2024 JEVS Annual Report: "Paths to Independence"

Page 1

Letter from Cynthia & Laurie

Dear Friend,

We are proud to present our Fiscal Year 2024 Annual Report, titled “Paths to Independence.” Through education, employment, and personalized care, we help people build the emotional, physical, and financial stability to achieve and sustain independence.

We’ve jumpstarted our 2025-2027 Strategic Plan which prioritizes growing healthcare services and programs for youth and young adults. We’re well on our way, with 8,000 youth and young adults served by JEVS through C2L-PHL, Philadelphia’s Career Connected Learning initiative. In healthcare, we’ve expanded our programs at Orleans Technical College with certifications in Clinical Medical Assistance and Practical Nursing.

Services to older adults and adults with disabilities continue to support personal independence. JEVS Care at Home (JCAH) earned three Best of Home Care awards this year. JCAH’s value-based home care, for older adults and individuals with disabilities, allows them to age at home with dignity and maintain control over their lives.

We also expanded our annual fundraiser, Grow with JEVS, and strengthened our partnerships with local and state governments. These efforts help us continue creating new paths to independence for those we serve.

We are grateful for the continued support of our sponsors, the dedication of our staff, and, most importantly, the trust placed in us by the individuals in our programs. We invite you to explore our annual report to see the impact we are making in the community. Your support is essential as we work together to open more paths that foster independence for thousands of individuals each year.

Thank you for being a part of the JEVS Human Services community and for your commitment to building a future where each person achieves personal independence and fulfillment.

In service,

Mission Vision

JEVS Human Services works with individuals to create sustainable paths to independence and economic security.

Every person achieves personal independence and fulfillment.

Paths to Independence 2024

Annual Report

Services that reach every age group, race, gender, and community in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.

JEVS Human Services promotes independence with resources and services that support individuals in achieving their goals. We offer programs for youth, older adults, unemployed and underemployed adults, refugees, individuals affected by the legal system, people with disabilities, and those with behavioral health needs.

What’s inside:

Overcoming barriers to Financial Independence

JEVS helps individuals gain the skills necessary to secure and sustain meaningful employment, increasing their financial independence.

Education leading to Career Independence

Through JEVS’ Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, youth and young adults can build viable career paths.

Fulfillment through Personal Independence

JEVS’ programs support clients in gaining the freedom to make choices, manage responsibilities, and actively participate in personal decisions.

Key Achievements

Expanding Career Connected Learning in Philadelphia (C2LPHL) opportunities for youth and young adults

JEVS’ C2L-PHL program supported Philadelphia youth with paid work-based learning experiences. Youth and young adults ages 12–24 develop the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed for future career and economic success. JEVS worked with over 40 providers who supported youth at nearly 500 sites.

A letter from Amiya

$7.6M

back into the economy through payments to youth and young adults

Amiya attended the middle school program operated by CORA Services, a C2L-PHL provider.

“All the teachers, site directors and students have helped me come out of my shell. They have all helped me learn and experience new things, they’ve helped me grow as a person and helped me explore what I want to be in life. I have seen and heard about many professions, so I know when I grow up, I would like to work in the medical field as a nurse or doctor working with kids. I would like to thank everybody at the C2L-PHL program for my experiences and all the help they gave me.

I take pride that I worked this summer and was able to not only earn money but understand the importance of saving. I would like to say thank you for everything, and I hope the program continues so other kids get to experience it!”

JEVS is one of four nonprofits internationally to receive a ServiceNow grant

JEVS was named ServiceNow’s Partnership for Good Grant Recipient. This grant supports the customer service process, enabling the organization to expand access to education and technology for clients, and ultimately serve more individuals in need.

Paths to Financial Independence

Many people face barriers to financial stability, such as career transitions, the need for skills training, aging, involvement with the legal system, or belonging to historically underserved communities. By accessing workforce development and educational training, participants gain pathways to careers and opportunities that foster economic security.

Connecting individuals with career pathways that provide life-sustaining wages for themselves and their families.

From client to Clinical Services Supervisor

Revena first came to JEVS in 2007 as a client in the JEVS Work Ready program. With support from Work Ready, she found a job. Revena went to college and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

“We all have struggles. JEVS will give you the tools and the resources to better your life.”

In 2022, she became a JEVS employee and was soon promoted to Clinical Services Supervisor, helping others achieve their goals.

