Great insurance starts with a great agent

A MESSAGE TO YOU

I want to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the 2025-26 Oshawa Generals OHL season. As always not only a welcome to the legions of returning fans, but for all of the new fans as well. Welcome to Gens Nation!!!

The large number of players that you will be seeing on the ice this season will be coming off back to back OHL championship finals appearances. A great accomplishment but we all know we fell short of our ultimate goal of winning the Robertson trophy and going to the Memorial Cup. The real success of this years team is to return to that level. Three years ago we finished in eighth place followed by a first place and fourth place regular season finishes respectively. The first-place finish and back-to-back finals appearances were the result of the building blocks being put in place seasons before and the team growing up together. Winning doesn’t happen by accident, and it must be done by doing things the right way.

The men in charge of that will be led by Mario Pouliot and his winning pedigree in junior hockey. Mario will push these players to places they may not have been before but trusting a coach that has won two Memorial Cups the reboot should move quickly. Mike Farrugia will be in his third season behind the bench, and they will be joined by newcomer Derrick Walser who most recently coached in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels. Derrick was part of the Peterborough Pete’s coaching staff that won the OHL championship and competed in the Memorial Cup in 2023.

The hockey landscape as we know it, is changing and the people to benefit the most will be you the fans and the players. Fans will get to see young players live that they may never have been able to see before. Players with NCAA commits that may have played in other leagues to preserve their eligibility are free to explore the OHL now before going to school. Players will have the opportunity to extend their playing careers and get the best of both worlds. I suspect by the end of this upcoming season we may have half of our players with NCAA commits. However, make no mistake the OHL/CHL will remain the industry leader in producing NHL draft picks. Look no further then our own Simon Wang and Owen Griffin who had their names called for the San Jose Sharks and the Columbus Blue Jackets respectively this past June in LA.

Now you must play your part and fill this building every night. Give these guys true home ice advantage and push them to be there best night in and night out. Go Gens Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As we prepare to embark on our 88th year, we’re energized by what the future holds. While much has changed over the years, our expectations remain the same: to ice a competitive team with our sights set on returning to the finals. This year’s roster will feature an exciting blend of new talent and veteran leadership—a dynamic mix of size, skill, and relentless compete.

We can’t wait to welcome our loyal fans back to the rink and feel your support in the stands.

Starting in the new year, fans will begin to see major renovations take shape at the arena—a place the Generals have proudly called home for decades, and will continue to for years to come. These enhancements will honor our deep-rooted history while ushering in a new era of excellence, elevating the game-day experience for players and fans alike. From improved facilities to refreshed fan spaces, the upgrades will reflect the pride and spirit of the Oshawa community. This investment not only reinforces our commitment to the organization but celebrates the city we represent—with full completion slated for late 2027.

AROUND THE OHL

AS OF NOVEMBER 19TH

EAST DIVISION

OTTAWA 67 ' s

After a subpar start, the 67s have found themselves top three in the Eastern Conference as everything has seemed to be clicking from offense to defense. They have proven to be affective on both sides of the puck in this recent stretch thanks to many key contributors.

The goaltending continues to be Ottawa’s greatest strength, but Ryder Fetterolf has emerged as a quality netminder in his first year with the club, posting a .926 Save Percentage and a league-leading 1.90 Goals Against Average. The future Penn State commit has recorded a whopping .940 SV% in his last six starts, including a shutout victory over the Generals not too long ago.

Offensively, the 67’s have picked things back up thanks in part to Jasper Kuhta getting red hot, with ten points in his last five games. Hurricanes’ prospect Filip Ekberg has been on a role since returning to the OHL with 14 points in as many contests while the likes of Nic Whitehead and Cooper Foster have provided excellent scoring depth.

With eleven skaters up to ten or more points, Kohyn Eshkawkogan emerging as a solid offensive defenseman and both Fetterolf and Jaeden Nelson standing strong in the net, Ottawa has gotten its groove back from the start of the season. The Gens will see their division rivals a week from now in the nation’s capital for their second of eight meetings on the year.

CENTRAL DIVISION

NORTH BAY BATTALION

North Bay’s main strength has been their ‘next man up’ mentality, not just for their style of play but for chipping in offensively. All 12 of their regular forwards are up to eight points or higher and have them top ten in the goal department.

Aside from their deep depth chart, the Battalion’s leading scorers so far are two of their former import selections: Ihnat Pazii of Ukraine and Evgeny Dubrovtsev from Russia, who have proven to be two excellent playmakers.

The net minding has also helped North Bay to this point, not from the usual suspect in Michael McIvor, but from his tandem partner Jack Lisson, a former 15th round choice of the club who owns a 2.28 GAA, the seventh best among all active OHL goaltenders.

Hoping to pick up strids in their rebuild, the Battalion have certainly started the year on a positive note and are not too far back from the lead in their division. The Generals will welcome North Bay into Oshawa this weekend for their second of four matchups on the season.

