ottawa 67’s Friday night in what will be their third meeting of the season.
