On Sunday, September 18th, 2022 we held our second annual Run the Lake 5K. Periodic misting rain showers didn’t scare away the 90+ participants and their accompanying families. Partici pants ranged from 7 years old to 70 years old and included a mix of runners and walkers. Milford based Rotpac Racing officially timed the event and had the start/finish line looking like the Bos ton Marathon. The course featured two laps around the property, starting in the picnic grove. From there, runners and walkers headed to West Shore Drive and then onto the cart path out to hole 16, before returning to West Shore. They continued along the driving range and returned to the club grounds, winding their way between the clubhouse and pool.
Craig Doescher was the event winner, running a time of 20:23, which averages out to 6:34 per mile. Craig was back and forth with Brent Watton until finally pulling away to cross the finish line first, winning by four tenths of a second. 2021 winner, Ian Slaven was third (22:02), Jeff Risius was fourth (23:01) and Michael Smith was fifth (23:09).
The lady’s race, unofficially, featured two winners. Rachel Leith was the first woman to cross the finish line with a time of 25:37
(8:15/mile). Waiting with their daughter on the sidelines, Kim berly Slaven began her run after Ian finished. Kimberly ended up finishing with the fastest time in 24:58 (8:02/mile). Lauren Anderson was third (27:16), Carly McPhail was fourth (28:06) and Brianna Giudici was fifth (29:18).
After the run, the culinary team provided a decadent breakfast buffet of bacon, sausage and pancakes with endless toppings which included everything from whip cream and fruit to nuts and chocolates. All participants received long-sleeve performance shirts and finisher’s medals, both of which included the OLCC cupola logo. The top three men and women received trophy travel mugs.
The third annual Run the Lake 5K will take place in September of 2023 with the official date to be announced soon. With the success of the first two years, next years event will be even bigger. We’ve already confirmed their will be a separate kids run, more swag and more fun!
The OLCC Fitness Center is open all year. With the changing weather, now is the time to get in the gym and begin a new fitness program. We had a beautiful summer on the tennis courts and the golf course, but we have entered the “off season”. Most of us work all year to improve our games, even the recreational player wants to be a little better. Time on the courts or time on the driving range doesn’t always correlate to improved play. We must train our bodies, not just our skills. Whether it be golf, or tennis, having a stronger foundation, more stability, greater ranges of motion and more endurance will help us perform at a higher level.
Tom Kruszewski Fitness DirectorTom and Kristina are available for personal training throughout the winter. New clients can reserve a 3 Session Kickstart training package for $250.
Greetings!
It’s been another wonderful fall season and we hope you’ve enjoyed some of the best golf conditions the year has had to offer. September felt like an extension of August, and though October brought with it the occasional cold and rain, we’ve had several idyllic days for fall golf.
We’ve now reached that point on the calendar where golf takes a turn – many are already or soon will be heading south for the winter, and others are planning their occasional winter retreats to get away from the snow and cold.
Sleeman PGA Head ProfessionalThis will also be the second full winter season for our popular golf simulators in the Lakehouse, and we hope to continue to enjoy your company there. If you have not yet seen it, our golf course has been faithfully recreated in digital form and is a joy to play even in virtual mode. The weather is always perfect in the simulators and we’re looking forward to offering some new programming to keep you engaged with your golf swing and one another as we move through the winter months.
We’ll of course also be manning the golf shop for plenty of holiday retail oppor tunities. Stay tuned for more information on our holiday sales program, and as a reminder, all golf shop credit must be used before the end of the calendar year, as it all expires on 12/31. In addition to our sales schedule, we’ve also got plenty of new gear, apparel, and accessories arriving in the winter months. Keep an eye on our Instagram feed for the latest!
Lastly, I’d like to thank everyone for their feedback and insights throughout another busy season. We are working closely with the Golf Committee and Board to revamp the calendar for next year, and everything is on the table as we endeavor to help you make the most of your golf experience with us. We also said goodbye to two wonderful assistants this year as Julian and Caroline embarked on new chap ters in their careers, and the search is underway for their replacements for next year.
On behalf of my entire team, best wishes to you and your families for a wonderful holiday season. We hope to see you around the club over the winter months and are already looking forward to a great 2023!
Brian Sleeman, PGA Head ProfessionalAfter being rained out in 2021, Glow Golf returned with a great turnout despite the cold conditions. Participants enjoyed a lively cocktail hour and dinner before bundling up and heading out onto the golf course, where a six-hole par three course and miniature golf experience awaited. Thank you to those who joined us!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year again Platform Tennis Season. At OLCC we are so lucky to have a new paddle hut with bigger windows more outside viewing and a new fireplace. Along with the paddle hut being updated we also did some court maintenance on court number 4. With over 130+ male members playing on Monday/Wednesday nights we have over 80 ladies playing on Tuesday evenings. It is great to see all the paddle courts in full swing.
tennis players in the country. The tournament will be played over 2 days starting December 10th ant 11th. OLCC will be the main host site with live streaming and live commenter during the tournament. Other local clubs will also be used for the tournament. Here are a few key dates to remember for upcoming Platform tennis events.
Lincoln Wirgau, USPTA Director of RacquetsAs some of you may know Orchard Lake was selected once again to host one of the biggest Platform Tennis Tournaments of the year. It is a great honor to host a Grand Prix event at OLCC. This tournament will bring in the best of the best Female/Male paddle

Coaches Corner- When playing a paddle match and you are the team at the baseline try to make the net team change its targets. When a net team gets into a rhythm during the point and is picking on the weakness try to move sideways after you hit the lob. Let them see you move from one spot to another so they have to change their target spot.