MIDWEST DIVISION

LONDON KNIGHTS

With seven wins in their last ten, London has taken over the Midwest Division lead 21 games in. Like the past couple of seasons, they have proven to be affective on both sides of the puck under the leadership of Dale Hunter as well as some remaining players from their winning teams.

This especially includes the defensive front, where the Knights have started as the second-best defensive team and have the top penalty kill in the league. Both goalies Aleksei Medvedev and Sebastian Gatto have put up solid stats between the pipes, but once again, London’s defensive style of play continues to translate well into the new year.

The offense has not been as explosive as seasons past, but with Sam O’Reilly and Evan Van Gorp back into the fold, there is still enough to get the job done. Veteran defenders Henry Brzustewicz and Jared Woolley have chipped in as well, but Jaxon Cover, Ben Wilmott and Braidy Wassilyn have combined for 46 points in their first years with the club.

Just when OHL fans thought the Memorial Cup champions might take a step back, it appears the Knights are sticking around for another go. Things look to be tight in their division with Owen Sound and Kitchener right behind them, but London has come through in tough situations like these before.

WEST DIVISION

SAGINAW SPIRIT

Saginaw is a tough team to gage at. On one hand, they are top ten in the scoring department, led by Nikita Klepov, who is top-three in points, and Egor Barabanov in their first seasons with the club. They also have some veterans from their Memorial Cup team still making an impact.

On the other hand, what is holding the Spirit back is their defense, which has allowed the most goals in the OHL at 94 up to date. The goaltending, led by Stepan Shurygin, has not quite been where the club hoped it would be and the special teams have also not helped as much.

While Saginaw has brought on younger talents over the years, some of them, like Ryan Hanrahan, have struggled out of the gate, but rookie defender Levi Harper and sophomore Dimian Zhilkin are off to excellent starts, combining for 43 points.

Regardless of the start, this is only the beginning of the Spirits’ slight retool after Michael Misa and Zane Parekh moved on to the NHL. Just 22 games in, there is still time for the defensive side to build.

GAME DAY PREVIEW

The Oshawa Generals play the first of two games at the TCC this weekend, beginning with the North Bay Battalion coming to town for the second of four meetings this year between the two clubs.

These two kicked off the season against one another in North Bay, where Oshawa fell 4-2 to the Battalion. Jaden Cholette made 30 saves in what was his OHL debut, but the Generals could not get much offense going despite Vadim Smirnov and Sam Roberts scoring their first goals.

The Gens have continued to look for more offensive consistency since the season opener but are coming off a big win last week against the Erie Otters. They hope to bring positive energy into tonight’s contest in search of their second straight victory.

North Bay on the other hand is excelling in their rebuild and have taken four of their last five to move into second in the Central Division. The Battalion have built a solid team all around with contributions up and down the lineup accompanied by solid goaltending.

Oshawa may be coming in as the fresher team with the Battalion coming off their own big win against London last night, but North Bay has had their number for the past few years, winning nine of the last 13 matchups between the two, including four of their last six visits to the TCC.

The Generals continue to monitor Brooks Rogowski’s health but have plenty of options to accommodate down the middle. Outside of offense, they will look to match up against their opponents both defensively and in the crease in what is expected to be a goaltending duel.

Jaden Cholette projects to start after his first OHL shutout last Sunday. The first-year netminder has had his work cut out for him, facing the third-most shots amongst goalies in the league, but does an excellent job of tracking pucks through traffic and working for his saves.

Fourth-year veteran Mike McIvor is expected to get the crease for the Battalion. The Warkworth, ON, native might not be putting up the same stats as last season, but his patience and vision that allows him to follow the puck allows North Bay to have plenty of trust in him.

The puck drops at 7:05 pm.

LAST GAME RECAP

NOVEMBER 16TH, 2025

The Oshawa Generals got back in the win column Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over the Erie Otters in their Toy Story-themed game.

In a contest where both teams were in search of much-needed victories, the Generals came out flying with a fast-paced start. However, despite dominating most of the opening period and getting two early power plays, Oshawa was unable to capitalize.

This game would go to the second period scoreless, and the two teams went back-and-forth attempting to get the opening goal. Oshawa would come up with two key penalty kills thanks to some more excellent saves from Jaden Cholette.

After getting plenty of good looks in the second, the Generals finally broke through within the final five minutes of the period thanks to Harrison Franssen, who cut in from the near side, drove the net and jammed it through Noah Erliden.

Franssen’s seventh goal on the year gave Oshawa the all-important first goal and only tally of the night. The Gens would take a long five-minute man-advantage into the final period holding the lead.

Oshawa would not get one on the major penalty, nor would they on a separate power play to follow up. As the final 20 minutes went by, the Generals would continue to pile up shots while protecting their slim one-goal advantage.

Down to the final moments, the Otters made their push to try and get the game tied, but terrific defending from the Gens thwarted their efforts. Making 27 saves on the afternoon, Jaden Cholette earned his first shutout in the OHL.

On the back of a terrific effort, Oshawa earned a hard-fought victory to snap their eight-game winless streak, forechecking constantly throughout the contest and generating many chances.