Diversion and Re-entry Services

It is hard for people who have been involved with the legal system to become independent. When people are given the chance at education, work, and housing, they are better able to support themselves and their families.

people supported through diversion services in 2024

JEVS’ re-entry services work with individuals aged 18-29 as they transition back into their communities. Through personalized case management, job readiness training, and cognitive behavioral interventions, participants receive the tools and support to navigate reintegration and gain stability.

Refugees & Asylees

Learning English, getting a job, and finding a new path.

When Marie arrived in the U.S. from Haiti, she spoke very little English. The JEVS team supported her efforts to learn the language and secure employment. They saw that Marie worked hard and was always on time. After continuing her job coaching through JEVS, she was hired for a full-time position close to her new home.

Support is key to achieving stability and independence. Our vision is that each person achieves fulfillment and economic security.

Paths to Career Independence

JEVS offers diverse Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs for people to get skills training and become certified for careers in building trades, healthcare, and IT.

Jumpstarting and expanding careers

Orleans Technical College (OTC) provides career-focused training in healthcare, building trades, and information technology. Offering five building trades programs and expanded healthcare training for Practical Nursing (PN) and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), students gain classroom, lab, and clinical experiences in a state-ofthe-art facility.

Launching new healthcare programs and securing employer partners

Orleans Technical College connects students to viable career opportunities and economic mobility. Employer partners include Fox Subacute, Holy Redeemer, Jefferson Health, Oakwood Nursing, Public Health Management Corporation, and SageLife.

Partnering with Orleans Technical College is critical for Jefferson as we work to build talent pipelines for care teams of tomorrow and healthcare overall. Through this new practical nursing program, we know individuals will receive a quality education, hands-on experience, and realworld training through clinical rotations and externships at Jefferson, leading to employment.

Career training

When Francheska and Chasidy came to JEVS, they needed support to get their high school diplomas. At the same time, they trained in property maintenance and repair. After graduating from high school, they decided to enroll in the Clinical Medical Assistant program at Orleans Technical College.

“JEVS’ programs make you want to work harder for yourself.”

Now Francheska has an externship at Penn Medicine. Chasidy is doing her externship at Temple Health. Both are gaining valuable healthcare training and experience for future employment.

Growing an alumni network

OTC’s Alumni Connections Newsletter allows graduates like Daniel, employed by Horizon Services, to stay involved with the college, other alumni, and the local community. An Army Veteran, he used his G.I. Bill to attend OTC and start on his new career path.

The newsletter provides alumni with ongoing opportunities to network and access resources that support their professional and personal growth. It also highlights ways for alumni to give back, fostering community and mentorship among graduates.

Paths to Personal Independence

Building personal independence requires supportive environments that help people make their own choices. Through community living and home support programs, JEVS helps people with disabilities and those with mental health needs by providing social, emotional, and job support.

Providing whole life support for individuals with disabilities

JEVS’ dedicated staff make a big difference. Our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) provides whole life support for people with disabilities so they can be active in their communities, find jobs, and live fulfilling lives.

DSPs at JEVS help people gain independence, teaching them skills to make choices and live on their own. They are there 24/7 to support individuals, making sure they feel safe and respected while maintaining their independence.

From experiencing instability to having a home of her own

Quaadirah lived in foster homes and “couch-surfed” through high school. When she turned 21, she aged out of the system. The JEVS team saw how determined she was to become independent and helped her apply for JEVS’ services.

Quaadirah was finally able to get her own apartment. She was happy to have her own clean and quiet space and furniture, like a bed with a frame and a headboard. Her new home gives her the stability she needs to continue learning and becoming more self-sufficient.

You’re making a difference in somebody’s life.

Watch the DSP Video and learn about JEVS’ impact.

Connor’s path to employment was not always easy or encouraging. Connor remembers some job interviews where he talked about his disability and never heard back from them afterward.

“I had started to feel lost, but now I feel like I’ve found my way with the help, encouragement, and motivation I get from my friends, family, and JEVS staff.”

With support from his JEVS team, he feels accepted and supported. He credits both his family and JEVS staff with helping him find jobs, organize paperwork, and complete other job onboarding requirements. At work, he is a valued contributor and popular coworker.

Every day I’m determined to come to work to make a difference for my clients.

Anitra DSP, since 2022

Volunteers helping participants by holding mock interviews

One example of the tremendous impact of volunteers is mock interviews, which allow participants to hone their interview skills and build confidence. This opportunity also connects them with industry experts and helps them take a significant step toward launching their careers.

Through these volunteer efforts, our IT Pre-apprenticeship, HVAC, and other students can prepare for their job searches by participating in mock interviews with professionals currently working in their fields. They also have the chance to visit work sites, gaining a real-world perspective on their chosen careers.
