April Beach Competition

April beach comp offered up some half decent weather, apart from the Friday, where the rain and wind reminded us that winter is only around the corner! The weed was pretty thick all along the coast, making the anglers search far and wide to find some clean water.

Crew was the only junior to fish and got himself a Herring which made the 3am start with dad a little more worthwhile. He really tried to get a secondary fish, thinking the one wouldn't be enough to win, but it was! Well done Crew. In the Vets, Mick Lock won with ANOTHER impressive bag of 6 species. Locky had a tailor at just over a kilo, a Tarwhine of 400g and a Skippy of 450g. In the ladies, Sue won with 4 species including a Dart of 341g, a Tarwhine of 400g and a total score of 64 points. Maree got second place with 2 species both heaviest including a herring of 270g and a wrasse of 207g.

In the mens, it ended up being a very close finish, with Mark Purchas coming third with 4 species (3 of which were heaviest, including a nice skippy of 544g) and a total score of 64 points. In second place was John Lebeter with a score of 79 points and the fish of the day with a lovely 4.23kg Pink Snapper, Yum!

UPCOMING EVENTS

Our next beach competition will be held on the 22nd / 23rd of May.

Narrowly beating John was Ricko, with 83 points. Both Ricko & John having 5 species and John having an extra 3.5kgs to his bag, It come down to Ricko having 5 species ALL heaviest! What a way to get the victory! Ricko had a flathead of 495g, a Tailor or 333g and a Tarwhine of 410g.

We finished the weekend with an interesting weigh in with the storm clouds fast approaching two thirds of the way through. Kiwi, Colsey, Daniel bell & myself had to put our skates on and finish the weigh in whilst getting absolutely soaked and blown away. We got the job done though, finishing another successful beach comp weekend.

Hopefully the next comp we have some more of the new members continue to come down.

Cheers,