The Gens finished with 39 shots directed at Noah Erliden, who was outstanding in his own right, but Jaden Cholette and the defensive play was the difference this afternoon.

Hoping to keep the positive momentum going, Oshawa will remain home at the TCC for their next two contests: Friday, November 21st against the North Bay Battalion and Sunday the 23rd against the Kitchener Rangers.

GENERALS SEASON PREVIEW

NEW ADDITIONS, RETURNING

FACES, TEAM OVERVIEW

A new OHL season is here, and the Oshawa Generals gear up for another year of competitive, tough-nosed, memorable and fun hockey.

Oshawa enters the 2025/26 campaign as the back-to-back defending Eastern Conference champions and look to avenge consecutive OHL Finals losses to the London Knights. However, with such a top-heavy conference, the goal is much easier said than done.

As well, with Jacob Oster, Luca D’Amato and Luke Torrance graduating last year, there will be some holes to fill throughout the roster from either new or returning players.

With that, here is an overview of what your Oshawa Generals will look like this season:

New Acquisitions

Despite a quiet off-season on the trade front, the Generals focused on improving the roster through the OHL Priority Selection, the CHL Import Draft and free agent signings.

In the OHL Priority Selection, Oshawa drafted 14 new players, three of which stood out in preseason and made the roster: winger Sam Roberts and defencemen Anthony Timmerman and Leo Laschon. Finnish winger Onni Kalto and Russian winger Vadim Smirnov have also made the roster after being selected in the CHL Import Draft.

Roberts, the 16th overall selection from the Toronto Jr. Canadiens in April, brings a similar, hard-nosed style game as his father, Gary. Timmerman, out of Rochester, MI, and Laschon from Pittsburgh, PA, also bring valuable depth to the Generals’ blue line. Kalto’s size and Smirnov’s skill should contribute nicely to Oshawa’s scoring depth as well.

Along with their recent draft selections, Oshawa also signed a wide variety of players to accompany team depth. Rowan Sang out of Kimball Union Academy and Porter Byrd-Leitner out of the Alberta Junior Hockey League were both signed just before preseason. Byrd-Leitner’s skill and talent along with Sang’s strong skating abilities make both left wingers well suited for the Generals’ forward core.

Also signed as FAs include Generals’ draft picks from years past in wingers Luke Posthumus and Jalen Lobo, as well as centreman Ben Cormier, who brings three seasons of OHL experience from Owen Sound. Other signings to bolster the roster include forwards Lucas Teixeira and Brennan Huyck, as well as defenders Brady Murnane and Colin Feeley.

The only trades the Generals did make this off-season were for goaltenders Reid Thomas, acquired from Sault Ste Marie, and Jaden Cholette from London. Oshawa will look to Cholette to share the net throughout the season.

Returning Players

The Generals have many players eligible to return: Beckett Sennecke, Ben Danford, Owen Griffin, Simon Wang and Zack Sandhu to name a few. However, all five are expected to be out of action to start the season as they attend NHL training camps.

That is not to say Oshawa will be without experience as team veterans Ethan Toms and Harrison Franssen are back. Right wingers Brooks Rogowski and Tyler O’Toole are also entering their second seasons with the team. Each return with their tenacious and determined style of play that fans are familiar with.

After spending some time with the Generals last season, winger Anthony Figliomeni and defender Brady Blaseg will see more playing time this year. Figliomeni dressed for 15 games in 2024/25, tallying four points (2G, 2A) while Blaseg put up 2 points in his 9 games played.

Netminder Isaac Gravelle also returns for his second season. After 14 starts and a 9-3-1-1 record last year, the Fenwick, ON native will be put to the test in goal for 2025/26, sharing the crease with newcomer Cholette for the time being.

Team Overview

Despite missing some of their high-end players to start the season, the Generals should have no problem filling their voids with the amount of depth throughout the lineup from old and new faces.

There will also be a new bench boss to guide them in Mario Pouliot, who brings valuable experience to the table with back-to-back Memorial Cups with the Acadie-Bathrust Titan and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL as their head coach. This is, however, the last eligible year for Sandhu and Posthumus to play in the league, and team veterans like Sennecke, Danford, Franssen and Toms each have one more year before their overage seasons.

On top of that, the Eastern Conference is expected to be very competitive once again with teams like Brantford and Kingston looking to make statements. Odds aside, Oshawa went 20-7-3-2 against divisional opponents last season and 26-17-3-2 against their conference entirely.

Even with a slight retool featuring a hard-working and determined group, the Generals will play hard and fight for another playoff appearance this year. Oshawa has made the OHL Playoffs in the last 13 seasons.

Canadian Tire, Rodman’s Heating and Air Conditioning, Desjardins Insurance, Planet Fitness, Dodd and Soutor, Pizza Pizza, Bluebird Self Storage, and Professional Dry Cleaners have teamed up for the Adopt-A-School program!

This program gives local businesses the chance to give back to the community by purchasing Generals season tickets and donating them to elementary schools throughout Durham Region. The tickets are intended to reward students that excel in academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities.
