The Power Boat Report
Season Summary
Steve Hayward
Summer has come and gone and whilst there has been plenty of Boating taking Place in the section a few of the recent events planned have had to be canceled due to high winds and swell. A recently planned trip to Garden Island being one of them.
There have been several recent Raft Up’s and overnight stays that have taken place in the safe calm waters of the new marina, these were all arranged at short notice once the upcoming weather was more predictable.
General Business
The recent numbers attending the monthly Dineins has also been down, this being mostly due to the recent COVID outbreak.

Jurien Bay ANZAC Weekend 23 - 25 April 2022
As the weekend approached the weather was looking great for a change, pretty much light Easterly’s all weekend, we had a total of 14 section members attending 8 of which had rented a house in Jurien Bay the rest were either in caravans or cabins at the local caravan park.
Saturday Morning, everyone met at the Jurien Bay Boat ramp @ 10.30am after making the 2hr trip north on either Sat or Fri, we launched the 4 boats and everyone got abord on one boat or another, Ron our tourist information centre lead the way out of the Harbour and north along the coast stopping at North Head and telling tail along the way of giant Dhufish that were caught just off the shore, the plan had been to drop anchor and walk up top the head but with the brisk wind blowing it was decided best not to leave the boats unattended, we did an about turn and had a great run back down the bay having a close look at favourite Island as we screamed past, we were then carefully guided into another small bay that was

pretty much fully out of the wind, everyone beach moored and went ashore, it was a lovey white sandy beach with beautiful clear blue water, most had some lunch here before heading out onto the reef to look for Skippy, to my knowledge no-one actually caught one but we had a lot of fun trying, John on Reel Naughty was after squid, so with no skippy about we decided to give him a hand, total score, Ron’s boat 5, John’s boat 5, Steve’s boat 2.
Saturday evening everyone was invited back to the house for a section Bar B Q in the back garden that turned into more storytelling from Ron, as the Vino flowed the tails got longer and more imaginative, by the end of the night Ron was left still drinking and by that time telling the stories only to Dorra who had probably heard them 10 times before!
Sunday morning the fisherman amongst the party headed out into the deep sea (15miles and 65m deep), John and Graham had the best luck with John bagging a nice 780 long Dhufish and a couple of Black arse, Graham also caught the biggest Cuttlefish you ever did see. The rest of the party either went 4X4ing on the beach or took a trip to the local motorcycle Museum, Peter and Ross visited the Panicles in the local national park.
Sunday evening everyone met in the local pub (the Sand Piper) and sat down to a nice meal and a chat, John was still beaming from ear to ear about his well-deserved catch of the day!
Monday morning after a slow start and a house clean up everyone departed for home, everyone who attended agreed it was a fantastic weekend made even better by the great weather and company, I think this may well become an annual trip.
